Hero MotoCorp to launch new scooters this Diwali to boost its market share https://indianautosblog.com/hero-motocorp-new-scooters-diwali-p321511 Thu, 03 Sep 2020 11:15:30 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321511 Hero MotoCorop is one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers in the world. In India, it has a strong dealership and service network which is one of the reasons why it has a good grip even in the rural areas.

While Hero MotoCorp has been performing well in the domestic motorcycle market, its products in the scooter segment have not been very helpful in increasing its market share. Now, to get back in the game and enhance its presence in the domestic scooter segment, Hero MotoCorp will launch new scooters this Diwali.

Hero MotoCorp currently has 4 scooter models on sale in India - Destini 125, Maestro 125, Maestro 110 and Pleasure+. However, they were not sufficient for the company to stay in the 3rd place in the scooter segment in FY20. While Honda was leading in this space thanks to products like the Activa and Dio, and TVS occupying the 2nd position, Suzuki overtook Hero MotoCorp and grabbed the 3rd place.

Speaking to shareholders at the recent annual general meeting, Pawan Munjal, Chairman and Managing Director, Hero MotoCorp, said:

We had, at one point in time, a 19% market share in the scooter segment, where I am sure we will get back and we will also go beyond that. We are focusing on a few models so that the entire investment, entire focus, entire effort goes behind those few models, few segments, to get to a higher market share which we used to have. We have had recent launches in the scooter segment. Going forward, closer to the Diwali season, you will see more launches.

As of now, Hero MotoCorp has not released any concrete information about its upcoming scooter launches. However, it is being speculated that considering the increased demand for 125cc scooters, it is likely that Hero MotoCorp will launch at least one model in this category.

Old Hero Pleasure discontinued 13 years after launch https://indianautosblog.com/old-hero-pleasure-discontinued-p320052 Tue, 17 Mar 2020 11:56:11 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320052 The previous generation Hero Pleasure has been discontinued in the domestic market. It was launched back in 2006.

Hero MotoCorp decided not to convert the Pleasure’s 100 cc engine to comply with the stricter BS-VI emission norms and said goodbye to the 13-year-old scooter.

The first-gen Hero Pleasure became quite a popular scooter soon after it was launched. It featured a handle-mounted headlamp, front apron-mounted large turn signals, smooth and curvy body panels, large comfortable seat, etc. Its fresh design and style attracted a lot of young buyers, especially women.

Powering the Pleasure was a 102 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with an overhead camshaft. It produced around 6.7 BHP of maximum power at 7,000 rpm and around 7.85 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. These figures might not sound much, but back in the day, not many 100 cc scooters were available in the market. The old Hero Pleasure used to compete with two-wheelers like the TVS Scooty Pep, Kinetic Zing and Bajaj Spirit.

During its lifetime, the Hero Pleasure received several updates. In 2014, it got Hero MotoCorp’s Integrated Braking System (IBS) that was similar to Honda’s Combi Brake system. The same year, it received a facelift as well. In 2017, it was updated to comply with the BS-IV emission norms. Hero MotoCorp also added some other features like Auto Headlamp On (AHO), mobile charging socket and boot light. The scooter was also available in a few dual-tone colour options.

Now, Hero MotoCorp has decided not to convert the Pleasure’s 100 cc engine to comply with the stricter BS-VI emission norms and said goodbye to it. The company already has the updated and slightly more powerful Pleasure+ which it had launched in May 2019.

The Hero Pleasure+ is the company’s first scooter to have been upgraded to BS-VI. Its BS-VI 110 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine with ‘XSens Technology’ (Eight Sensors) produces 8 BHP of peak power at 7,000 rpm and 8.7 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm. Hero MotoCorp claims that this engine has 10% improved acceleration and over 10% improved fuel efficiency. The BS-VI Hero Pleasure+ is available at a starting price of INR 54,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

In related news, Hero MotoCorp is developing an eMaestro electric scooter to enter the growing segment of electric two-wheelers. Stay tuned to IndianAutosBlog.com for more Hero MotoCorp news and other two-wheeler updates.

Our scooter strategy is unfolding now with these new models that have an edge over competition, be it in technology or style. The Pleasure brand created the women-dedicated segment long back and the new Pleasure+ 110 broadens its audience to all young customers aspiring for a stylish ride. The Maestro Edge 125 is bringing FI technology to the scooter category in India and sets a new benchmark in the segment. Along with the Destini 125, Hero MotoCorp now a robust portfolio targeting customers of both 125 cc and 110 cc scooter and is geared up to enhance its presence in the segment.

