How ESP+ Works:

The Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP) helps prevent a vehicle from skidding by ensuring it stays on its intended path. ESP integrates with systems like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), and Stability Control (SC). It uses sensors to monitor the vehicle's movements, and an electronic control unit processes this data to adjust the vehicle's trajectory, enhancing stability and control.

Maruti S-Presso Acceleartaion Test - Shocking Results! https://indianautosblog.com/maruti-s-presso-acceleration-test-p323629 Fri, 21 May 2021 13:30:03 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323629 The Maruti S-Presso is one of the most lucrative options available on the market for first-time car buyers. Thanks to its attractive price positioning, pseudo-SUV looks, a decently well-equipped cabin and of course, a frugal Maruti engine, there are plenty of good reasons to buy the S-Presso. But what about the performance of this micro-SUVish hatchback? Although that's not the first thing that would be in the mind of buyers of the S-Presso, it is still good to know what your car is capable of, isn't it?

So here we have an acceleration test of the Maruti S-Presso, testing its 0-60kph, 0-80kph and 0-100kph times. But first, let's address the specifications. The Maruti S-Presso is powered by the same K10 engine that powered the Alto K10, and essentially replaced the Alto K10 in India. The engine is a BS6 compliant 1.0L 3-cylinder unit that produces 67bhp and 90 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. There’s also an AMT on offer.

The Maruti S-Presso will actually surprise you with its performance. Its light agile, and quite fast indeed.

Here in this test, we have the manual variant of the Maruti S-Presso, with three people on board and with the AC running normally. That, hopefully, will give you a more accurate representation of the performance in the real world. As you can see in the video, the S-Presso takes just 5.21 seconds to accelerate from nought to 60 kph. Moving on, 0-80 kph comes up in 9.55 second and 0-100 kph takes only 13.40 seconds. Now that's quite fast for what is essentially a small city car.

Maruti S Presso Images Interior Dashboard
The S-Presso is a fairly well-rounded package with good enough features on board.

Numbers aside, the S-Presso actually feels fast and peppy in its character. And that's primarily because it's incredibly light. With a kerb weight of just 763 kg and being underpinned by Suzuki's Heartect platform, the S-Presso feels agile and nimble right from the get-go. Now you'd imagine that the S-Presso might not feel particularly stable and planted at higher speeds, but we are glad to report that it maintains its composure even at 100kph and beyond. So in terms of performance, the S-Presso is good to the point that it will actually surprise you.

Performance aside, it's a fairly well-rounded package with equipment such as manual air conditioning, front only power windows, a touchscreen multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and useable cup and bottle holders upfront on the top-spec VXI Plus trim. It also gets steering mounted controls for audio and Bluetooth telephony. Prices for the Maruti S-Presso currently ranges between INR  3.78 - 5.26 Lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Exports 20 Lakh Swift, Vitara Brezza, Dzire, Jimny & More https://indianautosblog.com/maruti-suzuki-exports-swift-vitara-brezza-dzire-jimny-p322713 Mon, 01 Mar 2021 06:10:48 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322713 Maruti Suzuki India Limited is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the country. Cars such as the Maruti Swift, Vitara Brezza, Dzire, Alto, and Baleno are amongst its most popular models available in the domestic market. Interestingly, the company manufactures products not just for sale here in India but for international markets, too. Currently, it exports 14 models (around 150 variants) to over 100 countries.

Maruti Swift S Presso Vitara Brezza Front

Maruti Suzuki started exporting vehicles way back in FY1986-87. Since then, the company has exported 20 lakh cars including models such as the Swift, Vitara Brezza, Dzire, Jimny, S-Presso, and more. The firm has recently announced this achievement.

Speaking on the feat, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said:

The Company is committed to Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi’s vision of Make-in-India. The 20 lakh vehicle exports from Maruti Suzuki are a testimony of the same. Maruti Suzuki has been exporting vehicles for the past 34 years much before India became a prominent player in the global automobile business. This early global exposure helped the Company enhance its quality and attain global benchmarks. Currently, we export 14 models, nearly 150 variants, to over 100 countries. Vehicles manufactured at our facilities in India have found high acceptance owing to global standards of quality, safety, design and technology. Going forward, the Company has aligned itself with the evolving needs of customers in African and Latin American nations. With a flurry of new models in the pipeline, Maruti Suzuki will attract customers in new segments to enable the Company to accomplish bigger milestones at a much faster pace.

