New Bajaj Platina 110 ABS Features Highlighted in Walkaround Video https://indianautosblog.com/bajaj-platina-110-abs-features-p322729 Tue, 02 Mar 2021 09:51:29 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322729 The new Bajaj Platina 110 ABS is expected to be launched in the Indian market anytime now. It will be the first motorcycle in its segment to feature single-channel ABS. While we are waiting for Bajaj Auto to make an official announcement regarding the new Platina 110 ABS, features of the upcoming motorcycle have been highlighted in a walkaround video, that has been uploaded by YouTuber Biker Prakash Choudhary.

Bajaj Platina 110 ABS Features

The first thing you might notice about the new Platina is its white alloy wheels. They make the motorcycle look more lively. If you look closely, you’d notice that there are speed sensors on both the wheels which are a part of the ABS. So, the braking equipment on this motorcycle includes a front disc brake and rear drum brake.

To complement the white alloy wheels, Bajaj Auto has added white graphics on some parts of the bike. For example, there are white elements on the headlight mask, front fender, fuel tank, side panels, and rear cowls. Speaking of graphics, the ‘110 ABS’ large stickers on the rear cowls are quite prominent and shows what’s special about this model.

Bajaj Platina 110 Abs Right Side
The Platina 110 ABS is the first motorcycle in its segment to feature a single-channel ABS.

Another interesting element of the new Platina 110 ABS is the knuckle guards. While they do look good, they appear to be quite flimsy in the video. Perhaps, that’s alright because Bajaj Auto might have added them for aesthetic purposes only because no one is expected to go bonkers off-road with a Platina, right? And these knuckle guards should work just fine in normal riding conditions and protect the rider’s hands from dirt, dust, wind, and flying debris.

Some of the other features of the new Platina 110 ABS include:

  • Halogen headlamp
  • LED DRLs
  • Stylish halogen turn signals
  • Analogue instrument cluster
  • Long and comfortable seat
  • Large rear footpegs

Bajaj Platina 110 Abs Rear Left
The new Platina 110 ABS has white stickers which complement white alloy wheels.

Bajaj Platina 110 ABS Specs

It is mentioned in the video that the new Platina 110 ABS draws power from a 115.45cc single-cylinder engine. We think that it is the same motor that also performs duties in the Platina H Gear. It comes equipped with an electronic injection system and is capable of delivering 8.6PS of max power at 7000rpm and 9.81Nm of peak torque at 5000rpm. The transmission here would be a 5-speed gearbox.

Bajaj Platina 110 ABS Price

The footage also tells us that the new Platina 110 ABS will be available for INR 81,000 (on-road, Hyderabad). Apparently, that’s the same price at which the Platina H Gear is available in the city. If that’s the case, then we think Bajaj Auto has done a phenomenal job.

This is the Bajaj Platina H Gear.

It is to be noted that Bajaj Auto has not released any official figures of the Platina 110 ABS. We are expecting the two-wheeler giant to share the same in the coming few days.

The BS-VI CT range, similar to the old (BS-IV) series is available with two engine options – 100 cc and 110 cc. The CT110 now features a new LED DRL that adds a premium touch to the vehicle. The company has also added a bash plate to the CT110 to enhance the protection to the engine on rough terrains. The CT range is available with prices starting from INR 40,794*, which makes it the most affordable BS-VI commuter motorcycle in the Indian market.

The Platina series, too, is available in two variants – 100 cc and 110 cc H-Gear. The BS-VI Platina range is available from INR 47,264*. The BS-VI Platina 100 Electric Start is available at INR 54,797*, which is about INR 6,368 more than the old (BS-IV) model's price.

The budget-friendly hardware specifications on both motorcycles include conventional telescopic forks at the front and twin-sided springs at the back to perform the shock absorption tasks. All motorcycles and their respective variants listed in this post come with drum brakes as standard, except the Platina 110 H-Gear, which can be had with a disc brake at the front (and a drum brake at the rear) optionally.

