While the official unveil of the 2021 Tata Safari was slated for January 26, 2021, the company has now released the new Safari 2021 images of the final, production-spec 7-seat SUV. Tata Motors has rolled the first production model off the assembly line at the company's manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra. Bookings for the 2021 Tata Safari are set to commence later this month, and the launch is expected to take place in February.

Tata Motors has released new safari 2021 images

The model that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo was codenamed the Gravitas. In fact, it was first called the Buzzard when it was showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. These first official images of the new Tata Safari confirm that it will be largely similar to the Gravitas concept seen at the Auto Expo. However, there are some key differences to note. The Safari boasts a unique grille up front with Tata's signature tri-arrow motifs finished in chrome. There’s more chrome encasing the split headlight clusters and on the door handles. The Safari also boasts of a new Harbour Blue paint shade but the alloy wheel design remains identical to that of the Harrier.

The rear end of the Safari is completely unique with a full rear-quarter glass, a stepped roof, and a more upright rear section. The tail-gate is completely new and the taillights are slightly different as well. The Safari also gets new roof rails with silver inserts bearing the Safari inscription. The Safari always had to be a genuine 7-seater and Tata says that the upcoming SUV will not have an apologetic third row of seats. There are several elements in the design that nod to the original. The high bonnet, a strong face, the stepped roof, the rear three-quarter glass, and stadium seating - all hark back to the original Safari.

Tata has also added 63mm to the Harrier’s length and 80mm to the height to make way for a decent third row. Just like the Harrier, the Safari too will be based on the Land Rover-derived Omega architecture. Tata Motors has said that the Land Rover Discovery-derived D8 platform can be adapted to incorporate a four-wheel-drive system. Tata has said that based on customer feedback and research, they could actually explore the possibility of a 4x4 Safari sometime in the future. On the inside, the Safari has an Oyster White interior theme, and an ash wood insert for the dashboard.

Tata Motors has rolled the first production model off the assembly line at the company's manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra.

It will come in two seating configurations - a 6-seater with captain seats and a 7-seater with bench seats. Although Tata has not released any official images of the interiors yet, the basic dashboard layout and features list will remain more or less identical to the Harrier. The Tata Safari will be powered by the Harrier's Fiat-sourced 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It will come at a decent premium over the Harrier which is priced between INR 13.84-20.30 lakh and will rival the likes of the MG Hector Plus and the upcoming next-gen Mahindra XUV500.

Yes, you read that right. The iconic Tata Safari nameplate will be making a comeback in India as Tata's new flagship SUV. The model that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo was only codenamed as the Gravitas. In fact, it was first called the Buzzard when it was showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. 2021 Tata Safari Teaser
The production-spec Tata Gravitas will be sold as the Safari in India.

The Tata Safari is an iconic nameplate in India, one that has been around since 1998. It glamourized the lifestyle segment for about two decades before being discontinued in 2020 as we adopted the BS6 norms. Tata Motors have now revealed that this upcoming 7-seat SUV was always conceptualized as the next-generation Safari. The only reason why they did not name the Harrier as the Safari is because it was not a 7-seater. The Safari always had to be a genuine 7-seater and Tata say that the upcoming SUV will not have an apologetic third row of seats. Just like the original, the new Tata Safari has a strong face, a high bonnet, the stepped roof, the rear three-quarter glass and stadium seating. They could also be offering different colors to further set it apart. Tata have also added 63mm to the Harrier’s length and 80mm to the height to make way for a decent third row. Just like the Harrier, the Safari too will be based on the Land Rover-derived Omega architecture.

But here's the thing. While the original Safari was a proper 4x4, the new Safari will be front-wheel driven, at least initially. And that has already put down a lot of fans of the original Safari nameplate. Tata Motors have however assured that the Land Rover Discovery-derived D8 platform can be adapted to incorporate a four-wheel-drive system. Tata have said that based on customer feedback and research, they could actually explore the possibility of a 4x4 Safari sometime in the future. Production-Spec Tata Gravitas To Be Officially Unveiled On January 26, 2021 https://indianautosblog.com/tata-gravitas-unveil-on-january-26-2021-p322174 Wed, 30 Dec 2020 05:30:29 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322174 Tata showcased the Gravitas 7-seater SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year and the company had been rigorously road testing the SUV since then. The homegrown carmaker has now announced that the production-spec Tata Gravitas will be officially unveiled in India on January 26, 2020. It could be followed by a launch around early February 2021. The Tata Gravitas was originally meant to go on sale in India by April 2020 but the pandemic disrupted the natural chain of events. The Gravitas will be Tata's new flagship product and will be their first seven-seater SUV since the Tata Safari.

