The company manufactured 5,008 vehicles last month. Out of which, 1000 units were of the MG ZS EV - an all-time high for MG India. This has been possible due to some improvement in semiconductor supplies through localization initiatives undertaken by the manufacturer. The coming weeks should hopefully see some more improvement.

MG Motor India also announced its retail sales figures of Oct 2022. The company sold a total of 4367 units last month which is a growth of 53% over the same month last year.

MG Motor India Brings Together Three Legendary Cricketers https://indianautosblog.com/mg-motor-india-brings-together-three-legendary-cricketers-p325333 Tue, 04 Oct 2022 09:46:20 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=325333 MG Motor India is all set to go live with the second season of ‘SG Meets MG’, a continuation of a short YouTube video series that documents the legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar’s journey to becoming a part of the MG family.

Sg Meets Mg

For the latest season, Gavaskar teams up with his old friends (and sporting rivals), Lord Ian Botham and Sir Geoffrey Boycott, for the latest season to further explore the storied and stimulating British legacy that resonates with the brand Morris Garages.

The first season of SG Meets MG followed Sunil Gavaskar in England in 2021 when he shared his abiding fascination for some quintessentially English things – summers, cricket, and tea – and how he was now adding MG Motor to this list. The opening season also followed the veteran cricketer as he explored the home of MG, Kimber House in Abingdon.

All through the season, Gavaskar drew parallels between his own experiences in England and that of Morris Garages, as he learnt more and more about the company’s legacy of manufacturing stylish and sporty cars. Cars that are high on performance and dependable across all aspects of quality and sturdiness. The entire journey left a lasting impression on him, which encouraged and led him to become a proud owner of the MG Hector Plus, a characteristic example of British elegance.

The latest season of SG Meets MG further explores Gavaskar’s association with MG Motor India, where he visits England to meet and chat with his friends Lord Ian Botham and Sir Geoffrey Boycott about their fondness for food, cricket, past experiences, and MG cars.

SG Meets MG Season 2 will be available on Morris Garages India’s YouTube channel and other social media platforms from October 04, 2022.

MG is taking all necessary steps to address the production and supply-chain issues and anticipates the situation to improve in H2 2022 gradually.

CleanMaxis the first renewable energy company to set up a Wind Solar Hybrid Power Park in Gujarat to sell clean energy to private consumers and corporates. It plans to expand to 150 MW by 2022. MG’s Halol facility is expected to begin drawing power in February 2022 from CleanMax’s hybrid park in Rajkot and will continue to do so for 15 years.

The production levels are impacted in June and will remain so in July-August due to the global shortage of semiconductor chips. Speaking on the brand’s sales performance, Mr. Rakesh Sidana, Director – Sales, MG Motor India, said:

We are seeing early signs of positive consumer sentiment in June and potential purchases due to pent-up demand, which was on hold due to the pandemic. Even though some markets are still under lockdown, the ramping up of the vaccination drive has given us hope and we expect the demand to increase during the festival season. However, we have to remain cautious of the potential threat posed by the third wave.

The Hector range is available from a starting price of INR 13.17 lakh. On the other hand, the MG Gloster price begins from around INR 29.98 lakh. MG Astor (MG ZS Petrol) Spied on Tape, Launch in Late 2021 https://indianautosblog.com/mg-astor-mg-zs-petrol-spied-p323805 Mon, 07 Jun 2021 02:45:57 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323805 MG Motor India continues to test the petrol-powered variant of the MG ZS EV that’s most likely to be called the MG Astor. The upcoming SUV has been spotted undergoing road testing in India a few times in the past. And now, a test mule of the new Kia Seltos rival has been spied on our roads once again; this time in Vadodara, Gujarat.

The latest MG ZS Petrol spy pictures have been shared by a YouTuber called “Barodian Boy Jatin”. Perhaps, this is the first time that the SUV has been spied up close. We can see in the images that the vehicle is heavily camouflaged, thus, hiding most of the design and exterior elements very well. However, we can still figure out a few details. For instance, the upcoming MG Astor would come equipped with a roof-mounted rear spoiler with an integrated high stop tail lamp. MG Motor India would also include integrated turn signals in the outside rearview mirrors.