In FY2012-13, Maruti Suzuki India Limited achieved the milestone of 10 lakh exports. More than 50% of the exports were undertaken to developed markets in Europe. The subsequent 10 lakh exports came in over eight years with a special focus on emerging markets in Latin America, Africa and Asia regions.

With concerted efforts, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has been able to gain a sizeable share in markets like Chile, Indonesia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. Models such as the Alto, Baleno, Dzire and Swift have emerged as popular choices in these countries.

Suzuki S-Presso in South Africa safer than Indian Maruti S-Presso - Report https://indianautosblog.com/suzuki-s-presso-south-africa-safer-than-indian-maruti-s-presso-p321928 Tue, 01 Dec 2020 04:30:18 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321928 As a part of the ‘Safer Cars for India’ campaign, Global NCAP tested the Maruti S-Presso, along with Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Kia Seltos, to see how safe these cars are. The S-Presso received a disappointing 0-star safety rating by the UK based organisation. This result not only shocked the Indian consumers but also put Suzuki S-Presso customers in South Africa in distress.

Suzuki Auto South Africa has, however, allayed any safety concerns in the S-Presso available in the region. Coming forward and speaking on the matter, Brendon Carpenter, National Brand Manager, Suzuki Auto South Africa, said:

The model that was used in the crash test is an Indian-specced model that is built exclusively for the Indian market. That particular model only features an airbag on the driver’s side and it also doesn’t have front seatbelts that feature pre-tensioners with load limiters. In South Africa, a driver and passenger airbag are standard across the S-Presso range, along with front seatbelts that include pre-tensioners with load limiters. The additional airbag and seatbelt enhancements make the local model a much safer vehicle. The S-Presso offers good value, but not at the expense of safety.

The Suzuki S-Presso on sale in South Africa is yet to be tested by Global NCAP under the ‘Safer Cars for Africa’ campaign, an initiative of the AA. In fact, it is not clear at the moment as to if and when the car will be subjected to testing. Layton Beard, a spokesman for the AA, said:

There is a clear difference in the safety specification levels between the Indian and SA S-Presso, so to jump to any conclusions regarding those results at this stage would be both premature and unfair. Simply put, the car that was tested is not the same one you can buy off a showroom floor in South Africa.

The Maruti S-Presso was launched in India late last year. Currently, the Renault Kwid competitor is available from a starting price of INR 3.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Suzuki introduced the S-Presso in South Africa earlier this year. The car has become one of the company’s best sellers in a short period. At ZAR 145,900 (INR 6.98 lakh), the Suzuki S-Presso is the most affordable passenger car in South Africa.

Hyundai Santro

The Santro rooted Hyundai’s brand name in India. And after being absent in the market for a while, Hyundai brought back the Santro badge in a rather interesting package. In line with its stablemates, the new Hyundai Santro comes with a few segment-first features like a 7-inch touchscreen audio-video system. The multi-media system has Android Auto, Apple Carplay and Mirror Link along with supporting Voice Recognition Function & Rear Parking Camera display on the screen.

The new Hyundai Santro is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine which produces 69 ps at 5,500 pm and there's both AMT and manual gearboxes on offer. Prices for the new Santro starts at INR 4.57 lakh*.

Top lowest priced cars in India - IAB picks https://indianautosblog.com/top-lowest-priced-cars-in-india-iab-picks-p321028 Wed, 01 Jul 2020 09:11:51 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321028 India is a competitive car market which heavily relies on compact entry level hatchbacks when it comes to volumes. A majority of the Indian car buyer audience still relies on the price point as the final decision maker while buying cars.

Following is a list of lowest priced cars in India, all of which are hatchbacks powered by small and economic petrol engines.

Datsun redi-GO

The Datsun redi-GO is not only the smallest car from the Japanese car maker’s lineup in India, but is also the least priced car in Indian car market. With a starting price of INR 2.83 lakh, the Datsun redi-GO holds the title of the most affordable car in India.

