Speaking on the brand’s sales performance, Mr. Rakesh Sidana, Director – Sales, MG Motor India, said:

We are seeing early signs of positive consumer sentiment in June and potential purchases due to pent-up demand, which was on hold due to the pandemic. Even though some markets are still under lockdown, the ramping up of the vaccination drive has given us hope and we expect the demand to increase during the festival season. However, we have to remain cautious of the potential threat posed by the third wave.

The Hector range is available from a starting price of INR 13.17 lakh. On the other hand, the MG Gloster price begins from around INR 29.98 lakh. The MG ZS EV is the only electric car available in the company’s entire product line-up. It has a starting price of INR 20.99 lakh.

Hyundai Alcazar vs MG Hector Plus - Which One To Pick? https://indianautosblog.com/hyundai-alcazar-vs-mg-hector-plus-p323309 Wed, 28 Apr 2021 16:00:00 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323309 Three-row versions of compact and mid-size SUVs are the latest trend in the Indian automotive market. We thus saw the Hyundai Alcazar being born out of the Creta, the Tata Safari being born out of the Harrier and the MG Hector Plus being born out of the Hector. With more vehicles yet to join the party, the competition is only going to get tougher. Here in this article, we will be comparing the newest seven-seater SUV - Hyundai Alcazar vs MG Hector Plus - the first three-row derivative of a five-seater SUV. Without further ado, let's drive straight into how these SUVs compare against each other.

Hyundai Alcazar vs MG Hector Plus - Exterior Design

In terms of styling, both SUVs have completely different and unique design philosophies. While the Hyundai Alcazar is underpinned by a stretched platform from the Creta, the Hector Plus uses the same platform as the five-seater Hector and only comes with a longer rear overhang. And that brings about a world of difference to their proportions. Overall, it is the Alcazar that seems more proportionate and properly SUV-ish. Meanwhile, the MG Hector Plus can even be seen as a high-ring MPV with rugged body cladding. The Alcazar's wheelbase measures 2,760mm. Meanwhile, the wheelbase of the Hector Plus is 10mm shorter at 2,750mm.

Hyundai Alcazar Front Quater Right
The Hyundai Alcazar seems more proportionate and properly SUV-ish in comparison to the MG Hector Plus.

That said, both SUVs look quite handsome. The Alcazar draws most of its design from the Creta but has been completely redone post the C-pillar. It gets longer overhangs, a distinct rear quarter glass area and a completely redesigned and more upright tailgate with new LED tail lights and bumpers. Elsewhere, it features new detailing on the grille and the headlamps. In comparison, the Hector Plus is more similar to the Hector in terms of styling than the Alcazar is to the Creta. Most body panels on the Hector and Hector Plus are identical.

Mg Hector Plus Select
The MG Hector too is a smart and stylish looking SUV, more so than its five-seater sibling.

The Hector Plus, however, gets sleeker and more stylish headlamps along with a frameless grille with unique detailing. The front bumper is also looks sharper and sportier and is devoid of all the chrome you see on the Hector. At the rear, the Hector Plus gets sleeker LED tail lamps and a redesigned bumper. Both the Alacazar and the Hector Plus ride on stylish 18-inch alloy wheels.

Hyundai Alcazar vs MG Hector Plus - Interior and Features

Although Hyundai has not yet officially revealed the interior dashboard design of the Alcazar, from design sketches previewed previously, we know it will be mostly similar to the Creta. Hyundai could, however, thrown in some new colors and trim elements to bring about some differentiation in terms of design. That said, the Alcazar will have a pretty likeable interior design with a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system dominating the dashboard. It is also expected to come with a fully digital instrument cluster as opposed to the semi-digital instrument console on the Creta. The sound system could also be upgraded with two additional speakers for the third row of seats.

Hyundai Alcazar Interior Teaser
Although Hyundai hasn't officially previewed the interior yet, previously shared design sketches reveal it will be pretty similar to the Creta.

In comparison, the interior of the Hector Plus is exactly identical to that of the Hector, except for a tan brown upholstery for the seats. A large 10.4-inch vertically oriented touchscreen takes center stage on the dashboard. However, the lack of physical buttons and dials for the climate control functions are a sore point of the interior. These functions are incorporated within the touchscreen. In comparison, the Alcazar's HVAC controls are much easier to use. Also, the Hector Plus gets analog dials for instrumentation, which could be a downer for some. That said, the Hector Plus has a pretty likeable interior design with the leather insert on the dashboard further enhancing the appeal.

