Now celebrated around the world, Father’s Day is the time of the year you show your gratitude to your old man and with this year’s Father Day being just around the corner, you may have a hard time finding something that your dad likes at the last minute. Being no strangers to procrastination, and considering how distracting the Covid-19 pandemic has been, it is understandable if one hasn’t thought of the perfect gift yet. To help you out, today we have got this list of 5 best SUVs for Dads this Father’s Day.

Hyundai Alcazar

The newest launch in this list, the Hyundai Alcazar is perfect for dads with a quickly growing family. Hyundai’s latest SUV is based on the Creta, with the two being pretty similar except for the few differences. At the front, the Alcazar gets a new grille, redesigned headlights and bumper while the rear gets a boxier design with wraparound taillights and redesigned bumper and skid plates. The biggest change between the two SUVs are in their length, the Alcazar being quite a bit longer to make space for the new third row of seats. The Alcazar will be available in both 6-seat and 7-seat configurations, with the former getting captain seats in the middle row.

Prices for the Hyundai Alcazar range between Rs 16.30 lakh – Rs 19.99 lakh, ex-showroom. There are two powertrain options available – 1 petrol and 1 diesel. The petrol unit is a new 2-litre N/A petrol that churns out 159 PS and 190 Nm of peak power and torque. The diesel engine is the same 1.5-litre four-pot which puts out max power and torque figures of 115 PS and 250 Nm. Transmission options for the Alcazar are a 6-speed manual or torque converter auto.

Kia Seltos

If you want to gift your Dad an SUV that comes with pretty much every feature available but don’t want a 7-seat SUV, then the Kia Seltos can be a great choice. Launching in the Indian market in 2019 after being showcased at the 2018 Indian AutoExpo, the Seltos is one of the best selling compact SUVs in India. The mid-size SUV quickly became a best seller in the segment with its combination of feature-loaded trims, eye-catching design, and an attractive price range.

The Kia Seltos has two main branches of trim levels – Tech Line and GT Line. It is available with 3 engine choices of two petrol and one diesel. The petrol 1.5-litre 4 cylinder produces 115 PS/144 Nm of peak power and torque figures and can be paired with a manual or IVT transmission while the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol makes 140 PS/242 Nm max power and torque which comes mated with a manual or a 7-speed DCT. The 1.5-litre turbo-diesel churns out power and torque figures 115 PS/250 Nm respectively and you have the option of either a manual or an auto transmission.  Prices for the Kia Seltos range from Rs 9.95 lakh for the base HTE G trim and goes up to Rs 17.65 for the top GTX+ variant. All prices are ex-showroom, respectively.

Renault Kiger

The smallest and most affordable offering in this list of 5 best SUVs for Dads this Father’s Day, the Renault Kiger was launched earlier this year and is the latest in the sub-4-metre bandwagon. The Kiger shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Magnite but looks a tad more handsome due to the distinctly European styling cues. It's also priced quite well, offers many features, a highly spacious cabin with a decent build quality and a good ride. The Renault Kiger is available with two 1.0-litre petrol options - a naturally aspirated and a turbocharged version. While the former is available with an optional AMT, the latter can be bought with a CVT. Prices for the Kiger currently start at INR 5.64 lakh and go all the way to INR 10.08 lakh.

Mahindra Thar

One of the most successful launches in the Indian auto industry in recent years, the Mahindra Thar is a perfect give to your dad if he is the adventurous type. However, you probably will have to wait till the next Father’s Day to actually receive one. Demand for the new Thar so high that the current waiting periods for a new Thar stretches to 12 months, even after Mahindra has increased production by 50%. The second-gen Thar is underpinned by a brand new platform and new powertrain options, with the SUV only sharing the nameplate with its predecessor. With the new Thar’s much better on-road manners and feature-loaded trim levels, it is aimed at being a serious option for a daily driver.

The second-generation Mahindra Thar is priced between Rs 12.11 lakh – Rs 14.16 lakh, ex-showroom. The 4x4 comes with 2 engine options, a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, and a 2-litre turbo-petrol. The oil-burner makes 130 PS/320 Nm of peak figures while the petrol makes 150 PS/320 Nm of max figures. Transmission options for both the powertrains are a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with a low range box and transfer case.

Ford Endeavour

If your Dad is the adventurous type, but the Thar is not big enough for the family, then the Ford Endeavour is a great choice. The Ford Endeavour was one of the first premium SUVs when it launched way back in 2003. Based on the Ranger pickup, the endeavour was the SUV version of the truck and Ford specially developed the vehicle for the Asian market. The second-generation Endeavour was launched in 2015, featuring new powertrains, better ride quality courtesy new suspension, and first in class features.

Prices for the Ford Endeavour range from Rs 29.99 lakh for the base variant to Rs 35.45 lakh for the flagship Sport variant. The Endeavour is powered by a 2-litre turbo-diesel unit which makes 170 PS/420 Nm of peak power and torque figures. It is mated to a 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Endeavour is slated for an update around 2022 at the earliest, as the current generation is only 5 years old.

This was our list of  5 best SUVs for Dads this Father’s Day, which one are you gifting?

Ford Endeavour Modified With Massive 26-inch Wheels - Looks Rad! https://indianautosblog.com/ford-endeavour-modified-26-inch-wheels-p323798 Tue, 08 Jun 2021 06:00:09 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323798 The Ford Endeavour is one of the most revered 4x4 SUVs in our country and it is a true legend in that sense. The Endeavour's butch and unapologetic character has also made it a very popular vehicle in the aftermarket modification scene. In fact, it makes for a great canvas for off-road enthusiasts and 4x4 purists to spec the SUV as per their imagination. Here, we have one such example of a modified Ford Endeavour, but not quite like you'd expect an Endeavour to be modified.