2020 Datsun Redigo Facelift Front Three Quarters

The Datsun redi-GO is available with a choice of two petrol engine options – a 0.8-litre three cylinder petrol (54 PS/72 Nm) and a 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol engine (68 PS/91 Nm). While a 5-speed manual gearbox is common to both the engines, the 1.0-litre variants can be had with an optional 5-speed AMT.

Renault Kwid

Bringing the SUV revolution to entry level compact cars with its raised stance and rugged styling bits, the Renault Kwid has appealed a lot of masses ever since its launch in 2015. The compact hatchback was given its first midlife facelift with fresh new cabin and styling updates at the front, and is available with a starting price point of INR 2.92 lakh.

2019 Renault Kwid Review Images Front Three Quarte

The Renault Kwid shares both of its powertrain options with the Datsun redi-GO mentioned above – a 0.8-litre three cylinder petrol (54 PS/72 Nm) and a 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol engine (68 PS/91 Nm). Like in the redi-GO, both the engines get paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, with the 1.0-litre variants getting a 5-speed AMT as well.

Maruti Alto

Ever since its inception almost two decades ago, the Maruti Alto has been the torch bearer of Maruti Suzuki in India, by consistently being one of the highest selling cars in the Indian car market. The key aspects of the success of Maruti Alto happens to be its low maintenance costs, high fuel efficiency and a low starting price point, which currently starts at INR 2.95 lakh.

2019 Maruti Alto Facelift Blazing Red Front Three

The latest generation Maruti Alto sources its power from a 0.8-litre three cylinder petrol engine, which is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and makes 48 PS of maximum power and 69 Nm of torque.

Maruti S-Presso

To take its rivalry with the Renault Kwid head on, Maruti came up with the S-Presso – an SUV inspired entry level hatchback, which has gained a lot of attention with its quirky styling in and out. However, it retains all the positive traits of a compact Maruti Suzuki car, like a spacious cabin and affordable maintenance costs and fuel bills.

Maruti S Presso Images Front Three Quarters 3

The Maruti S-Presso gets a starting price point of INR 3.71 lakh, and is the smallest car from Maruti Suzuki which gets the much famed 1.0-litre three cylinder K10 petrol engine. Available with both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes, the engine makes 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque.

Maruti Celerio

The Maruti Celerio might be a bit too long in the tooth now, especially with newer products from other car makers and Maruti Suzuki itself. However, the hatchback still holds its candle among others with its practical and spacious cabin and ease of driving – not to forget it was this car which brought the revolution of AMTs in India.

New Maruti Celerio Facelift Front Three Quarters

The Maruti Celerio is currently available with the 1.0-litre three cylinder K10 petrol engine (68 PS/90 Nm), which is being offered with both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes. Currently, the prices for the Maruti Celerio commence at INR 4.41 lakh.

Maruti WagonR

Like the Maruti Alto, the Maruti WagonR too has been a highly successful model for the car maker since last two decades, and has seen multiple generations climbing the sales charts consistently. The Maruti WagonR is currently in its third generation version and even today is a strong brand when it comes to practicality and frugality.

Wagonr

The current generation of Maruti WagonR gets two engine options – a 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol motor (68 PS/90 Nm) and 1.2-litre three cylinder engine (83 PS/113 Nm) – with both the engines getting both the options of a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes. The Maruti WagonR starts at a price of INR 4.46 lakh.

Hyundai Santro

The most affordable car from the Hyundai’s stable in India, the Hyundai Santro too is one of the most reputed and oldest sub-brands in the Indian car market. The original tall boy hatchback from Hyundai was resurrected in 2018 and is currently in its third generation version.

The Hyundai Santro has a starting price point of INR 4.58 lakh, and gets a 1.1-litre four cylinder petrol engine. The engine, which is capable of making 69 PS of power and 99 Nm of torque, has been made available with both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes.

Tata Tiago

The Tata Tiago came at the very right moment when Tata Motors was waiting for that one right product which can turn the tables in its favour. With segment best build quality and contemporary appeal, the Tata Tiago soon became a hot favorite, especially among the urban youth customers.

