The upcoming Maruti Swift CNG and Dzire CNG specs have been leaked. We have come across an image shared by “car.spyshots” that reveals the power and torque output of the CNG models.

The new Maruti Swift CNG would borrow the 1.2L, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine from the petrol-powered model in which this motor produces nearly 83 PS of max power at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4200 rpm. However, as per the leaked image, the same engine in the CNG version of the popular hatchback would churn out around 71 PS of max power at 6000 rpm and 95 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. Similarly, the new Maruti Dzire CNG model would also be equipped with the same engine under its hood delivering the same output figures.

As expected, the power and torque output figures of the upcoming Maruti Swift CNG and Dzire CNG models see a drop when compared to their petrol-powered counterparts. These cars would have around 13 PS less power and 18 Nm less torque. Now, how this drop would result in the performance of the vehicles, we’ll have to test and see.

While the upcoming Maruti Swift CNG and Dzire CNG would have reduced power and torque, they would provide higher mileage. For reference, the petrol-powered Swift has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 23.2 kmpl with the manual transmission and 23.76 kmpl with the automatic gearbox. Similarly, the petrol-powered Dzire, as per ARAI figures, is capable of returning 23.26 kmpl and 24.12 kmpl with the manual and AMT gearbox respectively.

It’s surprising to see that Maruti Suzuki sold 2,639 more units of Dzire in April compared to cars sold in March 2021 because many states across the country witnessed a strong second wave of the pandemic. However, the high popularity of the Swift-based model is far from a surprise.

The Maruti Dzire has been popular among buyers for a few reasons, and one of them is its refined and frugal petrol engine. In its facelifted avatar, the third generation of Maruti's entry-level derives power from a 1.2-litre DualJet Dual VVT gasoline mill that is capable of shredding out 89bhp of peak power and 113 Nm of max torque. Transmission duties are done by 5-speed MT or an AMT. The manual trim of the car offers ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 23.26kmpl, while the automatic variant is tested to offer an ARAI-certified 24.12kmpl. The Dzire is also popular because it's quite easy to maintain and the carmaker has an extensive service network.

Maruti cars have always been reliable and easy-to-own, which, among others, are two factors that lead to a higher resale value. The Dzire is one of those products which gets better with every facelift. Last year, the carmaker introduced the refreshed model of the car with an entirely new fascia. Moreover, it also received some practical updates like the addition of cruise control, keyless entry, hill hold assist and so on. All these features make the Maruti Dzire a value-for-money proposition. It gets retailed at a starting price of Rs 5.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base LXi trim. Meanwhile, the top-end ZXI Plus AGS trim goes all the way up to Rs 9.02 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Last month, Maruti Dzire topped the sales tally with 11,434 units, followed by Honda Amaze, recording a sales figure of 4,596 units. The Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor registered sales of 4,023 units and 2,097 units, respectively. The Ford Aspire, however, recorded the lowest sales figure of only 327 units. The total of these sales figures of Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura, Ford Aspire, and Tata Tigor comes up to 11,043 only, which is lesser than the 11,434 units of Dzire sold in March this year.

Currently, the Maruti Dzire is on sale solely with a 1.2L Dualjet petrol motor, which is capable of putting out 90 PS of peak power and 113 Nm of max torque. The engine can be had paired to either a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. It also gets the automatic start-stop system to improve the overall fuel efficiency figures, which stand at 24.12 kmpl for AMT variants and 23.26 kmpl for manual trims.

On the inside, the Dzire offers a spacious and practical cabin. The feature list is decent too. It includes cruise control, touchscreen Smartplay Studio infotainment unit with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, coloured MID, steering-mounted audio controls, keyless entry and go, push-button start-stop system, automatic climate control and more. It also gets rear AC vents and a rear centre armrest to keep the chauffeured ones at ease. Being a sub-4m compact-sedan, the Dzire is 3,995 mm long, 1,735 mm wide, 1,515 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm.

On the outside, it employs modern-day design elements, like ORVM-mounted turn indicators, LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, LED combination tail lamps and so on. The Dzire is retailed at a starting price of INR 5.94 lakh for the base-spec LXI trim and tops out at INR 8.90 lakh for the range-topping ZXI+ variant with the AMT box.