With the launch of the updated CT and Platina series, Bajaj Auto has commenced its transition towards BS-VI compliance. The company will make announcements about more BS-VI vehicles very soon. Speaking about the launch of the BS-VI CT and Platina series, Sarang Kanade, President – Motorcycle, said:

The introduction of these models begins the transition of our product range to BS6 norms. Bajaj Auto has scaled up their line-up of BS-VI compliant vehicles and will make BS-VI bikes available in the other models too in the next few weeks.

The H Gear is the new variant of the Platina 110 motorcycle that comes with a first-in-segment five-speed gearbox, a gear position indicator on the instrument console and a gearshift guide (up- and down-shift pointer). Right from questionable policymaking to the country sitting on the verge of a major slowdown. Every day, more and more people are not buying new vehicles. BS-VI 2020 Bajaj Platina makes spy photo debut https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-2020-bajaj-platina-makes-spy-photo-debut-p317970 Thu, 25 Jul 2019 07:30:40 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=317970 The BS-VI 2020 Bajaj Platina has been spied for the first time. Thrust Zone has published spy shots of the updated model that was spotted undergoing testing around Pune.

Bajaj Platina Bs Vi Spied Close Up
The BS-VI 2020 Bajaj Platina doesn't feature LED DRL and uses simpler alloy wheel design.

Also Read: Heavily camouflaged test mule of Bajaj Urbanite e-scooter spied again

The only camouflaged part on the test mule was the fuel tank. As seen in the spy photographs, the BS-VI model will not be drastically different from the BS-IV model. The 2020 iteration of the motorcycle will continue to use halogen headlight at the front. Surprisingly, the new model seen here doesn't feature fly-screen mounted LED DRL, unlike the current model.

The fuel tank, although camouflaged, can be seen with a raised chrome filler cap on the top. The saddle continues to be a single-piece unit with a flat layout. The alloy wheel design on the test mule does not match the units on the current Platina 100 or Platina 110 motorcycles. Instead, the vehicle in the spy photograph uses a relatively simpler layout. Thus, the bike in the pictures could be a new base variant of the Platina family.

The hardware specifications include conventional front suspension with fork gaiter and twin-sided springs at the back. Anchoring specifications include drum brakes on both wheels. The safety net will comprise Bajaj Auto’s Anti-Skid Braking system (combi-braking system – CBS).

The engine, on the other hand, will witness bigger upgrades. For starters, the updated motor will pack a fuel-injection system along with other sensors to comply with new emission norms. Bajaj Auto may upgrade both the engine variants – 100 cc and 110 cc – to BS-VI. The performance numbers are not likely to be much different from the current models.

For reference, the existing 102 cc air-cooled, 2-valve, DTS-I engine with ExhausTEC makes 7.9 PS of power at 7,500 rpm and 8.34 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm. The 115 cc air-cooled, 2-valve, DTS-I motor with ExhausTEC on the Platina 110, on the other hand, delivers 8.6 PS at 7,000 rpm and 9.81 Nm at 5,000. Bajaj Auto will most likely offer the 110 cc variant with two gearbox options – four-speed and five-speed. The Platina 110 with the five-speed gearbox should retain the H Gear branding.

Christened as the Platina 110 H Gear, the new variant boasts several upgrades over the standard 110 cc variant of the bike. We spent a few hours on the saddle of the Platina 110 H Gear on the highway around Pune to find out how does the new package perform in real-life conditions. Let's go through the Bajaj Platina 110 Review with Indianautosblog!

Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Review Black And Blue Fro
In terms of styling, the Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear features new paint, graphics and a 3D logo on the fuel tank.

Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Styling

The styling isn’t very different from the 100 cc and 110 cc Platina products. Thus, you would spot a LED DRL with a halogen headlight equipped fascia on the Platina 110 H Gear. The headlamp continues to feature a body coloured mask with corresponding graphics.