A post shared by Kb Tyres (@kbtyres)

This Ford Endeavour can be seen fitted with 26-inch silver petal-spoked alloy wheels, wrapped in low profile tyres, and it completely changes the look and stance of the Endeavour. As standard, the Endeavour rides of 18-inch wheels, so this is a huge step up to 26-inches. The petal-spoked design is quite stylish and the silver contrasts well with the all-black Endeavor. However, these ginormous wheels do look like an odd fitment on an SUV such as the Endeavour.

These larger wheels will inevitably also have an effect on the ride and handling balance of the car. In fact, the ride quality will be considerably harsher than with stock wheels and the handling will also be altered. It is also worth noting that larger alloy wheels with low profile tyres are much more prone to damage under hard impact at higher speeds over deep potholes. Given the condition of Indian roads, this is something worth keeping in mind when you encounter deep potholes. It must be said that the wheels alone considerably change the look of the car.

Ford Endeavour 26 Inch Wheels Modified 3
These larger wheels will inevitably also have an effect on the ride and handling balance of the car.

Apart from the wheels, there are no other major modifications on this Endeavour. However, the all-black paint on this Endeavour is certainly an aftermarket job as Ford did not offer the option of black color on the Endeavour until the introduction of the Endeavour Sport model. The faux silver skid plates on the front and rear bumpers have also been blacked-out. The chrome-finished grille, door handles and badges on the front fender add a welcome contrast to the all-black theme. This also seems to be a pre-facelift model of the Endeavour, as it misses out on the smoked-out headlamps.

Currently, the Ford Endeavour is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that has been tuned to produce 170hp of power and 420Nm of peak torque. This engine solely comes mated to a 10-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Although gearbox options are very limited in the Endeavour, it must be said that the 10-speed unit is one of the best in its class. It also comes with a full-time four-wheel-drive system. Prices for the Ford Endeavour currently range between INR 29.99 - 36.25 Lakh (ex-showroom) in India.

Next-Gen Ford Endeavour Interior - Here's What You Can Expect https://indianautosblog.com/next-gen-ford-endeavour-interior-p323769 Wed, 02 Jun 2021 13:15:40 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323769 The current-gen Ford Endeavour has been on sale in our market since 2016 and apart from a mild facelift in 2019, the SUV has mostly remained unchanged. Now Ford has been working on the next-gen Endeavour (also known as the Everest in some markets) for some time now, spy shots of which undergoing road tests surfaced on the internet about a week ago. Here we have yet another spy shot of the next-gen Endeavour, this time revealing its interior. Interestingly, most of the interior is not wrapped in camouflage, giving us a full view of the design and the features that could be on offer.

This spy image previews what the interior of the next-gen Ford Endeavour could look like, although some bits and pieces could have been borrowed from other cars.

2022 Ford Endeavour Interior - What To Expect

The first thing that you notice about the interior of the next-gen Ford Endeavour is the twin-screen setup for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, much like the upcoming Mahindra XUV700. This may not be just a co-incidence, as Ford and Mahindra were previously collaborating for development of new products, and Ford might have kept this unchanged from then. More importantly, the interior of the next-gen Endeavour gets a completely new design and feels a lot more upmarket and techy than the current model. In fact, the new-gen model is even rumored to feature certain ADAS features.

Here's an exterior spy shot of the next-gen Endeavour that surfaced on the internet about a week ago.

Apart from the twin-screen setup, the next-gen Endeavour will get a new multi-function steering wheel, an uncluttered yet chunky center console design, a rotary dial for the gear selector, lots of smart storage spaces, plush seats, and plenty of good quality leather and metal trim pieces used all around. The center console also seems to have been positioned considerably higher and central AC vents are sleek, horizontal units (the current model has vertical units). This, however, may not represent the final version as several bits and pieces in this interior could be borrowed from other cars. It must also be said that the interior of the next-gen Endy looks more car-like rather than SUV.

2022 Ford Endeavour Interior - What Else Do We Know?

Underpinning the next-gen Ford Endeavour will be a slightly updated ladder frame architecture that will first be seen on the next-gen Ford Ranger. Incidentally, this is the same platform that Volkswagen is likely to use for the next-gen Amarok pickup, which will be sold in some international markets. Apart from its chassis, the next-gen Endeavour is also expected to share its engine options along with a few body panels with the yet-to-be-unveiled next-gen Ford Ranger. In fact, the four-wheel drive system and the drivetrain will also be shared. There, however, is not much clarity about what could be under the hood of the next-gen Endy yet.

The new Endeavour is likely to be powered by the latest iteration of Ford’s EcoBoost petrol and EcoBlue diesel engines available overseas. This could also be an opportunity for Ford to finally introduce the more powerful 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that's sold abroad with 213hp and 500Nm of torque. The current-gen Endeavour is powered by a single-turbo version of the same engine, producing 170hp and 420Nm torque. The 10-speed automatic transmission will also likely be carried over to the next-gen model. The new Ford Endeavour is expected to see its world premiere by early-2022, followed by its India launch a little later.

Next-Gen Ford Endeavour Imagined As Per Latest Spy Shots - IAB Renders https://indianautosblog.com/next-gen-ford-endeavour-rendering-p323742 Mon, 31 May 2021 12:00:40 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323742 The current-gen Ford Endeavour has been on sale in our market since 2016 and apart from a mild facelift in 2019, the SUV has mostly remained unchanged. Now Ford has been working on the next-gen Endeavour (also known as the Everest in some markets) for some time now, spy shots of which undergoing road tests surfaced on the internet about a week ago. Although the test mule was heavily wrapped in camouflage, it did give us an idea that the new Endeavour will be more of an evolution than a revolution, as far as its dimensions and overall looks are concerned.