Maruti Suzuki started exporting vehicles way back in FY1986-87. Since then, the company has exported 20 lakh cars including models such as the Swift, Vitara Brezza, Dzire, Jimny, S-Presso, and more. The firm has recently announced this achievement.

The engine comes with two transmission options – a 6-speed manual unit and a 6-speed automatic unit. Prices for the car starts at INR 7.49 lakh* for the Rider variant and go up to INR 11.79 lakh* for the Monte Carlo manual variant. The automatic variants starts at INR 9.49* lakh and go upto INR 13.29 lakh*.

Honda Civic

Last on our list is the Honda Civic. While sales of the new-gen version haven't been groundbreaking, the Civic is among the few badges that have cemented the brand’s popularity in India. Since its inception, the Civic has garnered nothing but positive response and all because of the underlying formula that Honda has gotten right through the generations. Maruti Suzuki has teamed up with ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services India, a subsidiary of ORIX Corporation, Japan, to launch the Maruti Suzuki Subscribe in Delhi-NCR (including Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad, and Gurugram) and Bengaluru. This car subscription program allows customers to use a new Maruti Suzuki car without actually owning it and by paying an all-inclusive monthly fee that comprehensively covers complete maintenance, insurance, and roadside assistance.

Announcing the customer-centric programme, Mr Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said:

The vehicle subscription market is new to India and as such offers huge untapped potential. Globally, the penetration of such leasing programme varies between 5% and 30%. The comprehensive Maruti Suzuki Subscribe initiative offers customers the multiple advantages and peace of mind from botheration of maintenance costs and insurance renewal. The programme is especially focussed to bring convenience to the individual customers. Besides the flexibility of tenure, it also offers nil down payment and includes registration costs, insurance and its renewal as well as routine maintenance, Additionally, the roadside assistance service brings total peace of mind to the customers. Progressively we aim to offer Maruti Suzuki Subscribe in 40-60 cities in the next 2-3 years.

Depending on their needs, customers can select a duration ranging from 12 to 48 months. To give you an idea about the monthly fee, you can get a Swift LXI in Delhi for a monthly subscription fee of just INR 14,463 (including taxes) for a tenure of 48 months. After the completion of the subscription tenure, customers can also opt to upgrade the vehicle, extend, or even buy the car at market price.

Customers can subscribe to several cars including the Swift, Dzire, Vitara Brezza, and Ertiga from Maruti Suzuki ARENA and Baleno, Ciaz, and XL6 from NEXA. The list is in ascending order and all the vehicles considered are priced below INR 7 Lakh (Ex-showroom):

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

Mileage: 21.79 Kmpl

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been a successful brand name, running for more than 20 years now. The original tallboy hatchback is reputed for offering a spacious cabin, a no frill package and an overall value-for-money offering. However, the biggest USP of the new Wagon R is the kind of mileage figure it offers. The latest generation of the Maruti-Suzuki WagonR now gets a more accessible 1.0-litre engine option producing 68 hp, with a rated fuel efficiency of 21.79 Kmpl. For people seeking a bigger engine with a bit of punch, there’s also a 1.2-litre petrol engine similar to the one in Swift, which produces 83 bhp. However, the mileage for the K12 version, is rated at 20.52 kmpl. The highlight of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is if you are looking for a smaller capacity more frugal engine, the 1.0-litre engine is for you. Interestingly, this engine is also offered with the choice of an AMT gearbox with the same fuel efficiency numbers as the manual gearbox variants. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more punchy engine, there's the 1.2-litre engine. All of this comes in at an affordable price range between INR 5-7 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Alto