The front end of the upcoming MG ZS Petrol is quite exposed in these spy shots. It features a large grille with a prominent MG logo in the centre. The headlamps seem to be LED units and have integrated LED DRLs. They do look very sporty and add an aggressive and bold look to the SUV’s front end. The side profile of the car is also well-maintained thanks to the good-looking alloy wheels and the upswept window line. A close observation reveals that the test mule also has a panoramic sunroof.

While these are the only details that have been revealed by the latest spy shots, we do know that the upcoming MG Astor would be based on the updated ZS Petrol that is already present in the international markets. Therefore, it’s likely to borrow several features such as new LED taillights and revised bumpers, automatic AC, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a 10.1-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, coloured MID, and more.

Apart from these, the MG Astor would also come equipped with advanced safety features like an autonomous emergency braking system, hands-free auto park, blind spot detection, front collision warning and adaptive cruise control. In terms of dimensions, the Hyundai Creta rival would be identical to the MG ZS Petrol available internationally. It would be 4,314mm long, 1,809mm wide, 1,644mm tall and have a wheelbase of 2,585mm. As far as the engine options are concerned, the new MG Astor is would be made available with a 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 1.3L turbo petrol unit. MG Motor India is expected to launch the new SUV by the end of 2021.

MG Hector's Smaller Sibling Could Rival Hyundai Venue and Maruti Vitara Brezza https://indianautosblog.com/mg-maruti-brezza-hyundai-venue-rival-p322579 Fri, 12 Feb 2021 10:25:52 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322579 MG Motor India will be launching a new compact SUV in India this year. The carmaker has revealed that it will be positioned below the Hector in MG's lineup in India and will be their most affordable offering in the country yet. Speaking to a media outlet, Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India, has said that the company will be launching the new SUV "later this year". There is, however, no confirmation if this will be sub-compact or a compact SUV.

2020 Mg Zs Facelift Exterior
The upcoming SUV from MG Motor will likely be a sub-compact model that will rival Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, et al (MG ZS used for representative purposes only).

The sub-compact SUV space is the most lucrative automobile segment in the country right now, with almost every major manufacturer having a product in this segment. MG Motor - who markets themselves as an SUV brand in India - has surprisingly been missing from this segment till now. It is thus safe to speculate that this upcoming SUV will be a sub-compact model and if it's positioned below the Hector, prices will likely start from under INR 10 lakh. This will put the new model in crosshairs with the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue.

Details about this upcoming SUV are scarce at this moment, but all we know is that it will be an ICE-powered model and not an all-electric offering. Sitting in the sub-compact SUV space, it will likely be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. Apart from this new entry-level model, MG Motor will also be launching the ICE-powered ZS in India this year. The MG ZS is a compact SUV that will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It has already been spied testing on our roads several times.

Recently, the carmaker updated the Hector with a subtle facelift that brings some tasteful cosmetic updates on the outside and new features on the inside as well. Just yesterday, MG Motor also launched a new CVT gearbox on the Hector and Hector Plus with its 1.5L turbo-petrol engine. Aimed primarily for city use, the new CVT automatic gearbox makes the Hector a lot more versatile and city-friendly than before.

With two upcoming launches in two very important SUV segments in the country, MG Motor will firmly establish their image as an SUV-maker in India. By the end of the year, MG will have at least one product in each of the SUV categories in the country - upcoming sub-compact SUV; ICE-powered ZS in the compact SUV segment; Hector and Hector Plus in the mid-size SUV segment and Gloster in the full-size SUV segment.

MG ZS Petrol (Kia Seltos-rival) Spied On Test in Mumbai https://indianautosblog.com/mg-zs-petrol-india-mumbai-p322531 Tue, 09 Feb 2021 03:30:13 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322531 The ICE-powered MG ZS has been spied testing on our roads once again. These images were sent to us by our Mumbai-based reader, Akshat. The ZS is going to be one of the most important new launches from MG Motor India as it will go on to lock horns with heavyweights like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The ICE-powered MG ZS was first showcased locally at the 2020 Auto Expo, where we saw the vehicle in a facelifted guise. The test mule here is heavily camouflaged but we believe it will be the UK-spec facelifted model that MG Motor will launch here.