The Tata Gravitas will be based on the same Omega platform that underpins the Harrier. From the pre-production model seen at the Auto Expo, we know that the Gravitas will almost be identical to the Harrier up front, but that's where the similarities end. The real difference between the Harrier and the Gravitas will be visible in their profile, where the former has been stretched post the C-Pillar. Tata has added 63mm to the Harrier’s length and 80mm to the height. In terms of dimensions, the Gravitas will be 4,661mm long, 1,894mm wide, 1,786mm tall and have a 2,741mm wheelbase. The wheelbase is identical to that of the Harrier.

The Gravitas will boast of a longer rear overhang and a stepped roof along with new exterior paint shades will further differentiate the Gravitas from the Harrier. At the rear, the bumper is slightly different from that of the Harrier with a different design for the reflectors and the silver inserts. Also, the rake of the rear windshield on the Gravitas is more upright than in the Harrier, and that's obviously to free up more headroom for the third row. We expect the Gravitas to be offered in both six-seater captain and seven-seater options with either captain seats or bench seats for the middle row respectively.

Tata Gravitas Auto Expo
The homegrown carmaker has now announced that the production-spec Tata Gravitas will be officially unveiled in India on January 26, 2020.

On the inside, again, the Gravitas will be pretty identical to the Harrier. From what we had seen at the Auto Expo, the Gravitas will get a signature-style oak brown dual-tone dashboard with an 8.8-inch floating infotainment system taking center stage on the dash. The Gravitas will also boast of premium Benecke-Kaliko oak brown leather seat upholstery along with some premium features such as JBL speakers, a 7-inch instrument panel, powered driver’s seat, drive modes, panoramic sunroof and more.

Under the hood, the Tata Gravitas will continue with the same engine option that's offered with the Harrier. That means it will be powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It will however be slower than the Harrier in terms of performance due to the added weight. Tata is also coming up with a petrol engine for the Harrier and that too could make its way under the hood of the Gravitas. It will come at a decent premium over the Harrier which is priced between INR 13.84-20.30 lakh and will rival the likes of the MG Hector Plus and upcoming next-gen Mahindra XUV500.

Tata Gravitas Spied Testing Sans Camouflage For The First Time! https://indianautosblog.com/tata-gravitas-uncamouflaged-spy-shot-p322102 Mon, 21 Dec 2020 07:30:33 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322102 Given the success and popularity the Tata Harrier has enjoyed in India, there's certainly a lot to look forward to for Tata's upcoming seven-seater version of the Harrier. Tata showcased the Gravitas 7-seater SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year and the company has been rigorously road testing the SUV since then. We have reported to you with several spy shots of a heavily camouflaged Tata Gravitas previously but now, a new spy image of the Gravitas has surfaced on the internet. Here, for the first time, we get to see the rear of the SUV without any camouflage at all.

Tata Gravitas Spy Image
Here, for the first time, we get to see the rear of the Tata Gravitas without any camouflage at all.

This leaked image gives us a clear look how the production-spec Gravitas will look like from the rear. Although it is very similar to that of the Harrier, there are some differences in the details. The rear bumper for the Gravitas is slightly different from that of the Harrier with a different design for the reflectors and the silver inserts. In fact, the Gravitas seems to boast of proper dual exhaust tips on either side which particularly looks very cool. Also, the rake of the rear windshield on the Gravitas is more upright than in the Harrier, and that's obviously to free up more headroom for the third row.

The real difference between the Harrier and the Gravitas will be visible in their profile, where the former has been stretched post the C-Pillar. There will be a larger rear-quarter window along with some more design revisions to this area. Elsewhere, the Gravitas looks pretty identical to the Harrier. We could however see some minor changes to the front, perhaps a different detailing for the grille, for differentiating the two SUVs. The Gravitas will continue with the split LED headlamp setup of the Harrier along with a beefy bumper down below.

On the inside, again, the Gravitas will be pretty identical to the Harrier. From what we had seen at the Auto Expo, the Gravitas will get a signature-style oak brown dual-tone dashboard with an 8.8-inch floating infotainment system taking center stage on the dash. From what we had seen at the Auto Expo, the Gravitas had captain seats for the middle row but it will also get a bench seat option, making it a 7-seater. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Tata is also coming up with a petrol engine for the Harrier and that too could make its way under the hood of the Gravitas. The Tata Gravitas could hit showrooms by March 2021 and it could priced at a premium of about INR 1 lakh over the Harrier.

Top 5 Upcoming SUVs In India In 2021 - New XUV500, Gravitas and More https://indianautosblog.com/upcoming-suvs-in-india-in-2021-p321990 Tue, 08 Dec 2020 11:55:40 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321990 The year 2020 was really the year of SUVs in India. With over 20 launches in the last 11 months, more than half of new cars were actually SUVs. And that's no surprise given that the sales charts speak really favorably about SUVs. A new year is just round the corner and we are not getting over this SUV trend anytime soon. So here's our pick of the top 5 upcoming SUVs in 2021 and there are quite a few important ones that should get you pretty excited.