The interior of the MG Hector Plus is identical to that of the Hector.

In terms of features, both SUVs come loaded to the brim. Features shared between both SUVs include automatic climate control, wireless charging, connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, powered front seats, panoramic sunroof, AC vents for all three rows and much more. However, the Alcazar has an upper hand here with some additional features over the Hector Plus that include ventilated front seats, drive/traction modes and six airbags as compared to four on the Hector Plus. Meanwhile, the latter additionally gets gesture-controlled boot opening function and 'Hello MG' voice command function.

Hyundai Alcazar Front Quarter 2
Overall, in terms of cabin experience, it is the Alcazar that feels more premium and is better equipped too.

In terms of seating, both SUVs are offered with 6- or 7-seater configurations. In 6-seater configurations, both SUVs get captain seats for the middle row while 7-seater configuration gets a bench seat. In the 6-seater version of the Alcazar, there's even a floor-mounted central arm rest with additional storage and that's a really premium touch. As for boot space, with all the seats up, the Alcazar has a boot capacity of 180-liters. In comparison, the Hector Plus only has a boot capacity of 155-liters with all the seats up. The Alcazar has the larger boot capacity, thanks to its longer wheelbase.

Hyundai Alcazar vs MG Hector Plus - Engine Options

Under the hood, the Hyundai Alcazar gets the options of two engines - a 2.0L petrol and the 1.5L diesel engine. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine has been tuned to produce 159PS and 192Nm of peak torque. Hyundai says the Alcazar petrol can sprint from 0-100 kph in less than 10 seconds. This is the same  engine that does duty on the Hyundai Elantra and Tucson. The tried-and-tested 1.5L diesel engine has been carried over from the Creta and produces the same 115PS and 250Nm of torque. This diesel engine has, however, been recalibrated for the bigger and heavier 7-seater SUV. Both engines come mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox on the Alcazar.

The MG Hector Plus also gets the option of one petrol and one diesel engine under its hood. It is powered by either a FCA-sourced 170hp/350Nm  2.0-litre diesel engine or a 143hp/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The petrol engine can also be had with mild-hybrid tech for start/stop functionality and additional torque boost. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard while the turbo-petrol variants also are additionally offered with the option of a 7-speed DCT gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox.

Hyundai Alcazar vs MG Hector Plus - Pricing

The MG Hector Plus is currently priced from INR 13.62 lakh and goes up to INR 19.81 lakh (ex-showroom). Prices of the Alcazar are yet to be revealed, but we expect it to range between INR 12.50 lakh to INR 19.00 lakh (ex-showroom). That means a Creta equivalent variant of the Alcazar is expected to cost about INR 1-2 lakh more. Which one makes more sense for you? Well, if you want a tech-laden, spacious, 6/7-seater SUV with good street presence, the MG Hector Plus makes for a good choice. However, the Alcazar promises a far more premium experience with good drivability, lots of features and a very strong street presence. Ultimately, the dicing factor will come dopwn to the price of the Alcazar, which is expected to be revealed later in May 2021.

Top 5 Seven-Seater SUVs in India - Hyundai, MG, & More https://indianautosblog.com/top-5-seven-seater-suvs-india-p323154 Fri, 16 Apr 2021 05:15:24 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323154 The launch of the Hyundai Alcazar is likely to make the story in the 7-seater SUV segment a bit more interesting. Alcazar, a bigger derivative of the Creta SUV essentially gets a three-row seating with a 6- and 7- seater cabin option and a new 2.0-litre engine to entice the buyers looking to buy an SUV that is also practical. Right now, there are hardly any products below INR 15 Lakh in this segment. As the competition is set to get stiffer, here is a refresher on all the key offerings that operate in the same segment.

Hyundai Alcazar

Hyundai is expected to launch the Alcazar in May. The three-row SUV could be priced between INR 12 lakh to INR 18 lakh depending on the variant. It will be available in both 6- and 7-seater configurations. At its heart, the Alzacar will come with two engines: 2.0-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units. The petrol engine is the same one that powers the Elantra and Tucson but in a slightly higher state of tune to produce 159 PS and 191 Nm while the diesel engine is the same as the Creta’s with 115 PS and 250 Nm. Both engines will be available with the option of 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. It also comes with three drive modes: Eco, City And Sport.