The more significant changes sit behind the fascia as the cockpit of the Platina 110 H Gear features a semi-digital instrument console. The left side of the instrument console includes an analogue speedometer, while the rest of the information is available on the digital display. Apart from the regular ride related information such as an odometer, one trip meter, battery indicator, fuel gauge and a clock, the digital screen comprises a first-in-class gear position indicator and gear shift guide. The gearshift guide recommends the rider to either upshift or downshift a cog depending on the engine speed. The information is uncluttered and easy to read, even in bright sunlight.

The handlebar continues to feature all the regular switchgear, including a pass button, although you would see a plastic cover near the front brake lever. The cover hides the mechanical combi-braking system (CBS) while aiding the aesthetics. We will talk about the CBS later in the review.

Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Review Black And Red Jpg
Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear hardly bears any differences from the 100cc and 110cc Platina

The fuel tank capacity remains at 11-litre, although Bajaj has added a 3D Platina logo on the tank to give it a more premium feel. The fuel-filler cap, as on the standard model, has a chrome finish.

The “Why Buy” data from 2018, compiled by Bajaj Auto, suggests that Comfort is the fifth most considered aspect by today’s buyer and the company has ensured that it gives enough attention to the department. Thus, to offer a better ride quality, it has installed a Quilt pattern seat with extra padding. This pattern is currently only available on the H Gear variant. The saddle feels spacious and well cushioned, and we are sure that the customers in this segment will appreciate the feature. That said, I found the seat to be a tad narrow towards the fuel tank for my liking.

Also read: BS-VI Bajaj CT and Platina with new features launched in India

The passenger comfort is further enhanced with the installation of wide footrests with rubber padding. A similar treatment is also given to the footrest on the saree guard, in case the pillion decides to side with both legs on one side of the motorcycle. A single-piece pillion grab rail at the back ensures sufficient space for the passenger to hold the bike.

The rear is finished with a conventional tail light and, similar to the front, clear screen blinkers for subtle and commuter-ish styling. The fit and finish feels sturdy and at par with its rivals in the 100-110 cc segment. To ensure that the H Gear variant stands apart from the standard Platina range, Bajaj Auto has given the motorcycle two new paint options and revised graphics for a refreshed look. The dual-tone colour theme on the Platina 110 H Gear includes Black/Blue and Black/Red paints.

While the styling has undoubtedly seen some upgrades, the mechanical specifications are the leading protagonist on the Platina 110 H Gear.

Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Review Black And Blue Eng
Mechanical upgrades include a five-speed gearbox that is a first in segment feature.

Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Engine and Performance

The engine displacement and performance numbers of the Platina 110 H Gear are identical to the standard Platina 110. Thus, the 115 cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine deliver 8.6 PS of max power at 7,000 rpm and 9.81 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 engine revs. However, unlike the standard Platina 110, the H Gear variant comes with a five-speed gearbox. The fifth gear, which Bajaj Auto calls H gear, works as an overdrive to offer better fuel economy on the highway. The ARAI-certified fuel economy stands at 84 km/l. We could not test the actual economy due to time constraints, but Bajaj Auto officials said that the motorcycle would deliver 70-75 km/l in real life riding conditions.

The motorcycle accelerates to 0-60 km/h mark effortlessly. In fact, the second gear redlines at 60 km/h before the speedometer needle stops going forward. The third cog will take you until 80 km/h while the fourth gear tops out at a little over 90 km/h. The fifth gear saw a top speed of 105 km/h on the analogue speedometer.

Also read: Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear gets its first price hike since launch

On the lower side, the third gear can be engaged at just 20 km/h without stalling the engine although the motor starts to deliver smooth acceleration from 30 km/h in that particular gear. The fourth gear starts to pull cleanly post 40 km/h mark. The fifth gear can be used from as low as 35-40 km/h mark although you would have to downshift for quick overtakes on the highway. Speed of 70-80 km/h in the top gear is the ideal spot for cruising on the highway as the engine feels relatively stress-free at those levels. The five-speed gearbox felt nice and smooth, although I did suffer from a couple of false shifts in my three-hour long ride experience.