Next Gen Ford Endeavour Rendering
Here's a rendering of the next-gen Ford Endeavour based on spy shots of the next-gen model that surfaced on the internet recently.

Based on the recently seen spy images, here we have a rendering of third-gen Ford Endeavour as imagined by our in-house digital rendering artist, Shoeb R. Kalania. In this rendering, the front-end of the next-gen Endeavour seems inspired by the latest F-series pickup trucks. The front fascia of the SUV is now more upright and squarish. The grille and the C-shaped LED headlamps have been designed as an integrated unit with a thick, two-slat chrome bar running in between. In fact, the grille and the headlamp assembly are quite generously garnished with chrome. It also gets a bigger air intake and a redesigned bumper with new fog lights.

In profile, the next-gen Ford Endeavour in this rendering remains quite similar to the current-gen model. It, however, gets much sharper character lines along the sides and the bonnet is very well sculpted as well. The SUV can also be seen wearing much heavier body cladding all around than the current model and even features prominent wheel arch claddings. Although the window line remains mostly similar, it gets new air vents along the front fender. The rear end of the next-gen Endeavour is not seen in this rendering, but it has been spied with a highly raked windshield, a revised tailgate, new rear bumper, sporty-looking roof-integrated spoiler, and a new set of taillights.

Ford Endeavour 2.0 Vs EcoSport 1.5 Diesel, Who Wins? - VIDEO https://indianautosblog.com/ford-endeavour-20-vs-ecosport-15-diesel-who-wins-video-p323570 Tue, 25 May 2021 13:00:11 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323570 Ford currently sells two SUVs in the Indian market in the form of the Endeavour and the EcoSport. While the former competes in the Rs 30 – Rs 40 lakh SUV segment, the latter sits in the highly competitive subcompact SUV class. Both vehicles were among the earliest entrants in their respective segments, the Endeavour launching in 2003 while the EcoSport entered the Indian market in 2012. What this means is that the EcoSport has been on sale for almost a decade without any major changes. On the other hand, the Endeavour currently on sale is the second-generation model for us, which was launched in 2016. Today we have got this rolling start drag race between the Endeavour 2.0 diesel and the EcoSport 1.5 diesel.

The video has been uploaded by AutoWheels India - Cars & Road Trips on YouTube. Instead of the usual standing starts for a drag race, this race between the Ford Endeavour and the EcoSport will use the rolling start method instead. For round 1, the rolling start speed is set at 25 kmph. As soon as the SUVs cross the race start point, the EcoSport jumps ahead. However, the Endeavour manages to catch up and pass the EcoSport to win the race. The second round sees the Endeavour switching off traction control while the rolling start speed has been increased to 35 kmph. Similar to the first round, the EcoSport takes the lead at the start again. Unlike last time though, the EcoSport manages to hold on to the advantage to cross the finish line first.

The drivers of the SUVs have been changed for the third round. The Ford Endeavour gets a better start compared to the previous two and uses its power advantage to comfortably win this round. The final round sees the drivers going back to their original vehicles. The EcoSport again has a better start but the Endeavour starts catching up. However, the EcoSport just manages to keep a marginal lead to win the final round, thereby winning overall as well. Even though the Endeavour is considerably more powerful, the EcoSport is a fair bit lighter. This means that the EcoSport gets off the line better and accelerates quicker. By the time the Endeavour starts catching up with its power, the EcoSport already creates enough of a margin to win the race.

The Endeavour 2.0 in the video is powered by a 2-litre turbo-diesel engine that churns out peak power and torque figures of 170 PS and 420 Nm of peak power and torque figures. The EcoSport is mated to a 5-speed manual while the Endeavour comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Prices for the Ford EcoSport diesel range between Rs 8.89 lakh – Rs 11.69 lakh while prices for the Ford Endeavour range between Rs 29.99 - Rs 36.25 Lakh. Modified Ford Endeavour with Ford F-150 Raptor Body Kit Looks Wicked https://indianautosblog.com/modified-ford-endeavour-f150-raptor-body-kit-p323586 Sun, 23 May 2021 07:00:05 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323586 The Ford Endeavour is one of the most revered 4x4 SUVs in our country and it is a true legend in that sense. The Endeavour's butch and unapologetic character has also made it a very popular vehicle in the aftermarket modification scene. In fact, it makes for a great canvas for off-road enthusiasts and 4x4 purists to spec the SUV as per their imagination. Here, we have a wild example of a Ford Endeavour that has been modified to look like the Ford F-150 Raptor sold abroad.

Modified Ford Endeavour Front Quarter
Here's a modified Ford Endeavour that has been made to look like the Ford F-150 Raptor sold abroad.

A look at the number plate reveals that this Endeavour does not hail from India. In fact, it has the name 'Everest' inscribed on its tail gate, which is what Ford calls the Endeavour in several markets abroad. But name aside, the real highlight of this modified Ford Endeavour is its F-150 Raptor-like look. Sold in American and several European markets, the Ford F-150 Raptor is actually a performance pickup based on the standard F-150 truck. Pickup truck enthusiasts adore the Raptor for its handsome looks and immense capabilities.

The grille and the headlights along with the bumper are an exact replica of the one on the original F-150 Raptor.

On similar lines, this Ford Endeavour has been fitted with an exact replica of the F-150 Raptor's front fascia. That includes the bonnet, the front bumper and even the fenders. This Endeavour gets a more sculpted bonnet, but the biggest highlight have to be that massive Ford grille and the very stylish vertically-stacked LED headlamps with signature LED DRLs. The grille looks particularly imposing with 'Ford' spelt big and bold right in the center, highlighted by LED lights on the top and bottom. It also gets a bumper identical to the one on the Raptor, with additional LED lights and a bash plate down under.