The Tata Tiago got its first facelift in 2020, which saw the omission of diesel variants, and now soldiers on the 1.2-litre three cylinder petrol motor. The engine makes a healthy 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, and is available with both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT transmissions. The Tiago is the most affordable car from Tata, the prices of which start at INR 4.60 lakh.

Maruti Ignis

Maruti Suzuki has been the flag bearer of compact practical hatchbacks and the most affordable product from its NEXA sub brand of premium cars too ends up in this list. Known for its quirky styling and chic urban appeal, the Maruti Ignis carries a starting price point of INR 4.89 lakh.

The Maruti Ignis gets a 1.2-litre four cylinder petrol engine under its hood, which makes 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, and can be had either with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Maruti Celerio X

Before the S-Presso, Maruti tried to cash in the rising interest of crossover hatchbacks with the Celerio X, which is basically a more rugged looking version of the Maruti Celerio with added body cladding, rear skid plate and bulky looking fog lamp inserts.

Maruti CelerioX launched

With a starting price point of INR 4.90 lakh, the Maruti Celerio X shares its 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol engine (68 PS/90 Nm) as well as transmission options of a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes with the Maruti Celerio.

Maruti Suzuki sells 1 million+ CNG vehicles, to launch S-Presso CNG - IAB Report https://indianautosblog.com/maruti-suzuki-sells-1-million-cng-vehicles-launch-s-presso-cng-p320854 Sat, 06 Jun 2020 09:23:15 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320854 Maruti Suzuki has announced that it has sold more than a million CNG vehicles now. The company is likely to launch the S-Presso CNG later this year and expand its CNG portfolio.

Maruti Suzuki Cng Vehicles
Maruti Suzuki offers six factory-fitted CNG vehicles currently: Alto, Eeco, WagonR, Super Carry, Tour S and Ertiga.

Maruti Suzuki says that it has seen a 15.5% CAGR increase in its CNG sales in the past five years. The Indo-Japanese automaker sold 1,06,443 CNG vehicles in FY2019-20 alone, making a new yearly sales record for itself. Factory-fitted Maruti CNG models currently include Alto, Eeco, WagonR, Super Carry, Tour S and Ertiga.

India’s leap to the BS-VI emission norms has made diesel engines way more expensive, so much so that Maruti Suzuki was left with no choice but to discontinue its diesel engines. For a company marketing its vehicles mainly based on low running costs, that’s a big problem. So, it is laying a stronger focus on CNG technology and plans to draw diesel model customers to CNG models now. It is expected to launch a number of new CNG models in the near future, the first of which will be the S-Presso CNG from Auto Expo 2020.

Maruti S Presso Cng Front Three Quarters Auto Expo
Maruti Suzuki will likely launch the S-Presso CNG soon.

The Indian government is also giving CNG technology the much-needed impetus finally. As on 1 February 2020, 1,989 CNG stations were operational in India, spread across 21 states. On 8 September 2018, Dharmendra Pradhan, the national government’s Cabinet Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, had announced that there are plans to have about 10,000 CNG stations within a decade. On 26 August 2019, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas had said that the aim is to increase the share of natural gas in the energy mix from 6.2% to 15% by 2030. Maruti Suzuki sure is excited about these numbers.

However, newer and more polished models are available in this price segment as well. Below are the best cars under 5 lakh in India:

1. Renault Kwid

Renault pulled off a surprise back in 2015 when it ventured into a territory completely dominated by the likes of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai with its entry-level Kwid. The Renault Kwid, with its SUV-inspired styling despite the small dimensions, proved to be a super successful formula for Renault in India, and since then, has been spearheading the French carmaker's operations in India.

The Renault Kwid was one of the pioneers in the entry-level hatchbacks in featuring SUV-inspired design bits.

The Renault Kwid received a mid-life facelift in 2019. The SUV-styled hatchback now has a refurbished front end design with a new grille, split headlamp layout, LED DRLs and LED inserts in the tail lamps. The interior too has been enhanced, with a new dashboard, completely new fully digital instrument console and a larger touchscreen infotainment system.

Under the hood, the new Renault Kwid comes with the engines which were available in the old model as well – a 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine (54 PS/72 Nm) and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor (68 PS/91 Nm). The former is available with a 5-speed manual transmission only, while the latter can be had with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automated manual transmission. The prices of the Renault Kwid range between INR 2.92-5.01 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) is one of the best cars under 5 lakh in India.

