The latest enhancements to these product lines include new equipment features and assistant systems, usually exclusive to higher vehicle classes. Additionally, the carmaker has substantially increased the use of sustainable materials in both models.

The compact models’ success stories continue

Since the introduction of both models in 2019, over 260,000 units of the Scala have rolled off the production line, with more than 56,000 produced in 2023 alone. The Kamiq city SUV saw over 107,000 units produced in 2023, making it the brand’s best-selling SUV with more than 576,000 units built since its launch.

The first generations of the Škoda Scala and Kamiq garnered significant acclaim. The Scala clinched a Red Dot Design Award in 2019 and was named Family Car of the Year 2020 in the UK and Fleet Car of the Year 2021 in the Czech Republic. Similarly, the Kamiq earned accolades such as Car of the Year 2019 in Finland, Fleet Car of the Year 2021 in the Czech Republic and Best Import SUV below €30k in Germany in both 2022 and 2023. These prestigious awards underscore the models’ appeal and quality in their respective segments.

New design, interior and assistance systems

The latest updates to the Škoda Scala and Kamiq represent a significant step forward in terms of design and equipment: Matrix-LED headlights are now available for both models, while the front and rear bumpers, rims and radiator grilles have been revamped. These changes enhance the distinctiveness of both cars, with the Scala offering a sportier look and the Kamiq becoming a more rugged SUV. Reflecting the brand’s new design language, the fifth door of both models proudly displays the new Škoda logotype. Additionally, more sustainable materials have been incorporated into various parts of the vehicles, such as upholstery and floor mats, reinforcing Škoda’s commitment to further reducing its environmental impact.

Safety features and modernisation

The Škoda Scala and Kamiq maintain a high level of active and passive safety thanks to their robust body structures and advanced assist systems. The range of assistance features, typically only found in higher vehicle classes, has been expanded to include Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitor and Lane Assist.

As part of the upgrade, the Czech automaker also revamped the feature structure for both models, one highlight being the new Phone Box with wireless charging and cooling plus fast-charging USB ports. Customers now have a choice of six interior variants across three equipment lines: Selection, Top Selection, and Monte Carlo.

Both models are sold in more than 60 markets worldwide. The new Scala and Kamiq will be available at Škoda partners in the Czech Republic starting in February 2024.

New Skoda Scala and Kamiq Design Details Revealed via New Sketches https://indianautosblog.com/new-skoda-scala-and-kamiq-design-details-revealed-via-new-sketches-p326079 Tue, 25 Jul 2023 12:10:00 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=326079 Ahead of the digital world premiere of the refreshed Skoda Scala and Skoda Kamiq, the Czech automaker is releasing a series of design sketches that showcase the updated front end and headlights.

New Skoda Scala And Kamiq Headlight Design

Four years on from their initial production launch, Škoda Auto is introducing upgrades for its compact model and the city SUV that incorporate technical enhancements and a rejuvenated look.

The reshaped Scala headlights now extend to the grille. Strips of daytime running lights in the front headlights converge on both the lower and upper edge of the headlights, curving on the outer edge to create a distinctive new light signature.

New Skoda Scala And Kamiq Headlights

The design of the Kamiq’s headlights has also been updated. The upper element of the signature split headlights is now slimmer and has an even more pronounced design. The main headlights beneath have grown in size and house the optional TOP LED Matrix headlights with distinctive hexagonal Matrix modules, available for the first time for the Kamiq as well as the Scala.

The digital world premiere of the refreshed Škoda Scala and Škoda Kamiq is slated for 1 August 2023.

Skoda Kamiq spied in India again, being tested for Skoda Vision IN launch - IAB Report https://indianautosblog.com/skoda-kamiq-spied-india-skoda-vision-launch-p320908 Mon, 15 Jun 2020 05:03:00 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320908 The Skoda Kamiq has been spied in India again. Some media reports are spreading false rumours that it will be launched in India. It’s actually being used to prepare the Skoda Vision IN for launch in the country.

Skoda Kamiq Rear India Spy Shot
The Skoda Vision IN is essentially a Skoda Kamiq spin-off.

The Skoda Vision IN is essentially a Skoda Kamiq spin-off. Now, there are two Skoda Kamiq SUVs existing internationally, one developed for China that came out earlier and the other developed for Europe. The Chinese model sits on an older PQ-series platform. The European model, on the other hand, rides on the newer MQB A0 platform. The Skoda Vision IN is a derivative of this SUV, with market-specific changes to the design and platform.