Modified Ford Endeavour Rear Quarter
At the rear, the SUV gets a pair of aftermarket LED tail lights and a more rugged-looking add-on for the rear bumper.

Along with the face, the front fender has also been modified with more cladding and extended wheel arches. And that brings us to the next most important modification on this Endeavour - the wheels. This Endeavour can be seen riding on massive (possibly 24-icnhes), deep dish, blacked-out wheels wrapped in dual purpose tyres. They extend quite beyond the wheel arches, giving it a very menacing look. This Endeavour also comes fitted with a lift kit as is evident from its high riding stance and increased ground clearance. At the rear, the SUV gets a pair of aftermarket LED tail lights and a more rugged-looking add-on for the rear bumper.

Back here in India, the Ford Endeavour is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that has been tuned to produce 170hp of power and 420Nm of peak torque.

Toyota Fortuner Much Quicker Than Ford Endeavour in 0-100 kmph Test https://indianautosblog.com/ford-endeavor-vs-toyota-fortuner-acceleration-test-p323581 Tue, 18 May 2021 09:00:24 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323581 The Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner have been at loggerheads with each other for the longest time in the Indian market. It is one of the most iconic rivalries among mass-market cars in India and admittedly, both SUVs have a huge loyal fan base. So here we have yet another story on the Ford Endeavor vs Toyota Fortuner, this time testing them for their acceleration. This video has been uploaded by Gaadiwaadi on their Youtube channel, testing both the SUVs to see which is quicker to 100 kph and beyond.

But before we get into how they performed, let's first talk about the specifications of both SUVs. The Ford Endeavour is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that has been tuned to produce 170hp of power and 420Nm of peak torque. This engine solely comes mated to a 10-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Although gearbox options are very limited in the Endeavour, it must be said that the 10-speed unit is one of the best in its class. It also comes with a full-time four-wheel-drive system.

The Ford Endeavor is solely offered with a 2.0L diesel engine and a 10-speed automatic gearbox in India.

As for the Toyota Fortuner, it gets two engine options under its hood. There's a 2.8L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 201hp of power. It gets two transmission options - a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. When mated to the manual transmission, the engine produces 420Nm of peak torque. Interestingly, when mated to the automatic transmission, it produces 500Nm of peak torque. The Fortuner is also offered with a 2.7L four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 165hp and 245Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Speed Ford Endeavour 4x4 AT
Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT
0 - 60 kph 5.64 seconds 4.57 seconds
0 - 80 kph 8.76 seconds 6.98 seconds
0 - 100 kph 13.6 seconds 9.88 seconds
0 - 120 kph 20.64 seconds 13.09 seconds
0 - 140 kph NA 17.68 seconds

Here in this test, both SUVs are in their top-spec diesel-automatic guise. As you can see from the table above, the Toyota Fortuner is much faster than the Ford Endeavour at each level of the acceleration test. The Fortuner came into this fight with an advantage on paper and that has clearly reflected in its real-world performance as well. The Fortuner is faster than the Endeavour to 60kph, to 80kph, to 100kph and even to 120kph. In fact, the gap keeps on increasing as the speeds get higher. By the 100kph mark, the Fortuner is nearly 4 seconds faster than the Endeavour.

Toyota Fortuner Front Three Quarters
The Toyota Fortuner is clearly much faster than the Endeavour, largely helped by its advantage on paper.

The Toyota Fortuner even managed a sub-10 second sprint to 100kph, which is really commendable for such a big, seven-seater SUV. By the 120kph mark, the Fortuner has increased its lead to nearly 7 seconds.  So far, the performance has been pretty effortless for the Fortuner, going on to hit 140kph in 17.68 seconds. Meanwhile, the Ford Endeavour was so much slower, that it could not hit the 140kph mark as the driver ran out of road, although the same stretch of road was used for both SUVs. What's even more interesting to note is that the Fortuner is faster to 140kph than the Endeavour is to 120kph. So, if you were to pick either of these SUVs based on their performance, you now know which one to go for.

Top 10 SUVs in India With Best Road Presence - Fortuner, Harrier and More https://indianautosblog.com/top-10-suvs-in-india-with-best-road-presence-p323242 Sun, 25 Apr 2021 11:00:32 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323242 Indians have a special affinity towards SUVs and that can be seen given the rising number of products launched in this segment and also the sheer volume they are enjoying. While practicality is one aspect of owning a SUV, most people are actually looking for the road-presence these cars offer, which not only elevates the whole ownership experience but also elevates the status-symbol, one which SUVs are famous for providing. Hence we list down top 10 SUVs you can buy in India with the best road-presence.

Toyota Fortuner

2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift And Legender
For 2021, Toyota launched the Fortuner with a new facelift and a new Legender variant.

For its 2021 update, Toyota has graced the new Fortuner with a handful of design tweaks making it more appealing in the full-size SUV segment. The 2021 model comes with a new grille, larger ‘inlets’ behind the fog lights, new DRLs on its chin and a wider scuff plate. Meanwhile, there's a new Legender that gets its own unique styling. Shaper and more rakish looking, the narrow ‘grille’ and deep air dam make it look seriously appealing. And the Legender also gets a two-tone paint job.

