Bajaj Avenger 220 Street discontinued in India https://indianautosblog.com/bajaj-avenger-220-street-discontinued-india-p320365 Tue, 21 Apr 2020 04:59:17 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320365 The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street has been discontinued in India. The cruiser-styled motorcycle has been taken down from the company’s official website.

Bajaj Avenger 220 Street side at APS 2015
The Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise is the only 220 cc Bajaj Avenger on sale now.

Bajaj Auto has updated its website with the latest BS6 products and removed the BS4 models. The Avenger 220 Street has not been listed. We had exclusively reported last month that Bajaj Auto stopped supplying any new stock of the Avenger 220 Street to dealerships last month. In fact, some sources also said that the company has already ceased the bike’s production.

Also, the Avenger 220 Street might not have been able to provide the sales numbers that Bajaj Auto hoped for. Perhaps, one of the primary reasons behind this could be the fact that the company also has a lesser capacity and more affordable Avenger 160 Street on offer.

All these facts indicate that Bajaj Auto has pulled the plug on the Avenger 220 Street and from now the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise will be the only 220 cc Avenger on sale.

The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street had a low and comfortable seat and relaxed riding ergonomics. The blacked-out engine and alloy wheels added to the attractive look of the motorcycle. The short exhaust not only looked sporty but also sounded pretty great.

The Avenger 220 Street used to draw power from a 220 cc single-cylinder, BS4-compliant engine which churned out 19.3 PS of max power and 17.5 Nm of peak torque. The suspension setup included telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers. The bike also featured a single-channel ABS.

With the end of the Avenger 220 Street, Bajaj Auto now has only two models in its Avenger range. These include the Bajaj Avenger 160 Street BS6 and Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise BS6 that retail at INR 94,893* and INR 1.16 lakh* respectively.

India today has one of the most stringent emission norms, the Bharat Stage-VI. While this change is good for the environment, it has brought major price hikes. Motorcycles are no different and still have become 7-10% more expensive now. Below are the best bikes under 1 lakh in India:

However, with a price tag of INR 67,100 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Hero Splendor iSmart 110 is still a very compelling product.

Hero now offers the Splendor iSmart with a new fuel-injected engine. The 113.2 cc air-cooled mill produces 9 PS of power and 9.89 Nm of torque. The BS6 engine offers 10% more torque and leads to an 88% reduction in NOx emissions. Other features include an Idle Stop and Start System (i3S), 18-inch alloy wheels, side stand indicator and a front disc brake. Besides that, the BS6 Hero Splendor iSmart 110 boasts 180 mm ground clearance, a 15 mm improvement over the discontinued model.

The Honda SP 125 is fitted with an ACG starter which helps in silent starts. Besides it gets an LED headlamp, digital instrumentation, low rolling resistance tyres, and a first in segment engine start-stop switch. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 Neon is one of the best bikes under 1 lakh in india

Introduced first in 2001, the Bajaj Pulsar brand has been instrumental in changing the way India rides. The Pulsar 150 has over the years gained on the price tag front over the years. However, the company does offer a more affordable, funkier looking variant now, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 Neon, targeting the youth. At INR 85,536, (ex-showroom, Delhi) it is around INR 13,000 cheaper than the standard Pulsar 150 (discs at both ends).

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 Neon looks very similar to the standard Pulsar 150, save for the neon colouring on the badging, single-piece grabrail, tank extension and faux vent on the side panel. It is fitted with a halogen headlamp while the instrumentation is the familiar semi-digital unit with an analogue tachometer and digital speedometer.

At the heart of the Bajaj Pulsar 150 Neon is a 149.5 cc air-cooled, two-valve, twin-spark engine. Coupled to a five-speed gearbox, it can produce 14 PS of power and 13.4 Nm of torque.

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 Neon is retailed in three colours: Neon Red, Neon Green, and Neon Lime Green.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 retains the dated semi-digital instrumentation console with a blue backlight.

The BS-VI transition has seen several motorcycle manufacturers axe their old products, but that’s not the case with the TVS Apache RTR 160. Positioned as a more affordable offering in the 150-160 cc segment as compared to its 4-valved cousin, the TVS Apache RTR 160 is priced at INR 95,000 for the drum brake variant and INR 98,000 for the disc brake variant (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).

Continuing with the same design philosophy, the TVS Apache RTR 160 is powered by a 159.7 cc air-cooled, two-valve mill. Coupled to a five-speed gearbox, the engine can dish out 15.53 PS of power and 13.9 Nm of torque. The TVS Apache RTR 160 is available in six colour options: Pearl White, Matte Blue, Gloss Red, Gloss Black, T Grey, and Matte Red.

BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 160 Street specs leaked ahead of imminent launch https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-bajaj-avenger-160-street-specs-leaked-imminent-launch-p320028 Sat, 14 Mar 2020 05:17:37 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320028 Bajaj Auto will soon launch the updated BS-VI Avenger 160 Street in India. Ahead of the imminent launch, the specifications have leaked.