Next-gen Mahindra XUV500

Upcoming SUVs in 2021
This is a rendering of the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 based on spy shots seen so far.

Let's start with what is currently the spy shot king and once again, its a Mahindra. Mahindra will be debuting a brand new generation of the XUV500 next year and it has been completely redesigned from grounds up, just as the new-gen Thar. It will be loaded with tons of fancy new tech, some highlights including a Mercedes-like twin instrument console and even Level 1 autonomous driver assistance features. Under the hood, the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 will be powered by the new crop of petrol and diesel engines that Mahindra debuted with the Thar, possibly in a higher state of tune.

Toyota Fortuner Facelift

2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift Blue Front Quarters
This is the Toyota Fortuner Facelift coming to India as was revealed for Thailand earlier this year.

The Toyota Fortuner is the best selling full-size SUV in the country and also the off-road king of its segment. The current Fortuner has been around for quite a few years and Toyota unveiled the Fortuner facelift for Thailand earlier this year. The facelifted Fortuner will make it to India next year with a much more mature design, but still retaining its  butch character. There however wouldn't be many changes under the hood or inside the cabin, save a few new features. If however, Toyota brings the new top-spec Legender variant of the Fortuner that they unveiled for Thailand earlier this year, there's a lot to look forward to.

Tata Gravitas

Gravitas 660
The Gravitas is essentially a six-seater version of the Tata Harrier but it will remain unchanged mechanically

The Tata Gravitas has long been coming and it is finally expected to debut by early 2021. The Tata Gravitas is one of the most important upcoming SUVs in 2021 as it will take the fight up to the MG Hector Plus and the aforementioned next-gen Mahindra XUV500. The Gravitas is essentially a six-seater version of the Tata Harrier but it will remain unchanged mechanically and in terms of equipment and features as well. There will however be some stylistic changes towards the rear of the SUV as it will have grown longer to accommodate the extra row of seats.

Citroen C5 Aircross

Upcoming SUVs in 2021
Citroen will mark their India entry with the C5 Aircross, which will come to the country as a CKD.

2021 will again see the debut of a new manufacturer in India after Kia and MG Motors debuted in 2019. Citroen will mark their India entry with the C5 Aircross, which will come to the country as a CKD. It will surely be expensive on account of being a CKD (about INR 20 lakh, ex-showroom), it will have very unique interior and exterior styling in its favor to try and grab the attention of the Indian audience. The Citroen C5 Aircross will also be very generously kitted out and will have the option of both petrol and diesel engines under its hood, with manual and automatic gearbox options as well.

Renault Kiger

Renault Kiger Concept Front Right Side
Renault previewed us with this Kiger Concept a few days ago.

The sub-compact SUV segment doesn't stop with the Nissan Magnite but 2021 will see the launch of its sister car, the Renault Kiger. The Renault Kiger is again one of the most important upcoming SUVs in 2021 as it sets its foot in this fiercely competed segment. The Renault Kiger will share the same engines and platform with the Nissan Magnite but will have completely different exterior and interior styling. We have seen a few spy images of the Kiger on test in India and first impressions are that it looks like a jacked up Kwid. If Renault manages to get the pricing as competitive as the Magnite, it will be one of the hottest upcoming SUVs in 2021.

Top 5 Upcoming Tata Motors Cars in India - Altroz EV, Gravitas and More https://indianautosblog.com/top-5-upcoming-tata-motors-cars-in-india-p321880 Thu, 26 Nov 2020 03:00:45 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321880 In recent years, Tata Motors has shown tremendous growth, not only in terms of sales but also the unique product mix they are offering in the Indian market. The indigenous automaker and the largest commercial vehicle maker in the country is now known to manufacture some of the best-looking and safest cars in India, all of which are highly appealing to new-car buyers.

Tata Tiago Exteriors 6

All these factors have led to an upward shift of sales for the Indian brand, who is now the third largest carmaker in the country (as per October 2020 sales), an incredible feat standing right behind Maruti-Suzuki and Hyundai. With products like the Tiago, Altroz, Nexon and Harrier; Tata Motors has managed to tap a wide audience base. Despite the COVID-19 blues, Tata Motors has shown the commitment to launch new-age and youth-friendly products. Here are the top 5 Tata cars expected to launch by next year starting this festive season-

Tata Gravitas

The Tata Gravitas will be the first to launch among other upcoming products from Tata’s stable. While it was earlier anticipated that the Gravitas will be launched this festive season, Tata has not revealed any plans for this 7-seater SUV. The Gravitas was first showcased at the Geneva Motor show and was later unveiled at the New Delhi Auto Expo 2020. The Gravitas is essentially a larger Harrier with a bigger rear overhang to adjust for an additional row of seating. The rest of the design is mostly the same, with some changes to the design including front and side profile.