The Alcazar will be equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and wireless charging. Hyundai’s three-row SUV will also get a larger digital instrument cluster. In terms of safety, the car could feature multiple airbags, a rear parking camera as well as front and rear parking sensors. In the domestic market, the car will go up against the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV500, Tata Safari, and the Mahindra XUV700.

MG Hector Plus

The MG Hector Plus does not carry a lot of changes than its 5-seater sibling Hector. The Hector Plus is aimed at being a more premium version of the Hector. Hence, a few elements that work for the same include tan coloured leather upholstery. While the rest of the features are carried over from the Hector, the Plus version gets an additional seat. Ditching the conventional bench seat for the second row, the Hector Plus ships with captain seats for the second row and a bench for the third. MG clarifies that the third seat might not be apt for accommodating an adult, which is solely meant for kids.

The Hector Plus come with one additional feature than the standard Hector, which is the automatic tailgate. Some of the other key features of the Hector Plus include a Panoramic Sunroof, a Chit-Chat i-SMART Next Gen interface, captain seats with recline and slide function, LED lighting, 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment and tyre pressure monitoring system. Like its 5-seater sibling, the Hector Plus comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine rated 143 PS, a 1.5-litre hybrid engine that will output 143 PS and a 2.0-litre diesel engine that will deliver 170 PS. While the hybrid and diesel variants will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the petrol-only version will be offered with a DCT only.

Tata Safari

The 2021 Tata Safari is an extended version of the Harrier. At the front, it carries the same looks, the only exception being a slightly redesigned bumper in the rear. However, there is a considerable change in the roofline and space inside the SUV — the height has been raised and the rear has a more upright position, creating more space. The new Safari's dashboard design and interiors are similar to the Harrier. It gets an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, panoramic sunroof and push-button start. It also has an electronic handbrake.

While the Safari shares the same wheelbase as the Harrier at 2,741 mm, it also shares the drivetrain, which means it is available only as a two-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive and electric versions are in the offing in future. When it comes to the engine, the Safari will be powered by the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine as Harrier. This engine can produce 170 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. The Tata Safari competes with MG Hector Plus and has a starting price of INR 14.70 lakh*.

Mahindra XUV500

The Mahindra XUV500 is the sole premium 7-seater SUV from the brand and has been a successful product, with the last update introduced in 2018. Prices for the Mahindra XUV500 starts from INR 13.16 lakh* and goes up to INR 18.88 lakh*. The car is available in seven variants: W5, W7, W7 AT, W9, W9 AT, W11(O), and W11(O) AT. It is now offered with a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre diesel engine that continues to put out 155 PS and 360 Nm. The SUV gets the option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.

Mahindra XUV500 is offered with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 6-way adjustable driver seat, a sunroof, and cruise control. In terms of safety, the car gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. In the domestic market, the car takes on the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Innova Crysta, and MG Hector. Mahindra has announced to launch the all-new XUV500 and will rename it as the XUV700. Possibilities are Mahindra will retain the XUV500 as it is.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace

Last on our list is a bit expensive, a bit unconventional, yet an exciting product, especially for those looking for a premium product for the daily urban commute. The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace can be bought in a single fully-loaded variant priced at INR 33.24 lakh*. The car offers a 7-seater layout and comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that develops 190 PS and 320 Nm. This unit comes paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission option. Volkswagen offers the Tiguan Allspace with an all-wheel-drive (AWD).

VW Tiguan Allspace Side View
VW Tiguan Allspace is one of the premium 7-seat SUVs that are currently on sale in the country.

In terms of features, the car gets a digital driver’s display, connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, and powered front seats. Three-Row Mid-Size SUV Boom - What Makes It So Suitable For India? https://indianautosblog.com/reasons-why-three-row-mid-size-suvs-are-apt-for-india-p323135 Fri, 09 Apr 2021 10:30:17 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323135 The three-row mid-size SUV segment is seeing a huge resurgence in the Indian market currently. This segment was shed some new light with the launch of the MG Hector Plus late last year. Tata Motors jumped in with the new Safari earlier this year. Even Hyundai recently entered this segment with the new Alcazar. Meanwhile, Mahindra have officially announced the coming of the XUV700 later this year. Heck, even Jeep is going to join this segment with a three-row version of the Compass. Most of these SUVs are seven-seater derivates of their five-seater siblings. Here we will take a look at why the three-row mid-size SUV body type is so suitable for India and why so many manufacturers are keen to exploit the potential.