The Pleasure+ uses a 110.9 cc OHC engine that makes 8 bhp of power at 7,500 rpm and 8.70 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Anchoring tasks are performed by 130 mm drum brakes on both wheels as standard. The Pleasure+ is pitched as a budget product, and so, it is unlikely to get a disc brake variant. The safety net includes Hero MotoCorp’s Integrated Braking System as standard. The scooter's instrument console features a backlit speedometer with fuel and side stand indicator. Other highlights include a USB charger and LED boot lamp.

The Hero Pleasure+ is available in two variants and seven colour options. The sheet metal wheel variant can be purchased in Glossy Black, Glossy Blue, Glossy White and Glossy Red. The cast wheel option can be selected in Matt Red, Matt Green and Matt Vernier Grey.

2019 Hero Pleasure Tvc Shoot Left Side
The 2019 Hero Pleasure's design was leaked during a TVC shoot.

The Pleasure was left unattended while Hero MotoCorp focused on expanding its line-up. Finally, next week, the company will give it a full model change that has been a long time coming. The company has remained tight-lipped about the all-new 2019 Pleasure, but in March, a spy shot captured during its TVC shoot finally spilt the beans.

The all-new 2019 Hero Pleasure looks more modern thanks to the new front apron that integrates redesigned direction indicators and the retro-style upright headlamp. The side panel looks sleeker and the brushed silver plastic inserts on them lend the scooter a premium look. At the rear, it is safe to assume that there will be a redesigned tail lamp. A new instrument panel is a given, and it may be a semi-digital unit. Other highlights may include optional alloy wheels, under-seat storage light and USB charging port.

The 2019 Hero Pleasure will most likely be powered by the outgoing model's BS-IV 102 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that delivers 5.15 kW (7.00 PS) of maximum power 7,000 rpm and 8.1 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. Significant enhancements to this engine can be expected along with the BS-VI upgrade by March 2020. The all-new model will feature IBS (Integrated Braking System) which is Hero MotoCorp's branding for combi-braking technology.

The new scooter will be launched in India on May 13, 2019.

Hero Pleasure Front 2019

Using details revealed by the spy shots of the 2019 Hero Pleasure, IAB's digital illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created its rendering. The scooter was spotted in the new avatar during its commercial shoot with its brand ambassador Alia Bhatt.

2019 Hero Pleasure Iab Rendering
The 2019 Hero Pleasure will be the next generation of the company's most affordable scooter.

The Pleasure, the most affordable scooter from Hero MotoCorp, will receive a significant visual upgrade for MY2019 and move to its next generation. It features a boxy headlight design with brushed silver surrounds. A similar brushed silver finish garnishing can also be seen on the apron and on the side panel. The scooter will drop body-coloured treatment for the rear view mirrors and instead feature black finish to the housing. A black pillion grab rail and back panels add a contrast to the visuals.

The internals weren't revealed by the spy shots, although it isn't too much expect a full-LED headlight that is becoming a norm in the class as the market advances. The front fender sports the IBS (Integrated Braking System) logo, which is Hero Motocorp’s tag for the combi-braking system (CBS).

Engine specifications are unlikely to change as the BS-VI deadline is almost a year away. So, expect a 102 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, BS-IV compliant engine on the 2019 Hero Pleasure that will deliver 6.9 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 8.1 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. Braking department will include 130 mm drum brakes on both wheels while the CBS tech will come as standard.

Shock absorption hardware of the all-new model isn’t different from the outgoing model. It uses Bottom Link with Spring-loaded Hydraulic Damper and Unit Swing with Spring-loaded Hydraulic Damper at the front and the rear respectively. Two variants are expected, one with steel wheels and one with alloy wheels. Both Both will use 90/100-10 section tyres.

Upcoming 2019 Hero Pleasure facelift spotted during TVC shoot https://indianautosblog.com/hero-pleasure-facelift-launch-price-p316786 Fri, 22 Mar 2019 08:18:43 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=316786 Hero MotoCorp’s most affordable scooter, the Pleasure, is set to arrive in a new avatar. The bike was spotted with Bollywood actor and brand ambassador, Alia Bhatt, during the television commercial shoot.

2019 Hero Pleasure Tvc Shoot Left Side
The upcoming Hero MotoCorp Pleasure was spotted during the TVC shoot, thus hinting that the launch is not far away. The new model would feature revised styling.

The upcoming Hero Motocorp Pleasure, mounted on a rig, was seen with a massive visual overhaul. The new styling features revised fascia and body panels. However, the hardware specifications aren’t too different from the current model. In terms of styling, the fascia now gets a new headlight design that is accompanied by brushed silver surrounds. The internals aren’t visible in the photographs although it wouldn’t be incorrect to expect a full LED headlight on the upcoming model.