Ford Endeavour

2020 Bs6 Ford Endeavour
Update after update, the Ford Endeavour has changed very little.

Update after update, the Ford Endeavour has changed very little. The SUV received a mild facelift a couple of years back. Hence, its switch to BS6 does not see any cosmetic changes. With a keen sight, you can spot that the headlamps now get square projector units instead of the round unit from the previous version. That’s because they now hold LED elements! The proud engine badge on the side fender which had the letters ‘3.2’ embossed in bold now just states the name of the SUV. Other than that, everything else is the same.

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross

In India, we will continue with the last-gen Isuzu D-Max V-Cross even with its BS6 update.

While we are still waiting on the 2021 model, the 2019 model facelift is currently on sale with a new front-end design that looked a lot more aggressive than fit the overall persona of the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross a lot better. This new look can be credited to several new elements like the new bumper which is beefier than before and is now complemented by sharper-looking fog lamp housings which get a dash of chrome. The lights also have new L-shaped LED Daytime Running lights which add to the aggressive look even more. Laterally, the car continues with its butch appeal with its 18-inch alloy wheels and a side step-board that sits more flush than before and there’s a new shark-fin antenna that’s included in the package too.

Citroen C5 Aircross

Citroen C5 Aircross Front Quarter Right
Citroen's first product in India is coming via the CKD route and is being locally assembled at Citroen's plant in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.

Citroen’s entry into the Indian SUV segment with the C5 Aircross was a wise choice. In terms of design, the car is dressed to the teeth with elements that stand out in the sea of SUVs in India. For instance, there is no logo stuck or screwed onto the front grille or bonnet; the front grille itself turns into the brand logo. The side body cladding goes notably higher up on the door than we’ve seen on most SUVs as well. In addition to this, it also gets oval accents to make the style stand out more. Even the C-shaped chrome garnish on the window line is a very cool touch, complemented by 18-inch alloys that’d look right at home on a concept car.

The Harrier SUV was the first vehicle to feature Tata’s IMPACT Design 2.0 philosophy. At the front, the car gets a dual-tone bumper with a satin silver chin guard, xenon HID projector headlamps and dual function LED DRLs with turn indicators. The SUV gets flared wheel arches that house 5-spoke alloy wheels. It has a high shoulder line and blacked-out B pillars, while the C-pillar houses a triangular quarter glass. At the rear, the Harrier has a raked windshield, a spoiler and 3D LED taillamps with a sporty piano black finisher. The dual-tone rear bumper gets silver inserts.

MG Hector

The 2021 facelift brings in a set of larger, 18-inch wheels which better suit the stance of the Hector.

The MG Hector pretty much outsizes everything in its class. It comes as the lengthiest SUV with the largest wheelbase amongst its rivals, though the narrow girth and excessive rear overhang do throw proportions off a bit. The 2021 facelift brings in a set of larger, 18-inch wheels which better suit the stance of the Hector. A generous use of chrome means the Hector is big on bling and elements like the split LED DRLs and headlamps set up ensure the MG grabs attention.

Mahindra Thar

2020 Mahindra Thar Front 3 Quarters
The Mahindra Thar now strikes a perfect balance between off-road ability and practicality.

It’s difficult to strike a balance between pleasing the aficionados and making your product a mass-market one. But somehow Mahindra managed to nail it with the new Thar. Every panel is now chunkier, the new 18-inch wheels have been very smartly designed, and the car itself has grown in terms of length (+65mm), width (129mm) and wheelbase (+20mm). But despite all the modern elements, it retains various old-school elements. Even the front grille adds some retro and draws inspiration from the old Mahindra Armada Grand. The base AX variant features a fixed soft top as standard, while the top-end LX can be had with either a fixed hardtop or a convertible soft top. The latter two can be fitted to the base variant as options.

Hyundai Creta

2020 Hyundai Creta Images Front Profile Blue 1
Although striking to look at, the new Hyundai Creta still divides opinion on its styling.

The 2020 Hyundai Creta comes with a brand new design on the outside that falls in line with the same language that began with the Venue. Upfront, there is a massive hexagonal grille that is outlined by a chrome strip that looks a tad too shiny. Then you have the ice cube three-element LED headlamps that look stylish with the LED DRLs sitting on top of them. The boot gets a bulge that makes the rear section look muscular and the black stripe that connects the tail lamps help the Creta look unique. On the sides, the flared wheel arches add some muscle and the sloping roofline makes it look stylish. The alloy wheel design on the diesel car is the usual Hyundai affair - sharply cut and sporty.

Kia Sonet

Kia Sonet Images Front Three Quarters Action 2
Kia will soon roll out an update on the Sonet with new logo and features.

Kia has done a skillful job in burying the same platform that it shares with the Hyundai Venue. It dresses to impress with a large bonnet and stubby rear end. The overhangs on the Sonet are larger than that of the Venue. In the top-rung variants, one is treated to full-LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lamps that double as turn indicators. Elements such as the wide grille (with a sweet knurled chrome outline) and the creases on the hood paired with the flared wheel arches give the Sonet much needed visual muscle. There are some intricate details you’d appreciate, like the chrome surround for the projector fog lamps and the layered pattern on the grille that Kia says is inspired by the stepwells of ancient India.

MG Gloster

Mg Gloster Front 3 Quarters Right
The MG Gloster has a very commanding street presence, thanks to its huge size.

The Gloster is built on MG’s ladder-frame chassis and measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width and 1,875mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950mm. The car was at display during last year’s Auto Expo and a few design cues included an octagonal grille with chrome slats, LED headlamps with DRLs, fog lamps with round chrome bezel and a sculpted bumper and hood. Also on offer are a set of dual-tone alloy wheels, bold shoulder creases, chrome around the window line, chrome door handles, LED tail-lights and roof rails.