Mg Hector Plus Action Shot
The three-row mid-size SUV segment was shed some new light with the launch of the MG Hector Plus earlier last year.

Capacity to seat seven people

A vast majority of Indian families are more than just 4-5 people. In that case, a five-seater vehicle, even if it is an SUV, becomes quite limiting in certain circumstances. We, Indians, love travelling with our families or friends fully-loaded in a car, and in that sense, a seven-seater SUV serves a lot more practicality. It's never pleasant when you have to omit out certain people just because they wouldn't fit in your car. Having the option of seven seats always leaves room for more people.

Inherent advantages of SUV body type and styling

India's love for SUVs is no secret. Apart from lending you a dominating presence on the road, SUVs have a practical purpose too. Our road conditions in the city and even out on the highway are far from perfect. SUVs really come into their own over bad road surfaces. Given how frequently and suddenly we encounter such patches on our way, the added ground clearance and extra suspension travel in SUVs give them a more comfortable and plusher ride quality.

Optimum size for most Indian roads

One of the biggest advantages of these three-row mid-size SUVs is that they have an optimum size for most Indian roads. Large-size seven-seater SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor sometimes feel too big for our roads when you are driving in small towns or through narrow lanes. On the other hand, three-row mid-size SUVs have a very convenient size that fits most of our roads and lanes. They are only marginally longer than their five-seater sibling and still have the practicality of the third-row of seats.

All three-row mid-size SUVs are offered with a diesel engine

A lot of manufacturers have adopted the petrol-only route for their sub-compact and compact offerings in the country. Unfortunately, if you are in the market for a small diesel vehicle, you do not have many options. That said, diesel still remains the preferred fuel choice for a lot of car buyers in India. Interestingly, all the models in the three-row mid-size SUV space are still offered with diesel engines. That is what makes most sense in larger vehicles or SUVs as frugality becomes quite important here.

Attractive Pricing

If you do not have the budget to stretch up to a large-size seven-seater SUVs, these mid-size seven-seater SUVs are a great alternative. The third-row may not be as spacious as some large-size seven-seater SUVs, but in most cases, they are pretty usable.  The fact that these SUVs only cost about INR 1-2 lakh more than their five-seater siblings, it makes them great value for money. For just a little premium over the five-seater SUVs, you get much better road presence and more practicality and usability with seven seats. That already suffices what most Indians want from their SUVs.

MG Hector Crosses 50,000 Production Milestone; Manufactured By All-Women Crew https://indianautosblog.com/mg-hector-p322698 Fri, 26 Feb 2021 07:00:40 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322698 MG Motor India has announced that they have achieved the 50,000 production milestone for the Hector in India. The 50,000th unit of the Hector was recently rolled off the production line at the company's plant in Halol, Gujarat. This milestone has been achieved in a little less than two years since production started in April 2019. Perhaps the most notable fact about the 50,000th MG Hector was that it has been manufactured by an all-women crew.

Mg Hector Front Quarter
MG Motor has achieved the 50,000 production milestone for the Hector in India.

MG Motor say that the initiative has created a new benchmark in the industry, celebrating diversity - one of the core pillars that the carmaker stands for - as women led the end-to-end production. This first-of-a-kind initiative saw women-only teams involved in the complete production process - right from panel-pressing of sheet metal, and welding to painting jobs, as well as carrying out post-production test runs. MG Motor currently has 33% women workforce at its facility. The company aims to take it up to 50% in the near future.

The 50,000th unit of the Hector was completely by an all-women team in a special initiative by MG Motor.

Automobile manufacturing facilities are largely dominated by men in India, but it's simply great to see women leading a complete production process. Speaking on the development, Rajeev Chaba, president and MD, MG Motor India said,

“The rollout of our 50,000th Hector by an all-women crew comes as an honour to their contributions and hard work. It also demonstrates that glass ceilings no longer exist even in an erstwhile male-dominated industry such as automobile manufacturing. We believe that it will inspire more women to join the automotive industry in India and abroad.”