Mg Zs Spy Image Rear Three Quarters 3
The ICE-powered MG ZS has been spotted testing in India once again.

The facelifted MG ZS comes with more aggressive styling with a new grille, revised projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a sportier bumper with a wide air dam and stylish foglamps with black accents. At the rear, the ZS has been updated with new LED tail lights and a sportier bumper. The car even features new alloy wheels. The recently launched 2021 MG ZS EV, however, is still based on the pre-facelift model.

On the inside, the dashboard of the ZS facelift remains more or less similar to the pre-facelift version. However, MG Motor have updated the UK-spec MG ZS with a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new digital instrument cluster and a re-designed center console. We expect these updates to filter down to the India-spec model as well. We saw pretty good fit and finish levels in the ZS EV and we expect the same for its ICE-powered sibling.

Mg Zs Spy Image Rear Three Quarters 2
There are very good chances that it will be the facelifted version of the MG ZS that makes it to India.

Under the hood, the MG ZS will be powered by a petrol engine, which will be the only choice on offer in India. Internationally, it is available with a wide range of engine options to choose from. These includes a 111hp/160Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine; a 120hp/150Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 160hp/230Nm 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine. It is the most potent option that is expected to make it to India on the petrol-powered ZS. This engine will likely come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

MG Motor India could also continue with the 141hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that currently does duty on the Hector and Hector Plus. We will have more details of the engine options closer to the launch of the vehicle, which we expect to take place in the later half of the ongoing calander year. Prices are expected to start from INR 12 lakh, ex-showroom.

Compared to the older model, the Excite variant is INR 10,000 dearer while the Exclusive variant is INR 60,000 dearer. Initially, the ZS EV was launched in just six major cities in India but with increased traction for EVs in India, the new ZS EV will be available across 31 cities in India. Recently, MG also updated the Hector SUV with new features and also launched the 7-seater version of the Hector-Plus.

The MG ZS sold in the Vietnamese and Thai markets is the facelifted version that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The made-in-Thailand MG ZS facelift has now been crash tested by ASEAN NCAP and it has come away with an impressive 5-star safety rating. The MG ZS scored 32.27 points out of maximum 36.00 points available in adult occupancy protection. Meanwhile, it scored 40.96 out of maximum of 49.00 points for child occupant protection. Let's tell you more about it in detail.

Mg Zs Asean Ncap Crash Test
The made-in-Thailand MG ZS facelift has now been crash tested by ASEAN NCAP and it has come away with an impressive 5-star safety rating.

The MG ZS secured 14.27 points out of 16.00 for the frontal impact test. It scored a full 16.00 out of 16.00 for the side impact test and 2.00 out of 4.00 for the head protection for adult occupants. Petrol-powered MG ZS spotted testing in India on an earlier occassion.

ASEAN NCAP tested the base C+ trim of the ZS SUV. In terms of safety equipment, the base trim of the ZS comes equipped with dual front airbags, ABS, ESC, and a seatbelt warning system with retractor, pre-tensioner, and load limiter for the driver and front passenger. Additional safety features also include side and curtain airbags as optional extras. The ZS however scored only 61% in the safety assist assessment for a weighted score of 15.28.

When MG Motors brings the ZS to India, it will be a petrol-only SUV, at least initially. MG Motors offers a wide range of engine options with the ZS SUV overseas. There's a 111hp/160Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit, a 120hp/150Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 160hp/230Nm 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit. It remains to be seen which of these make it to India. MG Motors is expected to debut the ICE-powered ZS SUV in India sometime in early 2021, possibly before March. When launched, it will sit in the mid-size SUV segment where it will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. We expect prices to start from around INR 12 lakh, ex-showroom.