MG Gloster vs Ford Endeavour Drag Race, Fight of 2.0L Turbo-diesel SUVs https://indianautosblog.com/mg-gloster-vs-ford-endeavour-drag-race-p323238 Sun, 25 Apr 2021 06:30:21 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323238 The Ford Endeavour was one of the first full-size seven-seater SUVs when it entered the Indian market in 2003. Based on the Ford Ranger pick-up, the Endeavour was specifically developed for Asian markets. As one from a limited selection of full-size SUVs back then, it saw great sales success for over half a decade in the Indian market, usurped only when the Toyota Fortuner arrived in 2009.

Compared to the Endeavour, the MG Gloster is a very new entrant in the segment. Launching after MG made a successful entry in India with the Hector, the Gloster is an SUV you should consider if luxury, features and a commanding street presence are your priority. The Gloster comes loaded to the brim with segment-first features and is even the first vehicle to be sold in India with level 1 autonomous driving capabilities. Today we came across this video that pits the Endeavour against the Gloster in a series of drag races.

The video has been uploaded by Gaadiwaadi.com on YouTube. As you can see, they have pitted the Ford Endeavour 2.0 and MG Gloster against each other in a drag race. To make sure there aren’t any discrepancies, the drag race has been contested in a best-of-three format. First time out, both SUVs get off the line quite well but the Gloster slowly ekes out a lead and wins the race with the Fortuner very close behind.

Mg Gloster Side View
On the other hand, the Gloster is the most recent addition to the full-size SUV segment in India.

The second round sees the Endeavour getting the lead off of the start, but the Gloster catches up and passes by to win again. This time, the gap was even closer. For the third round, the drivers exchange vehicles but the results stay the same with the Gloster winning again, making it a whitewash victory for the MG. This is due to a considerable difference in maximum power and torque outputs between the two SUVs, with both vehicles weighing close to 2.5-tonnes.

Mg Gloster Front 3 Quarters Action
The Gloster is the clear winner in this series of drag races because it is much more powerful and torque-ey than the Ford Endeavour.

The Ford Endeavour’s 2.0-litre turbo diesel churns out 170 PS and 420 Nm of peak power and torque figures and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. In comparison, the MG Gloster on test here came with the 2.0-litre diesel in its twin-turbo configuration, making peak power and torque figures of 218 PS and 480 Nm, respectively. Transmission duties are carried by an 8-speed automatic. Prices for the Ford Endeavour range between Rs 29.99 - Rs 36.25 Lakh while the MG Gloster is priced between Rs 29.98 – Rs 36.08 Lakh. Do note all prices are ex-showroom.

Ford Endeavour vs Toyota Fortuner vs MG Gloster - Braking Test https://indianautosblog.com/ford-endeavour-vs-toyota-fortuner-vs-mg-gloster-braking-test-p323260 Fri, 23 Apr 2021 10:30:27 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323260 The competition in the large-size SUV segment is quite fierce. It consists of cars like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and MG Gloster. While the Toyota Fortuner is the undisputable king of this segment, the MG Glostal is the newest entrant, as it was launched in the Indian market a few months back. All of these SUVs come with powerful engines to lug these heavy-weights around. But how good are their brakes? Here’s a recent brake test video from the YouTube channel of GaadiWaadi, where the test is conducted between all three SUVs. This video shows which SUV among the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the MG Gloster offer the best braking performance.

All three SUVs are offered with four disc brakes along with ABS and EBD. But, the body weight and tyre sizes of these SUVs are quite different. Watch the video embedded below to know which of these three SUVs take the least distance to do 100kmph to 0 kmph.

The Vlogger starts the video by testing the braking capabilities of MG Gloster. He drives the car to 100kmph, and after reaching a pre-decided spot, he applies the brakes. Afterwards, he puts a cone to the point where the SUV came to halt. Then the Youtuber drove the Ford Endeavour and repeated the same process. The Ford SUVs stopped much ahead in comparison to the Gloster. In the end, he tested the braking capabilities of the new Toyota Fortuner and surprisingly, it was slightly ahead of the spot, where Ford Endeavour stopped. This simply shows that Ford Endeavour is the most capable large SUV in terms of hard braking.

The less powerful version of the car develops power and torque output of 163 Bhp and 375 Nm, respectively, whereas the twin-turbo iteration puts out 218 bhp and 480 Nm. Transmission duties are done by an 8-speed AT.

Top 5 4x4 SUVs You Can Buy Under INR 40 Lakh https://indianautosblog.com/top-5-4x4-suvs-under-inr-40-lakh-p323207 Sat, 17 Apr 2021 14:15:22 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323207 The way the SUV segment is growing in India, it is difficult to lose out in this segment if your vehicle is relatively better than other cars. Manufacturers around the world are scrambling for a piece of the pie with new offerings that have pushed the benchmark considerably in recent times. In fact, as per data shared by Tarun Garg- Director, Sales, Service and Marketing, Hyundai India, SUVs, from 13% in 2015 have gained 34% in 2020. But most of these SUVs are not proper off-roaders and are aimed at urban buyers. However, if you are in the market looking to shell out some cash to bring home an SUV that has a 4-wheel drive or an AWD system and falls under INR 40 lakh, here are your 5 best bets:

Ford Endeavour Competes with Tractor in Crazy Tug of War Game https://indianautosblog.com/ford-endeavour-competes-tractor-tug-of-war-p323066 Sun, 04 Apr 2021 09:30:05 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323066 The Ford Endeavour was one of the first premium SUVs in India when it was launched in India. The 4x4 has been specially developed by Ford for the Asian market and is based on the Ford Ranger pick-up. As it was the first one in a then non-existent segment, the Endeavour dominated the sales charts even though it was quite expensive upon its launch in 2003. Though as soon as the Toyota Fortuner landed on Indian shores in 2009, it quickly took over the sales dominance from the Endeavour, and the former has never relinquished it since. The all-new second-generation Endeavour was launched in 2015 that came with an all-new design, more powerful powertrains, better ride and handling, and loaded to the brim with features. Today we came across this video of a second-generation Ford Endeavour having a tug-of-war against a tractor.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 4x4 India ?? (@4x4.india)