Tata Gravitas Front Three Quarters Auto Expo 2020

Tata is expected to price the Gravitas at least INR 1 lakh above the price of the Harrier. Powering the Gravitas will be an upgraded BS-VI 2.0-litre diesel engine that is capable of producing 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. In the transmission department, the Gravitas is expected to come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard and 6-speed automatic transmission as an option. Some of the other features of the Gravitas include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 9-speaker audio system, automatic air conditioning, multiple drive modes and a large sunroof.

Tata Altroz EV

Electric Vehicles are becoming increasingly popular in India after finding their space globally. Tata Motors, India’s third largest carmaker, aims to get in on the action as well. After launching the Tigor EV and Nexon EV, they are soon to launch the EV variant of the already-popular Altroz premium hatchback. Inside the Altroz EV, Tata is expected to include features like automatic air conditioning, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and a powerful audio setup by Harman. The design layout will remain the same as the regular model.

Tata Altroz Ev Front Three Quarters At 2019 Geneva

In terms of exterior design, the Altroz EV will get blue accents to highlight the electric powertrain and a new grille without air vents. The Altroz EV is expected to get its power from the same 30 kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack as the Nexon SUV and will have a maximum range of 350km on a single charge. Looking at the 312 Km range of Nexon. Tata will also add drive modes and re-generative braking to expand the driving range. With the Altroz EV, Tata will provide a wall mounted charger and a portable charger for travelling.

Tata HBX

Tata is all ready to launch their premium and stylish entry-level SUV, code-named HBX and rumoured to be christened Hornbill. The small SUV is actually a puffed-up hatchback and goes up against the Mahindra KUV100. It was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and immediately caught people’s attention. For starters, the HBX is expected to come in with a price tag of about INR 5 lakh*, which is a very competitive number in the current market. Pratap Bose, Design Head at Tata already confirmed the model showcased at Expo was almost production ready in terms of design.

Tata Hbx Concept Front Three Quarters

According to reports, the HBX will be fitted with the same 1.2L Revotron petrol engine that is found in the Tata Altroz and Tiago. The engine will generate 86 PS of power along with 113 Nm of torque and will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as a standard option. There will also be an optional 5-speed automatic gearbox included, which might be an AMT unit. In terms of features, the HBX is expected to come with a 7-inch floating touchscreen infotainment setup, as well as drive modes and a Harman-powered premium sound system.

Tata Tiago EV

Like mentioned above, Tata Motors have been at the forefront of increasing the popularity of electric vehicles in India, thanks to products like Nexon EV and Tigor EV. For its future EV products, Tata has shortlisted the Altroz EV, along with the uber-popular Tiago compact hatchback. The Tiago hatchback is known for its design, features and competitive pricing; and it comes as no surprise that Tata has decided to add a battery pack to the small car to make it an affordable EV.

Tata Tiago EV front three quarters at Auto Expo 2018

Powering this car will be a 21.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that offers an impressive 213km driving range on a single charge. The same battery is also utilized in the Tigor EV sold as commercial and personal vehicle. Charging the battery to 100 percent takes about 6-8 hours, while there is also fast charge capabilities that reduce that time to just 1.5 hours. As of now, not much is known about the Tiago EV other than the fact that it is expected to mirror many of the features on the recently-launched Tigor and Nexon EVs.

Tata Altroz Turbo

Last on our list is the Tata Altroz Turbo, the powerful version of the popular Altroz premium hatchback. The Altroz hatch has proved to be a cash cow for Tata Motors and given the kind of interest it is generating, Tata don’t want to reduce any chances of cashing in on its success. While an EV version has been planned, there are rumours that a Turbo variant will be added soon to match the likes of Volkswagen Polo TSI and Hyundai i20 Turbo.

Tata Altroz Xm Front Left

Like its rivals, it is expected that Tata will offer a turbocharged 1.0-litre engine three-cylinder motors with 100+ bhp output and a DCT gearboxto match. The Altroz Turbo will also have design additions to match the performance, including body kit and blackened elements both inside and out. Leaving these changes aside, the Altroz Turbo will mostly bear the same design and cabin layout as the regular Altroz.

However, the festive season alone is not the reason automakers are reporting two-digit growth for the last two months. The pent-up demand for vehicles and falling popularity of public transport also take centre stage to the list of reasons. At the moment, multiple forecasts suggest that the re-surging demand could prove to be sustainable, while a few other believe otherwise.