Compared to the European Skoda Kamiq spied in India again, the Skoda Vision IN has a more rugged exterior design with higher ground clearance and a tougher design, especially at the front. The interior is likely to be more similar, though. The platform of the Indian SUV is MQB A0 IN, a low-cost version of the MQB A0 platform.

Eu Spec Skoda Kamiq Front Three Quarters
The Skoda Kamiq is considered too soft and car-like and is not suitable for India.

Besides cost-cutting measures, the MQB A0 IN platform is being designed to adapt to various other market-specific requirements, like the temperature range of the air-conditioning for instance. The MQB A0 IN platform will also offer a longer wheelbase for more space for the rear-seat occupants, of 2,671 mm. For reference, the European Skoda Kamiq’s wheelbase measures 2,651 mm.

Skoda will likely sell the production Vision IN with 1.0-litre TSI (110 PS/175 Nm) and 1.0-litre TSI EVO (150 PS/250 Nm) turbocharged petrol engines and 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic transmissions. LED headlights, LED tail lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster, 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected vehicle services, wireless phone charger and six airbags are among the expected main features.

Skoda Kamiq spied on test in India once again https://indianautosblog.com/skoda-kamiq-spied-on-test-in-india-for-the-first-time-p319061 Tue, 03 Dec 2019 13:01:54 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319061 Skoda has a number of new upcoming products for the Indian market and a Kamiq-like premium B-SUV is one of them. The Kamiq was spotted during road tests in India not long back, and now it is again in the headlines thanks to Overdrive's spy shots. It was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

Skoda Kamiq 1
The Skoda Kamiq will be the first product to roll out of the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 programme.

The Kamiq is the smallest SUV from Skoda. It won't be launched in India, but the first product from the 'India 2.0 Plan' will be related to it. It's probably here for component testing. The lack of camouflage further strengthens our speculation that the Kamiq isn't being tested in India to launch it. It's likely being tested for one of its engines, perhaps the 1.5L TSI Evo unit.

The Skoda Kamiq is originally built on the VW's MQB A0 platform, while the India-specific model will make use of the relatively economical MQB A0 IN platform. Its length will span up to 4.2 - 4.3 metres which will be at par with the Hyundai Creta. Also, the India-specific model will use a larger wheelbase which will help Skoda to carve out greater interior space. In terms of exteriors, it will look more masculine and traditional SUV-like proportions.

In terms of interiors, the India-specific Skoda SUV will likely feature a large 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, eSIM for connected vehicle technologies, electrically adjustable front seats, 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster and much more.

Skoda Kamiq MQB A0 IN SUV to be launched in India in 2020 - Report https://indianautosblog.com/skoda-kamiq-mqb-a0-suv-launched-india-2020-p318920 Thu, 14 Nov 2019 08:34:33 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=318920 Skoda will launch its Kia Seltos rival in India in 2020, and it will be called Kamiq only, reports ZigWheels. Interestingly, the Euro-spec B-SUV was spied in India just earlier this month, and that too without any camouflage.

Even though the European Skoda Kamiq was spied in the same design in India earlier this month, we believe there will be some changes in the looks department.

Even though the European Skoda Kamiq was spied in the same design in India earlier this month, we believe there will be some changes in the looks department. That’s the only logical explanation behind Skoda planning to showcase the Indian-spec Skoda Kamiq in a concept form, even though just a near-production one, at Auto Expo 2020.

Skoda’s B-SUV for Europe, called the Kamiq, sits on the MQB A0 platform. The company’s B-SUV for India was expected to be a derivative of the European Kamiq, one with a tougher design and a more aggressive stance to better suit Indian customers. The latest development confirms that regardless of whether the Indian Skoda B-SUV ends up looking the same as the European Skoda B-SUV or not, it will have the same name.

The Indian-spec Skoda Kamiq will sit on a modified version of the MQB A0 platform called MQB A0 IN. The modifications made to the platform will make the vehicles based on it more suitable for our climate conditions but will include some cost-cutting too.

The Indian-spec Skoda Kamiq will reach the showrooms in the second half of 2020. It will likely be offered with 115 PS 1.0L TSI and 130 PS 1.5L TSI evo turbocharged petrol engines at launch. At a later stage, a 1.0L TGI turbocharged petrol-CNG may join these options. 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic will be the transmission choices. An AWD system won’t be available.