As for the MG Hector itself, it was MG Motor's first product in India and was launched on June 2019. By October 2019, MG Motor had already rolled off the 10,000th unit of the Hector. The carmaker has been thoroughly updating the model ever since. Around mid-2020, MG added the 6-seater Hector Plus to the Hector range that came with its own unique styling. Earlier this year, MG even launched the 7-seater version of the Hector Plus along with a subtle facelift for the standard 5-seater Hector.

More recently, MG even introduced a new CVT gearbox for the petrol engine with the Hector. The Hector is available with either a FCA-sourced 170hp 2.0-litre diesel engine or a 140hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The petrol engine can also be had with mild-hybrid tech for start/stop functionality and additional torque boost. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard while the turbo-petrol variants get the option of either a DCT or a CVT automatic gearbox.

Indians have a special affinity towards SUVs largely due to road conditions and also practicality. With cars like MG Hector, Hyundai Creta and Kia Sonet, the sub-20 Lakh market is abuzz with new launched every now and then. We have compiled a list of top 5 key offerings in the SUV segment under INR 20 Lakh that you can opt for buying -

Hyundai Creta

The mid-SUV from Korean carmaker happens to be the best-selling SUV in the country, even outpacing cars cheaper than the Creta. In its second generation now, the Creta has been a popular choice among SUV buyers ever since it was first introduced 5 years back and remains a top seller despite increase in competition.

Hyundai offers the new Creta with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, available with a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The other powertrain options includes a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that can be availed with either a 6-speed manual transmission, or an automatic transmission. The Hyundai Creta's prices start at INR 9.99 lakh* in the Indian market. It goes up against the likes of the Kia Seltos, Tata HarrierandMG Hector.

Kia Sonet

After its success story with the Seltos, Kia has stirred up a storm in the Indian sub-compact SUV segment with the introduction of the Sonet. The car borrows a good deal of features from the Seltos mid-SUV and packs it in a comprehensive package that is hard to overlook. In the hotly contested segment, the Kia Sonet locks horns with a few of the popular badges in the country like the  Maruti Suzuki Vitara BrezzaHyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300. Prices for the base variant with the petrol powertrain start at INR 6.71 lakh*, which goes up to INR 12.99 lakh* for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol GTX+ version with the 7-speed DCT.

Tata Safari

Tata Motors has reintroduced the Safari brand in India renaming the Gravitas SUV, which was an extended version of the Harrier and now gets a third row of seating. The Safari carries the same Harrier looks with considerable change in the roofline, increased height and enlarged rear overhang. In terms of length, the Safari is longer and taller than the Harrier by 63 mm and 80 mm, respectively.

While the new Safari's dashboard design is similar to the Harrier, it gets Oyster White upholstery that adds airiness to the cabin. It has an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, panoramic sunroof and push-button start. It also has an electronic handbrake. While the Safari shares the same wheelbase as the Harrier at 2,741mm, initially it is being offered only as two-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive and electric versions are in the offing in future. When it comes to the engine, the Safari will be powered by the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine like Harrier. This engine can produce 170 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque.

MG Hector

The MG Hector was introduced as India’s first Internet Car and recently got an update along side an additional 7-seater model under the Hector Plus moniker. It does not carry a lot of changes over its 5-seater sibling on the outside. The car comes with the same split headlight setup that sits on either side of the cascading grille. MG has slightly tweaked the bumper on both sides. Hector is the brand’s first offering in India and is priced reasonably, considering the amount of features it offers.

There are three seating options – a 5-seater, a 6-seater with captain seats and a 7-seater with bench type seat in the middle row. MG, however, calls the third row seating of the 6 and 7 seater variants apt only for kids and not adults, especially for longer travel periods. The Hector comes with automatic tailgate, panoramic sunroof, a Chit-Chat i-SMART Next Gen interface, 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment and tyre pressure monitoring system. There’s a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine and only a manual gearbox. The petrol engine also gets a mild hybrid variant.