Top 5 Upcoming Cars Under Inr 15 Lakh In India

Nonetheless, to push the sales further, manufacturers are launching newer products with every passing day and offering laudable offers on existing ones. If you are planning to buy a new new vehicle in the coming months, here are the top 5 upcoming cars that will cost below INR 15 lakh in India.

Nissan Magnite

The Nissan Magnite is the Japanese brand's bet for a spiritual comeback in India. After realigning their business strategy and discontinuing all the products barring Kicks, Nissan has high hopes from Magnite. In terms of design, the compact SUV gets a large grille with a chrome surround, LED headlamps and L-shaped LED DRLs, faux skid plates and chunky wheel arches at the front. The alloy wheels are a dual-tone affair and the tail lamps are full-LED units. Inside the cabin, the Magnite features cruise control, a touchscreen infotainment system with an 8.0-inch display, climate control, rear AC vents, driver’s seat height adjustment and rear armrest.

All New Nissan Magnite Unveil Exterior Design

Powering the car will be the HRA0 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, which delivers maximum power of 100 PS and maximum torque of 160 Nm. The HRAO turbo engine is available with  either a 5-speed manual or X-TRONIC CVT. There's also a NA 1.0-litre engine which will available with just a manual gearbox. Prices for the Nissan Magnite are expected to start at INR 6 lakh*.

Maruti-Suzuki Wagon R EV

Maruti-Suzuki has been testing the electric version of the Wagon R since 2018, where 50 prototypes of the vehicle were put to test. It is believed that the electric vehicle will be sold via Maruti Suzuki’s premium, Nexa dealership outlets. In all likelihood, the Maruti Wagon R EV will get premium features like a large SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a multifunction steering wheel and automatic gearbox with brake regeneration function. Since the electric vehicle is expected to be a premium product offering in India, the vehicle is expected to get an automatic climate control option.

Maruti Wagon R Ev Flag Off Images 1

The Wagon R EV is expected to be offered with a fast charging option that can charge up to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes. It is believed that the company will offer a driving range of up to 200 kms. The new model is likely to be based on the Heartect platform that underpins the current-gen ICE powered Wagon R. The Wagon R EV will be India's largest carmaker's entry in to the EV segment and is expected to be priced around INR 8 Lakh*.

Tata Gravitas

After its success with the Harrier, Tata Motors is now set to introduce the Gravitas 7-seater SUV based on the same philosophy, same engines, features and design. The Gravitas is essentially a Harrier with an extra row of seats and an extended rear overhang to accommodate those seats. On offer would be an 8.8-inch infotainment system automatic AC, dedicated AC vents for third-row passengers, a semi-digital instrument panel with a seven-inch MID (multi-information display) and more. We also expect the Gravitas to feature iRA connectivity suite which made its debut on the facelifted Tata Nexon.

Tata Gravitas Front Three Quarters Auto Expo 2020

In terms of powertrain options, the car will get the same engine as the Harrier. This means that there would be a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine delivering 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes paired to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard with an option of a six-speed automatic gearbox. However, some reports suggest the Gravitas could get a 400 Nm engine. Tata Gravitas will go up against MG Hector Plus and is expected to be priced upwards of INR 15 lakh*.

Mahindra Scorpio

The Scorpio comes from the house that is known around the world for its expertise in high-hauling body types. The Mahindra Scorpio is also among the oldest surviving SUVs of India and still going strong. However, new urban-focused mid SUVs are slowly stealing the thunder from this affordable SUV and for the same reason, Mahindra is all set to launch the all-new Scorpio soon. Spy pictures of the car suggest that the car will be lengthier, taller, wider and will get a larger tailgate for easy ingress and egress.

Mahindra Scorpio 2019

One of the biggest changes will be in terms of mechanicals. The new Scorpio will come with both petrol and diesel engines options. The petrol model will use an all-new 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged motor, while the diesel version will get an updated, more powerful 2.2-litre mHawk unit. The petrol engine will be rated at 150 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The power and torque figures of the updated oil burner could be higher than the existing unit that makes 130 bhp and 320 Nm. The model lineup will come with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic torque converter gearbox options.

Tata Altroz EV

Last on our list is the Tata Altroz EV, which has all the makings of a stylish, affordable and frugal EV. Going by what Tata gave us in the form of Nexon EV, we have hardly any doubt about it. The Altroz EV is not too different from its non-EV version except for an exclusive Teal Blue paint option, electric blue accents around the car, a redesigned front air-dam and the lack of a tail-pipe are the differentiating features on the outside. On the inside, the lack of a mechanical gearbox and gear lever means more space in the front. The centre console is split in two, with a floating cubby space on the dashboard and a gear-selector dial in front of the armrest.