The Skoda Kamiq could be priced from around INR 11 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.

Skoda Kamiq spied in India for the first time https://indianautosblog.com/skoda-kamiq-spied-india-first-time-p318870 Thu, 07 Nov 2019 10:30:17 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=318870 Apart from the next-gen Octavia and the facelifted Superb, Skoda has a few more surprises down the belt for the Indian market. The much anticipated Skoda Kamiq has been spied getting tested on the country roads for the very first time. It was also showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

Skoda Kamiq Front Spied
The Skoda Kamiq will be the first product to roll out of the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 programme.

For the uninitiated, the Kamiq is the smallest SUV from the house of Skoda, and the spied test mule seems to be the Euro-spec version of the same. It is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 platform, while the Indian-spec model will be undoubtedly based on the MQB A0 IN platform. It will measure somewhere between 4.2 - 4.3 metres in length, pretty close to the Hyundai Creta and is expected to feature a slightly longer wheelbase than international versions. This will enable Skoda to carve out slightly more space on the inside as per the Indian market demand.

As for the exteriors, its overall design will remain pretty close to the already available international-spec Kamiq. The Indian-spec model will flash more extensive use of chrome and is expected to look sassier in comparison to its international counterpart.

Inside, expect the Skoda Kamiq to feature a large 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment screen placed on the centre dashboard (as seen below).  To make the package more desirable amidst the stiff competition, the company will likely give the Indian-spec Kamiq a host of comfort and convenience features such as a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, electrically adjustable front seats, adjustability for the rear seats with reclinable backrests and much more. Mechanically, the details remain scarce, but the SUV is expected to be offered with turbo-petrol engines along with a CNG option which is also highly likely for India.

The Skoda Kamiq will be the first product out of the Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 programme. At the same time, Volkswagen will also launch a similar SUV which will spawn out of the Skoda Kamiq. Later, the MQB AO IN platform will be used for a number of new products for both the brands. The competition is already stiffing up in the B-SUV segment with the arrival of Kia and MG, and by the time Volkswagen's version of the Kamiq arrives, Toyota and Suzuki will also be ready with a competitor in the same segment.

Skoda “genuinely” considering coupe SUV for India - Report https://indianautosblog.com/skoda-genuinely-considering-coupe-suv-india-p318755 Fri, 25 Oct 2019 05:52:18 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=318755 China will have a Mazda CX-4 killer next year - the Skoda Kamiq GT. Skoda had teased this coupe SUV earlier this week, and in the latest, it has come to light that a similar coupe SUV for India is being considered.

Skoda Kamiq Gt Front Three Quarters Sketch
The Skoda Kamiq GT will be exclusive to China.

Skoda’s Director – Sales, Service & Marketing in India, Zac Hollis, is sort of holding a pre-consumer clinic on Twitter, in what we believe is quite a bold move. Hollis tweeted photos of the Skoda Kamiq GT’s teaser sketches and asked publicly if India wants it. Then, in response to a tweet, he said that he’s “genuinely looking for feedback”. This means that the company could launch a coupe version of the (Euro-spec) Kamiq-derived MQB A0 IN SUV that’s already confirmed.

The Skoda Kamiq GT is the production version of the Skoda Vision GT concept that was introduced at the 2019 Shenzhen International Auto Show just back in June. Just like the Skoda Kodiaq GT, the Skoda Kamiq GT will be exclusive to China. It will have its world premiere on 4 November 2019 in Tianjin. It has been designed by SAIC Skoda and Skoda.

Compared to the European Skoda Kamiq that broke cover this year, the Chinese Skoda Kamiq is less appealing in terms of design and based on the older, PQ25 platform instead of the MQB A0 platform. The teaser image suggests that the GT version will be based on the European SUV, though. It will have a more steeply raked back glass.

The Skoda MQB A0 IN SUV will be unveiled in a near-production concept form at Auto Expo 2020. It will be launched in India as early as in late 2020. Its coupe version, if given the green signal, won’t be coming to showrooms at least until 2022.

MQB A0 Skoda Kamiq debuts at 2019 Geneva Motor Show https://indianautosblog.com/mqb-a0-skoda-kamiq-officially-revealed-ahead-of-geneva-debut-p316561 Wed, 06 Mar 2019 04:26:57 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=316561 The MQB A0 Skoda Kamiq has made its world debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Here are its live images from the event.