Mahindra last updated the XUV500 in 2018 and the SUV has started to feel dated in the world of Safaris and Hectors. MG Hector and MG Hector Plus CVT Variants Launched https://indianautosblog.com/mg-hector-plus-cvt-price-p322567 Thu, 11 Feb 2021 08:13:40 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322567 MG Motor India has launched new versions of Hector and Hector Plus with CVT for 1.5L turbo-petrol engine option. Prices for the CVT-equipped Hector start from INR 16.52 lakh and go up to INR 18.10 lakh. Meanwhile, prices for the MG Hector Plus CVT variants start from INR 17.22 lakh and go up to INR 18.90 lakh. MG Motor will be offering the CVT gearbox on the top-spec Smart and Sharp variants of both the Hector and Hector Plus. Interestingly, it is only the 6-seater version of the Hector Plus that has been updated with the option of the CVT.

2021 Mg Hector Plus CVT Launch Price
The MG Hector and Hector Plus SUVs have been updated with a CVT for its 1.5L turbo-petrol engine.

The new CVT gearbox is an 8-step unit and even comes with Eco and Sports driving modes. With this, the 1.5L turbo-petrol engine is now available with three gearbox options - a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT and the new 8-step CVT. The 1.5L turbo-petrol engine produces 140hp and 250Nm of torque. It can also be had with mild-hybrid tech for start/stop functionality and additional torque boost. The Hector is now the only SUV in its class with the option of two automatic gearboxes on the same engine.

The MG Hector and MG Hector Plus CVT variants will be targeted at customers who primarily intend to use their SUVs within the city limits. The other petrol-automatic variant - 1.5L petrol-DCT - is known to be quite jerky at low city speeds. The new CVT gearbox promises a smoother driving experience for daily city commutes. MG also claims that the CVT will be more fuel-efficient than the DCT variants. Meanwhile, the petrol-DCT variants will be targeted at customers who are looking for more highway driving.

This is the second update that MG Motor India has rolled out on the Hector this year. Earlier, last month, the carmaker updated the SUV with a subtle makeover along with the addition of new features on the inside. The 2021 MG Hector gets a new design for the grille and larger 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels that fill the wheel arches much better. The previous 17-inch units looked rather tiny given the proportions of the SUV. On the inside, the Hector was updated with a new dual-tone black and beige interior theme along with wireless charging feature and ventilated seats for both driver and front passenger, the latter of which will be really appreciated in India.

In this price segment, the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos are two other SUVs that come with petrol-CVT powertrain options. The Hyundai Creta CVT variants are priced between INR 15.28-16.49 lakh. Meanwhile, the Kia Seltos CVT variants are priced between INR 14.45-14.86 lakh. With the new CVT gearbox, the MG Hector is now a little more versatile and more importantly, its buyers have wider options to choose from.

Here is a refresher on all the top 5 key offerings in the 7-seater SUV segment that you can opt for buying -

Tata Safari

The 2021 Tata Safari is an extended version of the Harrier which was earlier known as the Gravitas. At the front, the Safari carries the same Harrier looks with the only exception being a slightly redesigned bumper at the rear. However, there is a considerable change in the roofline and space inside the SUV — the height has been raised and the rear has a more upright position, creating more space. The rear also includes a new-look for the tail-lamps. In terms of length, the Safari is longer and taller than the Harrier by 63 mm and 80 mm, respectively. To keep the look distinct and different from the Harrier, the Safari will have the option of new colors.

Four-wheel drive and electric versions will likely be offered in the future. When it comes to the engine, the Safari will be powered by the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine like Harrier. This engine can produce 170 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque.

Off-roading capabilities come in the form of on-demand four-wheel-drive system, a rear differential locker and a BorgWarner transfer case.

Toyota Fortuner

The other engine option is the same 2.8-litre diesel engine as before which continues to make 177 hp and 420 Nm of torque along with the choice of a 6-speed manual. However, this engine can now also be had along with a new 6-speed torque converter gearbox that helps it makes 204hp and a massive 500 Nm of torque.

Seven-Seater MG Hector Plus Launching In January 2021! https://indianautosblog.com/seven-seater-mg-hector-plus-launch-timeline-p322090 Fri, 18 Dec 2020 13:30:14 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322090 When MG Motors launched the Hector Plus earlier this year in July, it was launched only as a six-seater with captain seats for the middle row. However, when MG had showcased the Hector Plus at the Auto Expo earlier this year, the company had said it will be available in both six and seven-seater options. Well, MG Motors have finally shed some light on the seven-seater version of the Hector Plus. The MG Hector Plus seven-seater will be launched in January 2021, which is when we are also expecting a facelift for the regular Hector.