Bs Vi Bajaj Avenger 160 Street Specs
The power difference between the BS-IV and BS-VI models of the Avenger 160 Street is negligible.

BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 160 Street Specs

The new BS-VI Avenger 160 Street will be powered by a 160 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that will produce a maximum power of 11 kW or 14.95 PS at 8,500 rpm. It is the same engine that we have seen in the BS-IV Avenger 160 Street and it develops 11.03 kW or 15 PS of maximum power at 8,500 rpm in the same. So, there is hardly any power difference between the BS-IV and BS-VI models.

As far as the torque output of the BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 160 Street is concerned, it is being anticipated that the torque figure will be more or less the same - 13.5 Nm (at 7,500 rpm). Also, to meet the new BS-VI emission norms, Bajaj Auto has added a fuel-injection system, an ECU, and a new cat-con.

If we talk about the dimensions of the Bajaj Avenger 160 Street, they have been left untouched. The BS-VI version is 2210 mm long, 806 mm wide, 1070 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 1490 mm.

The new Avenger 160 Street will have no visual changes whatsoever. It will look very similar to the outgoing BS-IV model and carry the same modern Sportster-type style. So, features like roadster-like headlamp design, LED DRLs, low and long profile seat, super-wide rear tyre, comfortable riding posture, sporty exhaust, etc. can be found in the BS-VI model, too. Also, the Avenger 160 Street will continue to have the same colour options as before - Ebony Black and Spicy Red.

BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 160 Street now reaching dealerships, to be launched soon - Report https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-bajaj-avenger-160-street-now-reaching-dealerships-launched-soon-p319974 Fri, 06 Mar 2020 05:19:48 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319974 IndianAutosBlog.com recently reported about a detailed walkaround video of the BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise which revealed that the new motorcycle has already started arriving at Bajaj Auto dealerships. Now, as per a new development, the BS-VI Avenger 160 is also reaching the company’s sales outlets.

Bs Vi Bajaj Avenger 160 Street Front Three Quarter
The only significant change in the BS-VI Avenger 160 Street will be its engine.

The new spy shot tells us that the BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 160 Street will have no visual changes whatsoever.

This indicates that the only significant change in the BS-VI Avenger 160 Street will be its engine. Even though it will be the same 160 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled mill as before, it will now be compliant to the stricter and more stringent BS-VI emission norms. For that, Bajaj Auto has added a fuel-injection system, an ECU, and a new cat-con.

In its BS-IV state of tune, this 160 cc engine produced 15 PS at 8500 rpm of max power and 13.5 Nm of peak torque at 7000 rpm. While Bajaj Auto hasn’t released the specifications of the BS-VI Avenger 160 yet, it is expected that the torque figure might slightly alter. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the company manages to keep the power output unchanged, as in case of the BS-VI Avenger 220 Cruise.

The BS-IV Bajaj Avenger 160 Street retails at INR 83,251*. The BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 160 Street is said to carry a price tag of INR 89,536*, which would be around INR 6.2k more. Some dealerships have started accepting booking for the new model for a token amount of INR 1,000-5,000.

Exclusive: Bajaj Avenger 220 Street could be discontinued this month https://indianautosblog.com/exclusive-bajaj-avenger-220-street-discontinued-india-p319965 Thu, 05 Mar 2020 14:20:49 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319965 While we were looking forward to Bajaj Auto launching the BS-VI Avenger 220 models in India, a new development tells us that the company might discontinue the Avenger 220 Street.

Bajaj Avenger 220 Street side at APS 2015
The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street might not be able to make it to the BS-VI round.

Dealer sources have told us that while they have started receiving stocks of the BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise, Bajaj Auto isn’t supplying any such stock of the BS-VI Avenger 220 Street. In fact, some sources also said that the company has ceased the production of the Avenger 220 Street and from now onwards the Avenger 220 Cruise will be the only 220 cc Avenger on sale.

Some dealer sources are still hopeful about the arrival of the BS-VI Avenger 220 Street later this month, but even they don't have any confirmation yet. They are also accepting pre-bookings for both BS-VI 220 Avenger models for a token amount of INR 2000-5000. So far, there has been no official statement from Bajaj Auto on this topic. An email sent to the company regarding a clarification went unanswered till press time.

The Avenger 220 Street might not have been able to provide the sales numbers that Bajaj Auto hoped for. Perhaps, one of the primary reasons behind this could be the fact that the company also has a lesser capacity and more affordable Avenger 160 Street on offer. So, people who liked the Street variant of the Avenger would rather pick the 160 variant than the 220 variant.

The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street has the same underpinnings as the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise. It is powered by a 220 cc single-cylinder engine that produces 19.3 PS of max power and 17.5 Nm of peak torque. It has a relaxed and slightly sporty riding posture. Its wide rear tyre and twin rear shock absorbers provide a good ride quality. It also has a single-channel ABS.

BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise detailed in a walkaround video https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-bajaj-avenger-220-cruise-detailed-walkaround-video-p319967 Thu, 05 Mar 2020 08:07:47 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319967 Bajaj Auto will soon launch the BS-VI Avenger 220 Cruise in India. The price of the upcoming motorcycle was already leaked and now it has been revealed in a detailed walkaround video. The video was shot at what seems to be a Bajaj Auto dealership. This indicates that the new BS-VI Avenger 220 Cruise has already started arriving at sales outlets.

Bs Vi Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise Front Three Quarter
The BS-VI Avenger 220 Cruise has the same design as its BS-IV counterpart.

Visually, the BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise is the same as the BS-IV model. There are no aesthetic changes whatsoever. It features the classic cruiser style with low seat height and a relaxed riding posture. Its long windscreen provides good protection from windblasts, especially when riding at high speeds. There is a uniquely designed halogen headlight accompanied by LED DRLs. The chrome rearview mirrors add a classic and retro touch.

The new Avenger 220 Cruise will be powered by the same 220 cc, single-cylinder oil-cooled engine with Twin Spark DTS-i technology. However, it will now comply with the latest and more stringent BS-VI emission norms. To achieve that, Bajaj Auto has added a fuel-injection system and also installed a revised cat-con in the exhaust pipe.

Surprisingly, after all these changes, the engine produces the same amount of power as it did in its BS-IV avatar - 19.03 PS at 8400 rpm , as per a recently leaked official document. As for the torque output, previously it was 17.5 Nm at 7,000 rpm and it might vary slightly now. In its BS-VI avatar, expect the engine to be more refined and smooth. Its performance and fuel-efficiency should have some improvement.

The fully-digital instrument cluster of the Avenger 220 Cruise is being carried forward. It shows a plethora of information like odometer, speedometer, trip meters, time, fuel level, side stand indicator, etc. There is also a secondary display on the fuel tank which is basically for the tell-tale lights like neutral, engine malfunction, etc.

The BS-VI Avenger 220 Cruise will have a telescopic suspension setup with anti-friction bushes at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. The braking duties are carried out by a 260 mm front disc and 130 mm rear drum. A single-channel ABS is standard.

Bajaj Auto has managed to keep the power output of the BS-VI Avenger 220 Cruise the same as before - 19.03 PS.

BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 specifications revealed ahead of imminent launch https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-bajaj-avenger-220-specifications-revealed-p319944 Tue, 03 Mar 2020 09:58:25 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319944 Last month, we reported about the leaked prices of the BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 models, and now, we have the specifications of the upcoming motorcycles.

Bs Vi Bajaj Avenger Specs
The BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 models will have the same amount of power (19.03 PS) as their BS-IV counterparts.

Both the BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 models (Street and Cruise) will carry forward the same 220 cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, Twin Spark DTS-i engine that used to produce 19.03 PS of max power at 8,400 rpm and 17.5 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm in the BS-IV models.

Bajaj Auto has somehow managed to keep the power figure of the 220 cc engine unchanged. While the torque figure isn't out yet, we suspect that even if there is a change, it would be marginal.

The BS-VI Avenger 220 Cruise will have the same length (2210 mm), width (806 mm), and wheelbase (1490 mm) as the BS-IV model, but its height will be 1,142 mm not 1,321 mm like that of the latter. Maybe the BS-VI version will have a shorter windscreen.

As far as the dimensions of the BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 Street are concerned, they are exactly the same as the old model's. It measures 2,210 mm in length, 1,490 mm in width and 1,070 mm in height.

The BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruiser and Street would be the same in terms of styling and design as the old models. They would also have the same cycle parts like the suspension setup, braking setup, etc.

The BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 160 will be cosmetically the same as the old model.

With the BS-VI update, the Bajaj Avenger 160 will get an INR 7,501 price hike and thus its new price will be INR 89,536*. The on-road pricing of the same will touch INR 1.13 lakh now. Bajaj Auto dealers have already started accepting bookings for the updated model. The BS-VI version will be cosmetically the same as the BS-IV version. However, the former will use fuel-injection instead of carburetor on its 160.4 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This in its current BS-IV form develops 15 PS and 13.5 Nm of torque.

The BS-VI Avenger 220 Cruise and Street, will be priced at INR 1.15 lakh*, this is INR 11,584 more expensive than the outgoing BS-IV compliant models. The on-road cost of the same now lies at INR 1.43 lakh. Select Bajaj dealers around the country have also started accepting bookings of the same. This is the second big update for the Bajaj Avenger 220 Street and Cruise since the launch. The first update to these models was given exactly a year back when they were given a single-channel ABS and their prices crossed the INR 1 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.

The BS-VI Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruiser and Street will be the same in terms of styling and design as the old models. Their 220 cc single-cylinder engine, however, will be equipped with fuel-injection technology, and this might lead to slightly different outputs. The BS-IV version delivers 19 PS of maximum power at 8,400 rpm and 17.5 Nm of maximum torque at 7,000 rpm.