Tata Altroz Ev Front Three Quarters At 2019 Geneva

The powertrain is the same as the Nexon EV, a single 95 kw electric motor which powers the front wheels and draws energy from a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. Tata stated that the Altroz will beat Nexon’s ARAI-certified 312 km range. In terms of charging, 0-80 per cent charge should take about an hour when plugged into a fast charger. Expect prices for the Tata Altroz EV to start from INR 9 Lakh*.

Tata Gravitas Dark Edition Rendered; Here's What The Sporty 7-Seater Could Look Like In Real Life https://indianautosblog.com/tata-gravitas-dark-edition-rendering-p321610 Mon, 21 Sep 2020 12:30:11 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321610 While there is no concrete news about the launch date of Tata Harrier’s seven-seater version, reports citing sources close to the matter have suggested that the Gravitas will be introduced in the Indian market by the end of this year or early next year. Once launched, the SUV will go up against the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector Plus.

Speculations suggest that the car will arrive in several colour options, but unlike Harrier, there won't be the signature Dark Edition as Harrier is more sports inclined SUV and Gravitas is more utility inclined model. Designer Shoeb R Kalania has rendered the Gravitas to show you how the car could look like in the Dark Edition.

As one can notice, the Gravitas Dark Edition comes with a blacked-out front grille alongside a few chrome elements on the front fascia. The black shade is carried to the roof rails, door handles and the ORVMs. Also benefiting from the black treatment are the alloy wheels that look impressive. Shoeb has also added a personal touch by putting a Dark Edition badge below the A-pillar.

The Dark Edition treatment will be carried inside the cabin as well with full black upholstery and trim option to add the sporty touch. The regular Gravitas will get dual colour trim with tan-brown or beige combination with black as in the Harrier.

As against its 5-seater sibling, the Gravitas will measure 63 mm longer and 83 mm wider to accommodate the additional row of seating. It will boast of features including LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED taillights, integrated roof rails, stepped roof, sunroof, updated set of 18-inch alloy wheels and much more. In terms of dimensions, the all-new Tata Gravitas will be 4,661 mm long, 1,894 mm wide and will have a wheelbase of 1,786 mm.

The Tata Gravitas is reportedly set to arrive in 6-seater as well as 7-seater options and will climb to become the company’s flagship offering in India. Mechanically, we expect the car to arrive with a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that puts out 168 hp and 350 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options in the car will include a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This is the same engine that powers the 2020 Tata Harrier.

Upcoming Tata Gravitas spied, certain exterior & interior features revealed https://indianautosblog.com/tata-gravitas-spy-shots-exterior-interior-p321526 Mon, 07 Sep 2020 05:45:30 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321526 The Tata Gravitas was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 in February this year. Since then, the test mule of the 6-seater version of the Tata Harrier has been sighted several times. The upcoming SUV has been spotted yet again and this time the spy shots reveal certain exterior and interior features of the new car.

Tata Gravitas Spy Shot Front Lt
While the latest Tata Gravitas test mule spied wears heavy camouflage, we can still spot some of the key exterior features.

Tata Gravitas Exterior

The Tata Gravitas will be based on the company’s OMEGA Arc platform and thus, will come equipped with many aesthetic features that can also be found on the Harrier SUV. However, the Gravitas will be longer and taller than its 5-seater sibling.

While the latest Tata Gravitas test mule spied wears heavy camouflage, we can still spot some of the key exterior features. For example, the front end of the upcoming Gravitas will have the same lighting layout that we have already seen in the Harrier. So the LED DRLs are mounted high up whereas the primary headlights sit lower. The cascading grille with honeycomb mesh is also visible in the spy shots.

The side profile of the new Gravitas is kept busy by the square wheel arches, black body cladding, and roof rails. Also, the large alloy wheels add the missing masculinity. The rear end features large taillight clusters, most probably LED units, and a roof-mounted spoiler.

Tata Gravitas Interior

Just like the exterior, the interior of the Gravitas borrows several features from that of the Harrier. The overall layout is quite identical with a large floating-type infotainment system sitting in the middle of the dashboard. It is likely to offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity options. We can also spot the 3-spoke steering wheel with various mounted controls and some wood treatment on the dashboard.

The new Tata Gravitas SUV is likely to get the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that also powers the Harrier, in which it produces 168 bhp of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. Tata Motors is expected to provide a 6-speed manual transmission along with an optional 6-speed automatic torque converter.

While Tata Motors has not released any information regarding the launch of the new Gravitas, speculations say that the upcoming 6-seater SUV will be introduced in India this year itself.