On the inside, the new version of the Hector Plus will come with a bench seat for the middle row instead of the captain seats found on the six-seater version. The third row will continue with two seats as before. We are also expecting some more minor cosmetic changes inside and out to differentiate the two versions of the Hector Plus. The regular Hector SUV was recently spotted with new 18-inch alloy wheels and a revised grille. Perhaps these changes will also be making it to the seven-seater MG Hector Plus.

Mg Hector Plus Action Shot
The MG Hector Plus seven-seater will be launched in January 2021, which is when we are also expecting a facelift for the regular Hector.

Also Read : MG Motors Delivers Seven Units Of Gloster In A Single Day In Cochin

There will however be no changes under the hood and it will continue with the set of engines that's already available on the six-seater Hector Plus. That means It will continue with its FCA-sourced 170hp 2.0-litre diesel engine and the 143hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The petrol engine can also be had with mild-hybrid tech for start/stop functionality and additional torque boost. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard while the non-hybrid turbo-petrol variants also get a 7-speed DCT gearbox option.

Now an expansive features list have always been a strong hold of the regular Hector, then the Hector Plus and so will be the norm with the seven-seater Hector Plus. The equipment list will be shared with the rest of the Hector range. Some of the highlight features include a 10.4-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, MG’s in-car connectivity tech, a panoramic sunroof, an Infinity audio system, ambient lighting, a hands-free boot opening function, powered front seats, heated wing mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Prices for the seven-seater MG Hector Plus will certainly be more than the regular Hector (INR 12.84-17.89 lakh) but it is expected to be quite close to the six-seater Hector Plus (INR 13.74-19.69 lakh). MG Motors is the first mover in this space of seven-seater mid-size SUV. There are seven-seater versions of the Harrier (Gravitas) and Creta coming from Tata and Hyundai respectively. The Hector Plus currently rivals only the Mahindra XUV500, which too will be replaced by a brand new generation next year.

The design of these new bumpers has also helped increase the overall length by 60mm, taking the total to 4,720mm. The wheelbase, however, remains the same. Where you would find the biggest change is inside. The MG Hector Plus gets tan-leather upholstery, which can be found on the seats, dashboard and the door panels. The MG Hector Plus now also ditches the rear bench seat, in favour of premium captain-style chairs and the addition of a third-row seat. Apart from this, the MG Hector also gets an upgraded version of MG’s infotainment system, which will be available as an over-the-air update to existing Hector customers. The MG Hector Plus is available in three variants - Sharp, Style and Super.

The third option is the widely-used 2.0-litre turbo diesel unit which develops 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. The Hector Plus comes standard with a 6-speed MT but can be specced with a 7-speed DCT with turbo petrol versions. The MG Hector Plus is available in a total of three trim levels - Super, Smart and Sharp. The car will also offer two engine options to choose from. The first is the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit which delivers 141bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine is capable of developing 168bhp and 350Nm of torque, with the choice of pairing it with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DCT.

Talking of its exterior design, the MG Hector Plus gets subtle changes to distinguish it from the standard Hector. It gets an all-black grille with a bezel-less design, updated LED headlights, updated LED tailights, newly-designed front and rear bumper design. Thanks to the re-worked, pronounced bumper designs, the MG Hector is slightly longer in overall length. However, the wheelbase of both models remain alike.

Mg Hector Plus Interior Captain Seats

Step inside and the biggest change here is the addition of a third-row of seats and the second-row now getting two captain-style chairs. Differences inside are subtle but do lend an air of extra premiumness to the design. For example, while the standard Hector gets an all-black themed interior, the Hector Plus gets a dual-tone interior with tan leather seats and tan leather insert all around the cabin. Other unique touches include a beige headliner and AC vents for the third row of seats. In terms of features, you still get niceties like electrically-adjustable driver/co-driver front seats, a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, iSmart Connectivity features, AI-enabled voice commands and an eight-speaker Bose surround-sound system.

Mg Hector Plus Launch Date
The SAIC-owned carmaker has revealed that the new MG Hector Plus will be launched on 13 July.