The redesigned apron gets a brushed silver panel that occupies the space between the blinkers. Surprisingly, unlike the outgoing version, the upcoming Hero Pleasure does not get body coloured enclosures for the rear view mirrors.

The body coloured front fender can be seen with the IBS (Integrated Braking System) logo – Hero Motocorp’s tag for combi-braking tech. The side panels also feature the silver garnishing along with the Pleasure branding while a black pillion grab rail and rear panels add a contrast to the visuals.

Mechanical specifications are unlikely to change as the BS-VI norms are almost a year away. Thus, a 102cc single-cylinder air-cooled BS-IV compliant engine that delivers 6.9 bhp of power 7,000 rpm and 8.1 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm would perform propelling tasks. Anchoring tasks would be performed by 130 mm drum brakes on both wheels while the safety net of CBS would come as standard.

Shock absorption hardware would include Bottom Link with Spring-loaded Hydraulic Damper at the front and Unit Swing with Spring-loaded Hydraulic Damper at the back. The base variant would feature steel wheels while the more premium version would ride on alloys. Both options would be shod with 90/100-10 section tyres.

2017 Hero Pleasure front three quarter
The existing model retails for INR 45,100 (steel wheels) and INR 47,100 (alloys). Hero MotoCorp would aim to keep the prices in the same range.

The outgoing version retails for INR 45,100 (steel wheels) and INR 47,100 (alloys) – both ex-showroom Delhi – and Hero MotoCorp would target to introduce the new model around the same levels. The new design would help the Hero Pleasure to compete against its rivals like the Honda Activa-i, Suzuki Let’s, and the TVS Scooty Pep+. Given that the scooter was spotted during its TVC shoot, it shouldn't be long before we hear an announcement from Hero MotoCorp.

Hero Motocorp ties up with Snapdeal to sell products online - Report https://indianautosblog.com/hero-motocorp-snapdeal-tie-up-p161858 Sat, 13 Dec 2014 07:33:08 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=161858 Motorcycles will be delivered by nearest authorized Hero dealer.

E-commerce major Snapdeal and two-wheeler giant Hero MotoCorp have inked a deal to sell two-wheelers online.

Hero Karizma R side at EICMA 2014
Online sales help customers save time and effort.

Snapdeal began selling the Hero Maestro for a price of Rs 46,700 exclusively on its website. This was an offer that coincided with the Google's promotional 'Great Online Shopping Festival'.

The new tie-up will entitle Snapdeal to sell more brands from the Hero MotoCorp stable including motorcycles such as the all time high-selling Splendor, Passion Pro, Ignitor, Karizma among others.

Snapdeal has already setup a very good inventory for automobile parts and accessories such as tyres, in-car entertainment systems and other bits and this move will strengthen their presence in the two wheeler online market even further.

The process of ordering a vehicle online will work as a gateway between the buyer and the nearest authorized dealer. The payments will be done online following the authorized dealer delivering the vehicle of choice with papers upon receiving the payments.

Hero Xtreme Sports concept at EICMA 2014
Tie-up with Snapdeal is would help Hero reach out to young audiences.

The whole process sounds pretty hassle free, in fact it would be convenient as paying online via a credit card would automatically give an option for EMI (which takes quite a bit of documentation when done via the brick and mortar setup).

That said, people would still prefer to look and feel the vehicles inside the brands particular showroom to understand what they are getting into. And while online is convenient, it's the whole buying experience in general that we all have gotten so used to and we are not so sure how many of us are ready to part ways with.

As a move to strengthen Hero MotoCorp's global identity and promote the their core values on an international level, the company has lined-up a series of campaigns with Woods that would run over multiple platforms, print, electronic, digital, social and outdoors.

This move aligns with Hero's global expansion plans as the company looks to setup new manufacturing units in Brazil and Argentina. Hero also recently started construction of a plant in Colombia and are already present globally across Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Turkey, Egypt, Peru, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Congo and Angola.

Speaking about his association, the golfing champion said:

This association with Hero MotoCorp is exciting and it allows me to be involved with the world of two-wheelers and the vision of Pawan and Hero MotoCorp. We have a shared vision and I am proud to be working with the entire Hero family.

This is not Hero's first collaboration with the avid Golfer, as in September this year, they announced a separate four-year deal with the Tiger Woods Foundation to become the title sponsors of the Hero World Challenge, a PGA Tour event.