Tata Harrier Petrol And Tata Gravitas Spied Together; Launch End Of 2020 https://indianautosblog.com/tata-harrier-petrol-and-tata-gravitas-spied-together-launch-end-of-2020-p321356 Sun, 09 Aug 2020 05:45:29 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321356 Inline with its goal of keeping its model lineup fresh and relevant, Tata Motors has a few launches planned for this year. After freshening up the Tata Altroz lineup, it is not focusing on the Tata Harrier petrol and the larger, 6- and 7-seater Tata Gravitas. The former was updated in December 2019 and the latter made its premiere at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.  In a new set of spy pictures, both models can be seen parked next to each in full-camouflage setup and the difference in sizes is obvious.

Tata Harrier And Gravitas Spotted Together With Ca

Starting with the Tata Harrier petrol, the upcoming SUV is likely to be fitted with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. While there are no official reports, we expect a peak power output of 168bhp and 250-270Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will be similar to what is offered with the diesel variants - a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. With prices of the diesel going up and in some states, surpassing that of petrol prices, Tata Motors is aiming to appeal to those buyers who purely want a petrol-powered SUV. Another benefit of adding a petrol engine to the lineup is a lower entry point for buyers wanting to pick up a brand-new Tata Harrier

Tata Gravitas Spotted With Camouflage

If we talk about the Gravitas, the SUV was planned by Tata Motors from the offset and was first showcased at the Geneva Motor Show, eventually premiering in India at the 2020 Auto Expo. From the pictures, it is easy to see that the Tata Gravitas is larger than the Harrier. When it comes to numbers, it measures 4,664mm in length, 1,894mm in width and 1,789mm in height. Compared to the Tata Harrier, it is 63mm longer, 72mm wider and sits 80mm higher. However, the wheelbase remains the same at 2,700mm.

The upcoming Tata Gravitas is based on the same Omega ARC platform as the Harrier and will also carry two engine options - a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol. Output too will remain the same, 170bhp/350Nm for the former and 170bhp/250-270Nm for the latter. We expect the Tata Harrier petrol to be launched around this year’s festive season and the launch of the Tata Gravitas to follow in early 2021.

All-new Tata Gravitas Six-Seater SUV Launch Delayed Till Early-2021 - Report https://indianautosblog.com/all-new-tata-gravitas-six-seater-suv-launch-delayed-till-early-2021-p321283 Thu, 30 Jul 2020 04:15:00 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321283 When the Tata Harrier was launched, the car maker always had plans of a larger, 6-seater variant in the pipeline. Eventually the teasers started rolling and it was come to be known as the Tata Gravitas. After a long wait, Tata Motors finally showcased the all-new Tata Gravtas at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo, and had plans to launch the new 6-seater SUV by the summer. However, those plans were pushed back to the 2020 festive season and now we have learnt that those plans have been scrapped as well. According to a new report, Tata Motors is now planning to launch the Tata Gravitas in early 2021.

Tata Gravitas Front Three Quarters Auto Expo 2020

The delay in the launch of the all-new Tata Gravitas should not come as a surprise to any reader. We can blame the ongoing pandemic, and as a result, Tata Motors has chosen to focus on sales of its current line-up rather than invest its energy and resources into an all-new product for now. Even suffering from ongoing supply chain constraints, Tata Motors has decided that it it just not the right time for a new launch. Also adding to the delay is the fact that the all-new Tata Gravitas will be aimed at the urban buying population, which is currently witnessing a decreased buying sentiment in these challenging times. There have many job losses and even more pay cuts, all of it leading to a futile period in the Indian automotive scenario.

Tata Gravitas Dashboard Side View Auto Expo 2020

The all-new Tata Gravitas has been developed on the company's Omega ARC platform, similar to the Harrier. Under the hood, the Tata Gravitas will feature a 2.0-litre FCA-sourced turbo diesel engine, capable of developing 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. In terms of dimensions, the Tata Gravitas is 63mm longer, 72mm wider and 80mm taller than the Harrier. If we speak of features, the Tata Gravitas will boast similar, if not higher, level of tech as the Harrier. Highlights will include a touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, sem-digital instrument console and auto-dimming IRVM.

Tata’s new flagship makes its Indian debut at the Auto Expo 2020. The Tata Gravitas will be launched in the H1 FY2021 (April-September 2020).

The Tata Gravitas is essentially the three-row version of the Harrier, which is evident from familiar exterior design. The front fascia with the split headlamp layout comprising daytime running LEDs above and projector headlights with fog lamps below, wide front grille and muscular-looking bonnet are shared with the Tata Harrier.

However, from the sides, the Tata Gravitas has its own individualistic design, with a completely redesigned rear three quarter portion and distinctive looking roof rails. The rear too looks different from that of the Harrier with a more rounded stance and distinctive tail lamps.