As the name suggests, the MG Hector Plus is an elongated model of the 5-seater Hector which has already been on sale in our country for quite some time now. The upcoming SUV features redesigned front and rear bumpers that allowed the company to stretch the length of the vehicle by 65 mm creating extra room on the inside. Also, to refresh things a bit on the outside, MG has tweaked the headlamps and front grille.

The new MG Hector Plus is likely to be introduced with a 6-seater configuration with individual captain seats in the middle row. However, MG is expected to bring in the 7-seater version at a later stage. Apart from the addition of an extra row of seats, the cabin layout, design, and elements are very much identical to that of the 5-seater MG Hector.

Features such as a 7.0-inch MID, 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, etc., can be found in the new Hector Plus. MG has also changed the interior theme by adding tan brown leatherette upholstery that should make the cabin feel more opulent.

MG Hector Plus To Launch Soon, Here Are All The Reasons To Get Yourself Three Rows Of Seats https://indianautosblog.com/mg-hector-plus-three-row-of-seats-p321077 Tue, 07 Jul 2020 07:31:28 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321077 It wasn’t long ago that travelling with a family of 6 or 7 was done out of necessity, and could only be managed by squeezing three in the front bench and up to four in the rear. As time passed, with cars getting more compacts and lack of three-row comfortable people carriers, the concept of family travel slowly started to dissipate. Yes, there were options like the Mahindra Bolero and Tata Sumo available but these were basic modes of travel and best suited for life in rural areas.

Mg Hector Plus Action Shot
The MG Hector Plus has the looks of an SUV but provides the practicality of an MPV.

However, as premium three-row MPVs and SUVs start getting more popular, families have to rely on one vehicle to get all the jobs done. While the Toyota Innova Crysta has been around for a while, the market will now also witness the entry of a new player in the market - the MG Hector Plus. So as families get larger, friend circles become wider and the demand for multi-purpose vehicles never been greater, we thought we’d take a look at why three rows of seats can be beneficial for many families around the country. If you have a large family or the need for travel with a host of people onboard, these few points may help you make your decision about buying a premium vehicle with three rows of seats.

Three Row Seats People Carrier

People Carrier

Yes, we’ve mentioned the road trips with friends and family and yes, we’ve mentioned the need for essential travel with family. These are needs which people around the world have as well. However, one unique problem we have in India is festivals. We have a lot of them. They even have one thing in common - family gatherings. So without having to take two vehicles to one destination or having to re-do your journey over and over again to pick up leftover members, a large vehicle with three rows of seats.

Three Row Seats Kid Insurance

Kid Insurance

Even without having kids of your own, you know how annoying kids can be on journeys. They like to touch everything and they like to press every single button, asking, “yeh kya karta hai?” However, we also know you can’t live without them and can’t travel without them. So, if you were to travel in a vehicle with three rows of seats, all of this could be avoided. The kids can be kept to the last row of seats, cocooned in their own world and with a protective barrier to shield all their wrongdoings i.e the second row of seats.

Three Row Seats Pet Partner

Pet Partner

For anyone who loves their furry friends more than anything, you all will understand why travel without them doesn’t seem complete. You miss them and they miss you. However, with friends and family to lug along too, travelling in the boot can be very dangerous for them. They’ll get thrown around at every stop, turn and acceleration; while you have a constant fear of someone rear-ending your vehicle. However, with a third row, we feel you can rest easy.  Your pooches can be belted up using a harness and car leash, you can even have their belonging kept next to them. Win-win.

Three Row Seats Extra Space

Value-For-money

This coincides with our first point but we felt it deserved a shoutout of its own. This can be beneficial to not just you but also the people you ferry. Rather than having to take multiple vehicles to office, road trips, family vacations or family gather; you can take just one. Not only can everybody get to the destination together, but also be a heap more comfortable.

Three Row Seats Luggage Space

How much is too much?

While some might argue that extra boot space is wasted space and you never have so much shopping on board, we’d like to disagree. When the time comes and it will come, that you have splurged on a large object or enough for an entire family on major festivals, you’ll definitely be thanking yourself for having chosen the car with large boot space. It eliminates added expense of logistics and it can even act as a tool for major life decisions i.e moving houses. We feel extra boot space is an added bonus.