Skoda Kamiq Front Three Quarters At 2019 Geneva Mo
The Kamiq name originates from the language of the Inuit people living in northern Canada and Greenland. It means something that sits perfectly.

The EU-spec Skoda Kamiq is a completely different animal compared to the Chinese SUV we saw last year. With the European model, the Czech automaker has “rigorously advanced” its SUV design language, says Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design.

The EU-spec Kamiq is the first Skoda to feature split LED headlights with daytime running lights that (in the full-LED version) appear like four gemstones above the main headlights. While the Scala has dynamic indicators only at the rear, this SUV features them even at the front.

While the split headlamps show off the SUV’s trendy nature, the familiar design of the wide grille with double slats and the wide air intake lets onlookers know it’s undoubtedly a Skoda. A rugged underbody spoiler emphasises its off-road character. Looked from the sides, the low and flat betline isn’t the most appealing aspect of the SUV, as it gives it a soft, car-like appearance.

The rear-end is very masculine, and arguably the most SUV-like angle of all. The interplay of the concave tailgate with straight lines and the rakish back glass make it very interesting. The L-shaped LED lights form the brand-typical C-shape when seen with the light reflectors below. In the lowermost portion, a diffuser underscores the powerful appeal of the SUV.

The interior of the EU-spec Skoda Kamiq is a straight lift from the Skoda Scala. Key features include 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit, Amundsen infotainment system with a free-standing 9.2-inch touchscreen, Suedia microfiber seat upholstery, heated seats (front and rear), steering wheel and windscreen, ambient lighting (white, red & copper) and 405-watt, 10-speaker Skoda sound system.

Like the Skoda Scala, the EU-spec Skoda Kamiq sits on the MQB A0 platform. It is 4,241 mm long, 1,793 mm wide and 1,531 mm high. Its wheelbase spans a length of 2,651 mm. The boot capacity is 400 litres, expandable to 1,395 litres on folding down the rear seats. Moreover, it is also possible to fold down the front passenger’s seat back for making room for longer items up to 2,447 mm.

There are five engine options to select from, all direct-injection units with a turbocharger. They come with brake energy recovery as well as Stop/Start technology. Below is the list of the engines and transmissions:

  • 1.0L TSI three-cylinder petrol, (95 PS/175 Nm), 5-speed MT
  • 1.0L TSI three-cylinder petrol (115 PS/200 Nm), 6-speed MT/7-speed DSG
  • 1.5L TSI four-cylinder petrol (150 PS/250 Nm), 6-speed MT/7-speed DSG
  • 1.6L TDI four-cylinder diesel (115 PS/250 Nm), 6-speed MT/7-speed DSG
  • 1.0L G-TEC three-cylinder petrol-CNG (90 PS/160 Nm), 6-speed MT

An all-wheel drive system isn’t available, and so, the power is directed to solely the front wheels in all cases.

MQB A0 Skoda Kamiq spied almost completely undisguised [Video] https://indianautosblog.com/mqb-a0-skoda-kamiq-spied-almost-completely-undisguised-video-p316349 Fri, 08 Feb 2019 09:29:24 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=316349 The EU-spec Skoda Kamiq was recently spied testing almost completely undisguised in Czech Republic. The new sub-compact SUV will have its world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

While we have seen the rear-end and the profile of the Skoda Kamiq in a previous sighting before, this is the first look at the front-end. The design is very close to that of the concept it has evolved from - the Skoda Vision X.

The brand-typical grille with double vertical slats is flanked by split headlights designed in a way that they stress the robust nature of the SUV. The upper lighting units feature daytime running lights and indicators that are likely to have a sweeping effect, and below them, are the main lights with the dipped and high beam. The wide lower air intake with a honeycomb structure in the sharp bumper is a signature Skoda design cue.

The EU-spec Skoda Kamiq is likely to influence the design of the made-for-India Skoda premium B-SUV, which ride on the MQB A0 IN platform instead of the MQB A0 platform. The Indian-spec version will look more masculine in order to give the impression of a proper SUV. In addition to stronger proportions, it will have higher ground clearance. It may end up having a slightly bigger body, as is the case with the Indianised Nissan Kicks.

The EU-spec Skoda Kamiq has a wheelbase of 2,651 mm, 2 mm longer than the Skoda Scala, but its rear kneeroom is the same (73 mm). There’s 400 litres of luggage space in the boot, expandable to 1,395 litres on folding down the rear seat backrests. The interior design is the same as that of the Skoda Scala, and the same is expected in case of the engine options.