The video has been uploaded by 4x4.india on Instagram which shows a tug-of-war between a current-generation Ford Endeavour and a tractor. Being a tool made for farming where you need heavy low-down torque to help pull farming tools through the soil, it would be easy to expect the tractor to win easily. But as soon as the tug-of-war starts, the Endeavour is the one instead which is pulling the tractor. We can see both machines’ wheels spinning, with the Endeavour’s four-wheel-drive working hard to find grip on an admittedly slippery surface. By the end of the video, the tractor just starts to slowly pull the Endeavour towards it, but it is not known who wins at the end. The interesting part in the video is the tractor, which has been modified to fit two huge speakers behind the driver and wear a camo wrap job.

It is mated to a 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Endeavour is slated for an update around 2022 at the earliest, as the current generation is only 5 years old.

All Ford Cars In India To Become More Expensive From April 2021 https://indianautosblog.com/ford-cars-in-india-price-hike-p323001 Sat, 27 Mar 2021 05:00:13 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323001 As the financial year is coming to an end, a lot of manufacturers have announced a price hike across their portfolio that includes the likes of Maruti Suzuki, Renault and Nissan. Now, the latest manufacturer to join the bandwagon is Ford. While an increment in prices is fairly common at the end of the financial year, we suspect it is the ever-increasing input costs that has led Ford to hike the prices of all its models. The new prices will be effective from April 1, 2020.

Best Ford Cars Under 10 Lakh
Ford has announced a price hike across its entire model lineup with effect from April 2021.

Although the manufacturer hasn't announced the exact extent of the price hike, it will vary from model to model. We believe the price hike could be up to 3% for each model. Ford currently has five models on sale in India - Figo, Aspire, Freestyle, EcoSport and the Endeavor. Just some time ago, Ford already hiked the prices of Aspire, Figo, and Freestyle along with a variant rejig. Here's a detailed look at the current price range of each of these models.

Model Price Range
Figo INR 5.64 lakh to INR 8.19 lakh
Aspire INR 7.24 lakh to INR 8.69 lakh
Freestyle INR 7.09 lakh to INR 8.84 lakh
EcoSport INR 7.99 lakh to INR 11.49 lakh
Endeavour INR 29.99 lakh to INR 35.45 lakh

If you have been eyeing any of the Ford vehicles recently, and do not want to pay a higher price from April 2021, you should go ahead and book your Ford vehicle immediately as the carmaker is offering discounts of up to INR 29,000 on all their models. The offers are valid only till the end of March or till stocks last. The benefits include an exchange bonus of up to INR 20,000 and loyal bonus and corporate discounts of INR 5,000 and INR 4,000 respectively.

Ford Ecosport Se Vs Regular Ecosport
The new SE trim loses out on the EcoSport's distinctive tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

In more recent news, Ford recently launched a new SE trim of the EcoSport sub-compact SUV. The biggest talking point about this new trim is its rear tail gate design. The SE trim loses out on the EcoSport's distinctive tailgate-mounted spare wheel, and as such, the entire tail gate is different from the standard model. Incidentally, the new Ford Ecosport SE is actually similar to the version that's sold in international markets like Europe and North America.

Ford has also been prepping a new mid-size SUV for the Indian market that will slot in between the EcoSport and the Endeavor in the carmaker's lineup. This new mid-size SUV was being prepped on the same platform as the upcoming second-gen Mahindra XUV500. However, Ford and Mahindra now having called off their JV, the fate of the Ford mid-size SUV is yet to be decided. Expected to launch sometime in 2022, it will rival the likes of the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV500, and MG Hector Plus.

Can New Tata Safari Attract Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour Buyers? https://indianautosblog.com/2021-tata-safari-vs-toyota-fortuner-p322673 Mon, 01 Mar 2021 02:45:49 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322673 What are the things that typical Indian SUV buyers look for in a vehicle? Let's say, a commanding street presence, some rugged appeal, a potent engine, good mile-munching abilities, good ride quality and lots of space and practicality, right? The new Tata Safari has all this in plenty and then some more. But apart from the SUV itself, one of the other big highlights is its pricing. With introductory prices ranging between INR 14.69 - 21.45 lakh (ex-showroom), it seems to be an extremely good value for money for a proper 3-row SUV. I think the 2021 Tata Safari is truly all the SUV most of you'll ever need. Allow me to elaborate.

With the coming of the 2021 Tata Safari, the full-size SUV segment of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor could potentially be at a threat. If we were to take the Toyota Fortuner as the benchmark of the segment - which it is, at least in terms of sales - the new Safari isn't much smaller than the former in terms of dimensions. The new Safari measures 4,661 mm in length and 1,894 in width. Meanwhile, the Fortuner measures 4,795mm in length and 1,855 mm in width. While the Fortuner is longer than the Safari, the latter is actually wider. Even their wheelbase differs by just 4mm, the Fortuner's being longer.

2021 Tata Safari Adventure Persona Side Profile
The 2021 Tata Safari Adventure Persona has a very daunting street presence that better than even some full-size SUVs.

The 2021 Tata Safari even rides on large 18-inch wheels, just like the bigger SUVs. Opt for the top-spec Safari Adventure Persona and you benefit from a great street presence. So, in terms of a commanding street presence, the new Safari has that in plenty - a huge matter of consideration for an Indian SUV buyer. The next most important thing for a 3-row SUV is the space in the third row. The Safari fares quite decently in terms of space in its third row. You can squeeze two adults in the third row with just about enough room for short journeys.