Petrol-Powered MG ZS SUV Spotted Testing Once Again; Launch In Early 2021 https://indianautosblog.com/mg-zs-petrol-suv-spotted-testing-p322175 Wed, 30 Dec 2020 07:30:45 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322175 Its been about a year since MG Motors launched the ZS EV in India and the company has more plans with the ZS nameplate for India. MG showcased the ICE-powered ZS SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year and it has been spotted testing on our roads a couple of times since then. One of the biggest launches coming from MG Motors in 2021 will thus be the ICE-powered ZS SUV. It has now been spotted testing on our roads once again. This time it was seen with a new set of dual-tone petal-shaped 5-spoke alloy wheels, the same that's offered on the UK-spec MG ZS facelift that was launched earlier this year.

Mg Zs Suv Spied
The ICE-powered MG ZS SUV has been spotted testing on our roads once again in its facelift guise.

It is thus safe to assume that it will be the facelifted model of the ZS SUV that MG will bring to India. In fact, the model showcased at the Auto Expo was the facelifted model itself. On the other hand, the MG ZS EV that's sold in India is based on the pre-facelift version. The ZS facelift looks a little more sportier than the ZS EV with some design revisions here and there. The MG ZS facelift gets a new grille, revised projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a sporty bumper with a wide air dam and stylish foglamps with black accents. It also gets new LED tail lights at the rear with a sportier looking bumper, and of course, the new design for the alloy wheels.

We however do not expect many changes on the inside as compared to the ZS EV. The MG ZS SUV that was showcased at the Auto Expo had blacked-out windows and we didn't really get a look of the interiors. However, the UK-spec ZS SUV gets a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a re-designed center console and a few additional features like a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof. We expect these updates to make it to the India-spec model as well. We saw pretty good fit and finish levels with the ZS EV and we expect the same for its ICE-powered sibling as well.

New Mg Zs Petrol Facelift Front Three Quarters Rig
The model showcased at the Auto Expo was the facelifted model itself.

Under the hood, the MG ZS will be a petrol-only SUV, at least initially. MG Motors offers a wide range of engine options with the ZS SUV overseas. There's a 111hp/160Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit along with 120hp/150Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The third engine option is a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit and that's the one we will be getting here in India. This engine produces 160hp and 230Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox as standard. We expect MG to offer a manual gearbox for India as well.

Conversely, MG Motors could even continue with the 141hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that currently does duty on the Hector and Hector Plus SUVs. There are even rumors of a petrol-hybrid powertrain to be in the pipeline, which could be introduced at a later stage.

2021 MG ZS Makes Its Global Debut In UK; India Launch In The Pipeline For March 2021 https://indianautosblog.com/2021-mg-zs-makes-global-debut-p321067 Mon, 06 Jul 2020 09:00:29 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321067 The MG ZS has quite a short history in the Indian automotive market. Back in December 2019 we first got to see and drive the MG ZS, however, in its electric version and in its outgoing Global ZS EV design form. Fast forward a few months, and at 2020 Auto Expo, MG Motor India chose to showcase the all-new 2021 MG ZS but this time in its petrol avatar. Well the new MG ZS has now made its global debut in the UK with a host of interior and exterior tweaks over the outgoing version. It was even reported that MG Motor India were considering bringing the MG ZS in its petrol version to India by 2021.

2020 Mg Zs Facelift Exterior
From front to the rear, the 2021 MG ZS EV is a lot more intimidating.

In terms of styling, 2021 MG ZS looks a lot of more menacing than the previous version. The front fascia gets  hexagonal-shaped, blacked-out grill and is flanked by a sleeker pair of headlights with projectors and LED DRLs. Further down, the bumper is a lot edgier and gets slick-looking, blacked-out surrounds for the LED fog lamps. While the side profile remains largely familiar, it gets a set of newly-designed,17-inch alloy wheels to freshen things up. At the rear, the newly-styled MG ZS gets touches like a new LED tail lamp signature with a chunky bumper featuring a one-piece faux skid plate with faux dual exhaust outlets.

2020 Mg Zs Facelift Interior Dashboard
The interior of the 2021 MG ZS gets a premium looking cabin and high-end features.

Step inside and you’ll notice that cabin is neater and more premium compared to the current MG ZS. Interior highlights include a large 10-inch floating-type touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, full-digital instrument cluster, flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel and faux carbon fiber trim everywhere you look.