Mileage: 22.05 Kmpl

Next in line is another small car from the house of Maruti-Suzuki and another legendary moniker. The most affordable car of India is also the highest sold car in India for several years now thanks to Maruti-Suzuki's brand name and value-for-money offering. However, the biggest USP of the Maruti Suzuki Alto is the mileage, a factor that many budget car buyers keep as priority. The Maruti-Suzuki Alto gets a 800 CC engine option with a 48 BHP output and a mileage figure of 22.05 kmpl. The small engine is BS-VI compatible and the most fuel-efficient small engine in India. While there is a bigger 1.0-litre engine in the Alto powering the K1o model, it has now been discontinued. Instead, Maruti Suzuki launched the S-Presso hatchback with the same engine. Coming back to the Maruti Suzuki Alto, it can be bought in a budget ranging from INR 3 lakh to INR 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Glanza

Mileage: 23.87 Kmpl

While many may think that the smaller the car, more the mileage, the Indian car market would beg to differ. The top three BS-VI petrol cars to have the maximum mileage in India are all bigger and expensive in price as compared to what many will perceive. Take for example, the Toyota Glanza premium hatchback which returns a mileage of 23.87 kmpl. The hatchback is based on the Maruti Baleno and is manufactured by Maruti-Suzuki itself under the trade agreement. Both cars get the same exact mechanicals underneath. Despite the mileage numbers and Toyota's trusted name attached, the Glanza is yet to receive widespread acclaim and the sales numbers Toyota would have hoped for. As for the engine, the Toyota Glanza is powered by a 1.2-litre direct-injection petrol engine that makes 90bhp.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Mileage: 23.87 Kmpl

Joining the Toyota Glanza in this list is the Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, on which the former is based. This also means that the mileage figures of both are exactly the same - 23.87 kmpl. However, what makes the Maruti Baleno best selling premium hatchback in India and also among the best selling vehicles in the county is the fact that it bears the trusted and revered Maruti-Suzuki brand name. Apart from that, both the Glanza and Baleno get the same engine - a 1.2-litre direct-injection petrol engine making 90bhp. The Maruti Baleno is also the second most fuel efficient car of India sharing spot with Toyota Glanza.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT

Mileage: 24.12 Kmpl

Finally, coming to the winner of the most fuel-efficient BS-VI petrol car of India - it is Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT. Before the BS-6 norms kicked in, the Maruti Dzire was the most fuel-efficient car of India, albeit in its diesel avatar. Now that Marut-Suzuki has discontinued its diesel engine lineup, it still is the most fuel efficient car in India as a petrol-powered car. Powered by a 1.2-litre BS-6 petrol engine, the Dzire returns an average of 24.12 kmpl , but only with an AMT gearbox. If you are looking to buy the manual version, the Dzire returns a mileage of 23.26 kmpl, which is still among the top 5 most fuel efficient figures in India.

The Maruti DZire base model looks pretty bare-bones from the outside. It doesn’t feature body-coloured door handles, body-coloured mirrors and turn indicators on the mirrors. It settles for steels wheels, which are also smaller, 14-inch units. Wheel covers aren’t included in the LXi variant. Like bigger, alloy wheels, chrome window trim also is excluded in the base variant. Instead, there are black stripes that are cheaper.

The Maruti DZire facelift’s base variant is as poor on the inside as it would have you think looking at its exterior. Dual-tone colour scheme, Multi-Information Display (MID) and gearshift indicator are the only key features included. On the safety front, in addition to ABS with EBD and BA, driver airbag, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, speed alert system, driver and co-driver SBR and reverse parking sensors, co-driver airbag is standard in the Maruti DZire.

Under the hood, the base Maruti DZire facelift has the same engine as the higher configurations. It’s the K12N 1.2-litre Dual Jet Dual VVT naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol unit. It comes with first-in-segment idle start-stop (ISS) function. It produces a maximum power of 66 kW (90 PS) at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 113 Nm at 4,400 rpm.

A 5-speed manual transmission is standard in the 2020 Maruti DZire LXi. The fuel economy rating (mileage) of the base model is 23.26 km/l. The price of the entry-level configuration is INR 5,89,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Powering the new Maruti DZire is the new K12N 1.2-litre Dual Jet Dual VVT petrol engine. This engine is BS6 compliant and available with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automated manual transmission.

The K12N engine employed in the sub-4 metre sedan features first-in-segment idle start-stop function. It produces 66 kW or 90 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of maximum torque at 4,400 rpm.