The anchoring department has also witnessed an upgrade with the H Gear model. While the base variant of the Platina 110 H Gear uses a 110 mm/130 mm drum units at the rear and the front wheels respectively as standard, but it can be bought with a 240 mm rotor at the front. The braking system does not use a hydraulic CBS tech. Instead, Bajaj Auto has installed a mechanical CBS to the motorcycle. The hardware applies some pressure to the front brake as the rider uses the rear brake pedal. The system distributes the braking power for better stability.

We tested the disc variant of the motorcycle for the first ride experience, and we were content with the braking performance. The front disc offers a good bite and sheds speed at decent speeds.

Comfort, as we mentioned before, has been one of the most critical aspects while developing the Platina 110 H Gear. Here’s what Bajaj Auto has done to improve the ride quality.

Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Review Black And Blue Sea
The saddle features a quilt pattern and best in segment length for sufficient space for the rider and the pillion.

Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Ride Quality

The new Platina 110 H Gear has the same shock absorption setup as the standard Platina 110. Thus, the suspension department comprises conventional telescopic forks at the front with 135 mm travel and twin-sided, Nitrox-charged springs at the back with 110 mm travel. The setup delivers a comfortable ride experience, filtering our most of the undulations on the road. The “Comfortec” seat with its quilt pattern and generous padding further enhance the ride quality of the motorcycle. However, as mentioned above, I did find the saddle to be too narrow for my choice towards the fuel tank.

Bajaj Auto has also worked on improving NVH characteristics, and the Platina 110 H Gear delivers a smooth and refined ride experience. Vibrations are absent unless you are trying to redline the motorcycle in every gear. Even with the speedometer-indicating highway cruising speeds, the bike felt refined and stress-free. You would get a tingling sensation from the footpegs towards the top speed, but the Platina 110 H is not designed to extract performance and go apex hunting. It is meant to be a commuter motorcycle with a laid-back ride experience, and it does its job well.

The city-friendly rider’s triangle, with tall set handlebar and forward set footpegs, further ensures a comfortable riding stance.

So what’s the final word?

Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear Verdict

The Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear is a significant step-up over the standard Platina 110. The addition of a fifth gear along with a gear position indicator and gearshift assist gives it an edge over its rivals in the segment. The styling, build quality and feature list will catch the attention of potential buyers in the space and help the brand boost its sales in the Hero MotoCorp dominated territory.

The base variant (front drum brake) of the Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear is priced at INR 53,376* while the disc version is available at INR 55,373*. In comparison, its rivals such as the Hero Passion X Pro, Honda Dream Yuga and TVS Victor 110 retail at INR 58,050*, INR 55,226* and INR 56,682* respectively.

In terms of visual upgrades, the Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear features new, dual-tone graphics on the front fender, headlight mask, fuel tank, side and rear panels. Apart from the new graphics, the fuel tank features a 3D Platina logo while the back panel gets a "110 H Gear" sticker. That said, the fascia continues to use a LED DRL that sits above the headlight.

The cockpit has been revised, and the 110 cc commuter now features a semi-digital instrument console that includes an analogue speedometer. The information-rich digital screen displays a gear position indicator with an up- and down-shift pointer, fuel gauge, low battery indicator, odometer, trip meter, service reminder and a digital clock. The gear indicator points if the rider needs to go down a gear to avoid stalling.

The saddle gets a revised design too, and the Platina 110 H Gear’s seat has a ribbed pattern along with a ComforTec logo. A similar pattern was previously seen on the TVS Radeon. The dark brown shade on the TVS’s commuter looks more appealing. The pillion footrest has also been revised, and the unit on the Platina 110 H Gear is flatter for better comfort.

On the mechanical front, the Platina 110 H Gear features a five-speed gearbox. In comparison, the standard Platina 110 features a four-speed transmission. As the name suggests, the Platina 110 H Gear is based on the 110 cc version of the Platina. The gearbox features an all-down pattern.