In terms of performance, the MG ZS will remain similar. While the UK only gets a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine with 106bhp/150Nm of torque, a few markets even get a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 103bhp/160Nm of torque. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the MG ZS in its petrol form could make an entry into India by March 2021. If so, will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Expect a starting price of INR 12-14 lakh.

MG ZS petrol launch update: MG starts scouting for component suppliers https://indianautosblog.com/mg-zs-petrol-launch-update-mg-starts-scouting-component-suppliers-p320279 Fri, 10 Apr 2020 05:30:20 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320279 The MG ZS EV sold in India is a derivative of the MG ZS petrol. The latter is also coming to our market, in 2021. A new development has come up about its arrival here.

New Mg Zs Petrol Facelift Front Three Quarters Lef
The new MG ZS petrol had its Indian debut at Auto Expo 2020.

MG imports knocked-down kits of the ZS EV from China to India and assembles them at the Halol plant. The company will likely follow the same strategy for the ZS petrol. A new report from Moneycontrol says that MG has started looking for component suppliers for the ZS petrol. “MG Motor has floated a request for quotation (RFQ) for a petrol version of the ZS which it intends to bring to the market next year,” an undisclosed industry source told the business publication recently.

Companies send out RFQs in the market as an invite to manufacturers to submit a price bid for the required components. In related news, IndianAutosBlog.com had revealed last month that MG is working on increasing the localisation level of the ZS EV. Back to the ZS petrol, the company had introduced it in India at Auto Expo 2020.

The MG ZS petrol was introduced in November 2016 and given a facelift in September 2019. In China, the facelifted MG ZS is available with a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine (163 PS/230 Nm) and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (120 PS/150 Nm). The former can be had with a 5-speed MT or a CVT, while the latter comes paired with a 6-speed AT as standard. In Thailand, the new MG ZS is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 114 PS and 150 Nm of torque. A CVT is standard.

New Mg Zs Petrol Facelift Rear Three Quarters Auto
MG had displayed the new ZS petrol with a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine at Auto Expo 2020.

LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, panoramic sunroof, fully digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, synthetic leather upholstery and air purifier are some of the key features of the new MG ZS petrol.

Expect the MG ZS petrol to cost anywhere between INR 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom). It’ll be neither as cheap as the 2020 Hyundai Creta nor as expensive as the VW T-Roc.

Exclusive: MG ZS EV localisation to be increased, could get a price cut https://indianautosblog.com/exclusive-mg-zs-ev-localisation-increased-price-cut-p320030 Sat, 14 Mar 2020 06:34:33 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320030 The MG ZS EV (MG eZS) is and will remain an imported model in India. However, it could still get more affordable, with a price cut.

The MG ZS EV is currently manufactured exclusively at SAIC’s Zhengzhou plant (Henan) in China. It is imported to India in knocked-down kits, which are assembled at SAIC’s Halol plant (Gujarat). Recently, IndianAutosBlog.com had an interaction with Rajeev Chaba, the President and MD of MG’s Indian subsidiary, talked about localisation. When asked about the localisation level for the MG Hector and MG ZS EV, below is what he said:

The Hector is more than 70% right now, and ZS EV is very less right now but we are trying that it also crosses 30-40% by next year.

The Indian government is becoming a killjoy for EVs. While last year it stimulated the demand by cutting the GST on EVs from 12% to 5%, this year it’s going to make some EVs costlier with a hike of 5-15% in the customs duty. The MG ZS EV, though, still may end up being cheaper eventually, owing to increased localisation.

For reference, the MG ZS EV is available in India in Excite and Exclusive trims, at INR 20,88,000* and INR 23,58,000* respectively. It is currently sold in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The availability will expand to more cities gradually, once there is enough supply and the charging infrastructure is in place.

The MG ZS EV competes with the Hyundai Kona Electric in India. The South Korean model is available in Premium and Premium Dual Tone trims, at INR 23,71,858* and INR 23,90,608* respectively. It can be purchased in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Cochin, New Delhi, Pune, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Kolkata and Lucknow.

In related news, the MG ZS (petrol) is also going to be launched in India, in 2021. It will go against the VW T-Roc, but it will be much more affordable, as unlike the German SUV, it will be locally assembled.