Skoda Kamiq interior officially revealed https://indianautosblog.com/production-skoda-vision-x-teaser-p316078 Thu, 07 Feb 2019 11:36:56 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=316078 Skoda has revealed the interior of the Kamiq, the production version of the Vision X concept. The new sub-compact SUV will debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Skoda Kamiq Interior
The interior of the Skoda Kamiq looks like it was lifted straight from the Skoda Scala.

While the exterior of the new model will mimic the concept to a great extent, the interior looks substantially different. The new SUV will be underpinned by the MQB-A0 platform, which will be shared with the likes of Seat Ibiza and Mk6 VW Polo.

The Skoda Kamiq should be available with a wide range of engine options, including the 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder petrol unit, the 1.5-litre TSI Evo four-cylinder petrol motor and the 1.6-litre TDI four-cylinder oil-burner. The peak power outputs of the engine options are expected to range from 95 PS to 150 PS. Transmission options are likely to include 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic units. AWD isn't expected to be offered.

The interior of the Skoda Kamiq should offer a long list of equipment, including a large touchscreen infotainment unit with sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Skoda Phonebox wireless smartphone charger and signal booster, and heated seats. The advanced driving assistance features on offer will include Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Detection.

The Skoda Kamiq will launch in the European markets later this year. In India, the VW Group could decide to bring in a derivative based on the MQB A0 IN platform. Scoop: Kamiq GT to be Skoda’s second SUV-coupe https://indianautosblog.com/scoop-kamiq-gt-to-be-skodas-second-suv-coupe-p316238 Thu, 31 Jan 2019 09:09:50 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=316238 Last year, Skoda introduced its first-ever SUV-coupe - the Kodiaq GT. IAB has learnt that as its second SUV-coupe, the company plans to introduce the ‘Kamiq GT’.

Skoda Kamiq Gt
The Skoda Kamiq GT, like the Kodiaq GT, is planned exclusively for China.

Some may argue that the Skoda Vision E’s production version will be the second Skoda SUV-coupe, but that’s a model scheduled for release in 2020. IAB understands that the Skoda Kamiq GT will break cover this year. Like the Skoda Kodiaq GT, this model is designed exclusively for China.

The Skoda Kamiq that will debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show on 5 March has no relation whatsoever to the Skoda Kamiq GT. That’s because it will be a derivative of the Chinese-spec Skoda Kamiq. The global version is an MQB A0 platform product, while the Chinese SUV sits on the old PQ platform.

Compared to the Kamiq, the GT will likely have a shorter, wider and lower body for a sportier stance. The regular version is 4,390 mm long, 1,781 mm wide and 1,593 mm high. The roofline of the GT version will likely gently slope down behind the front doors and merge into a flat tailgate for a dynamic profile. Like the Kodiaq GT and Scala, it would flaunt the brand logo in block capitals along the middle of the tailgate.

The Skoda Kamiq employs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 81 kW (110 PS) and 150 Nm of torque. In the GT version, one can expect a more powerful, turbocharged petrol mill that offers a more spirited drive. Also, it wouldn’t surprise us if this version rolls up on bigger, 18-inch alloy wheels.

Last month, it was spied in the same way along with the 2020 VW Golf in South Africa.

Skoda Kosmiq Spy Shot
The EU-spec Skoda Kamiq does not feature the Skoda Vision X's split rear lights.

The EU-SkodaKamiq looks much like the Skoda Vision X concept in size and proportions. The production model doesn't feature frameless doors and has a vent glass in the rear windows. There's also black body cladding for a higher level of ruggedness and a bigger tailgate for easier loading/unloading of luggage.

Though the rear lights of the Skoda Vision X are divided into two segments, they still make the signature ‘C’ shape and emphasise how broad the vehicle is. The rear lights of the Skoda Kamiq do have the L-shape impression of the upper segment of the concept’s rear lights, but they don’t look as appealing or individualistic. In fact, their shape is reminiscent of the VW Tiguan. Up top, the production sub-compact SUV features a shark fin antenna.

Like the VW T-Cross and the Seat Arona, the Skoda Kamiq sits on the MQB A0 platform. It will likely share the 95 PS/115 PS 1.0L TSI petrol, 150 PS 1.5L TSI and 95 PS/115 PS 1.6-litre TDI diesel engines with these models. Transmission choices should include 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG. Like the other two B-SUVs, expect this one also exclusively in front-wheel drive drivetrain layout.