Okay, it's sure not as spacious as some of the full-size SUVs but it is definitely not far behind. Features like AC vents for the third row and USB charging ports make it all the more livable. As for engine specifications and performance, the new Tata Safari is powered by a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine that produces 168hp of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. Now, even the Ford Endeavor is also powered by a 2.0L diesel engine that produces 168hp and 420Nm of peak torque. What this means is that the Safari isn't really underpowered in comparison to the costlier models.

Tata Safari Seats
The new Safari has a very usable third row of seats which can seat two adults in fair comfort for short journeys.

As for Tata not offering an all-wheel-drive system with the new Safari, the fact of the matter is that very few people actually pay the premium for an all-wheel-drive system. A majority of people buying full-size SUVs often opt for the 4x2 variants, with only a few opting for the top-spec 4x4 variants. Also, these SUVs are mostly used in the city and on highways and are barely taken off-road, thus never requiring a 4x4 system. The 2021 Tata Safari is still more than capable of mild off-roading on trails or broken mountain roads.

Moreover, Tata Motors has said that the Land Rover-derived Omega platform can be adapted to incorporate an all-wheel-drive system and if the market really demands, Tata could go the length to invest in an all-wheel-drive system for the Safari. Until then, we think top-spec variants of the Safari - particularly the Adventure Persona - make for a compelling buy. Moreover, choosing the top-spec Safari over the entry-level trims of large SUVs will even enable you to save a huge deal of money and still have an SUV with all the practicalities and capabilities you'd ever want.

Next-Gen Ford Endeavor To Get A New Plug-in Petrol Hybrid Engine; Will It Come To India? https://indianautosblog.com/next-gen-ford-endeavor-engine-details-p322643 Fri, 19 Feb 2021 09:35:34 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322643 Ford Motor Company has been working on the next generation of the Endeavor (globally known as Everest) for some time now. A test mule of the next-generation prototype had been spied overseas on an earlier occasion. The next-gen Ford Endeavor will boast of completely new exterior and interior styling, but a more fundamental update will lie under its hood. Keeping up with the electrification trends of current times, the 2022 Ford Endeavor will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain under its hood for the first time.

As per a new report by CarExpert, the next-gen Endeavor will be available with three engine options globally. The first will be a 213hp/500Nm 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine that's already offered with the current-gen model in markets abroad. The second will be a 253hp/600Nm 3.0L turbocharged V6 diesel engine. The 3.0L V6 engine is also currently offered with the Ford F-150 in the US. The third engine will be an all-new 2.3L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid system.

This new plug-in hybrid powertrain is expected to produce 370hp and 680Nm of torque. All three engines will likely come mated to Ford's 10-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It is however quite unlikely that Ford will bring the new plug-in hybrid powertrain to India. Previously, there were reports that the next-gen Endeavor will be powered by the new 213hp/500Nm 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine in India. Along with this, Ford will also likely continue with the 167hp/420Nm 2.0L single-turbo diesel engine from the current model.

2022 Ford Endeavour Next Gen Rendering
One of the biggest on the next-gen Ford Endeavor will be a new plug-in hybrid petrol engine but that's unlikely to make it to India.

Ford is also expected to introduce a new off-road focused 'Wildtrak X' variant with the new-gen Endeavor/Everest. While this variant is also unlikely to make it to India, the Wildtrak X will get off-road upgrades such as Bilstein shock absorbers, BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, rock sliders and a standard 4×4 system. Technology, too, will be one of the biggest highlights of the next-gen Endeavor. From spy shots of the 2021 Endeavour seen before, we can tell it will come equipped with a 10.25-inch fully-digital TFT instrument console and Ford's latest version of the SYNC4 infotainment system operated via a 12.3-inch screen.

Ford is expected to globally debut the next-gen Endeavor/Everest sometime in 2022. It could make its to our shores later that year or by early 2023. The undisputed king of the full-size SUV segment in India is the Toyota Fortuner and it was updated very recently with a facelift and an upgraded engine. Ford's answer to the newest version of the Fortuner is thus still some time away. Upon launch, the 2022 Ford Endeavour will also continue its rivalry with the likes of the MG Gloster and the Mahindra Alturas G4.

People at Autobacs India have customized one such second-generation Ford Endeavour and transformed it into a mammoth beast. Let's have a look at this modified Ford Endeavour.

The black-coloured modified Ford Endeavour in question here is one of the first Endeavours in India to get a seven-inch suspension lift kit, which has incredibly raised the stance of the SUV and makes it look huge. The additional things which accentuate its large size even further are 20-inch 10j monster rims which come wrapped with beefy Goodrich MT tires, 8-inch Fender flares and robust-looking monotube with nitrogen sub-tank with 12-step adjustability.

This customized Ford Endeavour has got some cosmetic add-ons too, which make it look dark and wicked. The list of these add-ons includes a Raptor X series body kit all around, while at the front, it gets carbon finished hood, MCC ranger snorkel, X glide roof lights, aftermarket projector headlamps with colour changing DRLs and Ford Raptor grille.

The changes in this custom-built Endeavour are restricted to only the exterior, as the interior cabin, as well as the turbocharged diesel engine of this SUV, has been left untouched. This particular Ford Endeavour is the pre-facelift version which has a 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine (200 PS/470 Nm) coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. In its latest version, the Ford Endeavour gets a subtler 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine (170 PS/420 Nm) mated to a more advanced 10-speed automatic gearbox.