Tata Gravitas Captain Seats Auto Expo 2020

The interior of the Tata Gravitas is similar to that of the Tata Harrier. The three-row model has a different upholstery colour. The cabin is packed with features like a free standing 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multi functional steering wheel with cruise control, panoramic sunroof, AC vents for all three rows and electrically adjustable driver’s seat and push-button start with keyless entry. There will be an option to get this model as a six-seater with two captain seats or a seven-seater with split-bench seat. The model on display at Auto Expo 2020 is a six-seater.

Even the powertrain of the Tata Gravitas is shared with the 2020 Tata Harrier. The 2.0-litre Kryotec170 turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque is standard in the three-row family SUV. It will be available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

Tata Gravitas Third Row Seats Auto Expo 2020

The new Tata Gravitas will now be positioned as the flagship product in the lineup of Tata Motors in India and will be pitted against the likes MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500. The Honda CR-V falls in a much pricier segment. The same will be the case for the upcoming VW Tiguan Allspace.

The 6-seat Tata Gravitas also will likely be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020.

As seen in the spy shot below, the 6-seat Tata Gravitas will feature two captain seats in the second row. Though the exteriors are hidden under camouflage, it isn't hard to figure out that they would be no different from those of the 7-seat version. Its front-end will have the Tata Harrier's face with the high-raised DRLs and lower mounted headlamps. Just like its 7-seater iteration, the differences will be seen with a longer body, an upright tailgate with a roof spoiler, roof rails, 18-inch alloy wheels and tweaked tail lamps.

In terms of dimensions, the 6-seat Tata Gravitas will be the same as the 7-seat Tata Gravitas, and be 63 mm longer (4,661 mm) and 80 mm taller (1,786 mm) than the Tata Harrier. The width will be the same as that of the donor model - 1,894 mm. It will use a stepped roof for more headroom for the third-row passengers. The interior design of the 6-seat and 7-seat versions should be the same.

2020 Maruti Vitara Brezza (facelift)

The game-changer of the sub-four metre SUV segment, Maruti Vitara Brezza, is all set to receive its first proper facelift. The visual changes will be mild in the form of revised front and rear bumpers, new, LED headlamps, tweaked tail lamps and machined alloy wheels and a couple of additional interior features.

However, the big changes will be under the bonnet, as unlike the currently available Vitara Brezza, the new model will be sold with a petrol engine only. In this case, it will be the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol with (optional) 12V mild-hybrid tech and the choices of 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearboxes.

2020 Hyundai Creta

The biggest stalwart for Hyundai, the Creta, will enter into the second generation with comprehensive updates to each and every aspect. The Indian-spec 2020 Hyundai Creta will be based on the 2020 Hyundai iX25. However, it will come with few visual tweaks to front and rear, with different alloy wheels as well.

1. Near-production Tata H2X (Hornbill)

First revealed as a radical concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Tata H2X is now being tested on the roads in production form. It will be a direct rival to the Mahindra KUV100 and the Maruti Ignis. It will reportedly have over 70% commonality with the Tata Altroz. Powering the Hornbill will be the Altroz's 86PS/113 Nm BS-VI 1.2L naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine. Tata Motors will likely launch it in H2 2020.

Tata Gravitas automatic spied for the first time https://indianautosblog.com/tata-gravitas-automatic-spied-ahead-auto-expo-2020-debut-p319334 Sat, 04 Jan 2020 10:50:09 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319334 Tata Motors is readying an automatic transmission for the Harrier  and the Gravitas, and it will introduce the same in the latter first. Today, the first spy shots of the Tata Gravitas fitted with an automatic transmission have surfaced online, courtesy GaadiWaadi.com.

The Tata Gravitas will be available with the same automatic transmission.

Tata Motors has struck a deal with Hyundai to supply an automatic transmission for the Harrier and Gravitas. This will be a 6-speed torque converter unit. Sure, it could've sourced a DCT or a more sophisticated torque converter automatic transmission from FCA, but both of them would have been way too expensive.

Based on the Harrier, the Gravitas appears to be dramatically similar to the former and that's because it is just a product extension (7-seat) of the Tata Harrier and not actually an entirely separate model. The interior design is unlikely to be much different from the donor model, although one can be sure to expect a few more comfort and convenience features.

In terms of exteriors, the Tata Gravitas will look noticeably different only from the C-pillar. Apart from its longer length, the key differentiators will be the stepped roof upright tailgate with a roof spoiler, roof rails, larger, 18-inch wheels (but not for long) and its tweaked rear-fascia.

As far as the mechanicals are concerned, the Tata Gravitas will employ a 170 PS version of the 2.0-litre Kryotec turbo-diesel engine. The torque output of this engine will be the same, though - 350 Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission will be the basic offering along with this engine. An AWD system is unlikely to be available at launch.