2. Maruti S-Presso

After a long time, Maruti Suzuki tried to emulate the success formula proven by the Renault Kwid of SUV inspiration in an entry-level hatchback with the S-Presso. The Maruti S-Presso had huge shoes to fill, for the hatchback is believed to be a replacement model of the Maruti Alto K10 which will soon be discontinued.

S Presso
The Maruti S-Presso feels unique with its high stance and funky interiors.

The Maruti S-Presso looks quite unique with its standout SUV stance in its petite size. The raised bonnet, high raised front bumper and high ground clearance come together to give it a towering stance. Carrying on its funkiness on the inside as well, the Maruti S-Presso comes with a very youthful looking cabin with a centrally mounted digital instrument console and a modern Smartplay Studio infotainment system.

The Maruti S-Presso relies on the tried and tested 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10B petrol engine, available with 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual gearbox choices. This engine puts out 68 PS of maximum power and 90 Nm of peak torque. The prices of the Maruti S-Presso range between INR 3.71-4.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

3. Maruti Wagon R

The Maruti Wagon R has been a perennial success story from day one of its inception in the Indian car market and a major contributor in making Maruti Suzuki the number one automaker in the country in terms of sales numbers. The A-segment hatchback with the tall-boy design has seen multiple generation changes in two decades.

The new Maruti Wagon R feels modern while retaining tall boy stance and boxy design.

The current generation Maruti Wagon R, which was introduced in 2019, has seen the hatchback receiving an entirely new design, which retains the traditional tall boy stance and a boxy silhouette. On the outside, the wraparound headlamps and vertically laid tail lamps do make the car look fresher. The interior looks much more upmarket with a new multi-functional steering wheel and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Unlike before, the Maruti Wagon R is now available with two engine options – 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol (68 PS/90 Nm) and 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol (83 PS/113 Nm). Both the engines are available with the options of a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automated manual transmission. The prices of the Maruti Wagon R start at INR 4.46 lakh and goes all the way up to INR 6.00 lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi) is one of the best cars under 5 lakh in India.

4. Hyundai Santro

The Hyundai Santro needs no introduction, for it's the model with which Hyundai forayed into the Indian market in the late 90s of the 20th century. After a brief period of non-existence, the Hyundai Santro made a noteworthy comeback in India in a completely new avatar. It still features the signature tall-boy stance but in a much more modern form.

The Hyundai Santro is currently the most affordable model from Hyundai in India.

Unlike other models of Hyundai in India, the Hyundai Santro is not too feature-rich and has a completely different design. However, features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, fog lamps and steering mounted audio controls do make it an appealing modern A-segment car for the urban youth population of the country.

The Hyundai Santro packs the 1.1-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which used to power the erstwhile Hyundai Santro Xing. In its current guise, this engine is available with a 5-speed manual transmission as well as a 5-speed automated manual transmission. It produces 69 PS of maximum power and 99 Nm of maximum torque. The prices range between INR 4.57-5.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

5. Tata Tiago

It was the Tiago with which Tata successfully made a successful comeback in the domestic market. Introduced as a gradual replacement model for the iconic Tata Indica, the Tata Tiago lured the Indian audience with its youthful styling, tough build quality and more refined engine options. It is one of the most premium cars in its segment.

With the facelift, the Tata Tiago looks even more youthful and premium.

Before the commencement of BS-VI era, Tata Motors gave the Tiago a mid-life update, which saw the hatchback receiving a new and wider looking front fascia with sleeker headlamps and new front and rear bumpers. The interior, however, has remained the same. The hatchback has modern amenities like automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, multi-functional steering wheel and a fully digital instrument console.

With the facelift, Tata Motors has bid adieu to the 1.1-litre diesel engine option. It offers the Tiago with only a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which makes 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual are the transmission choices. Now the company is likely planning to launch a CNG variant of the same, suggests new spy shots published by GaadiWaadi.

Maruti S Presso Cng 1
The Maruti S-Presso is powered by the BS-VI K10B 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine.

Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki revealed its plans on making its entire small-car portfolio CNG equipped. The company is optimistic about the expansion of its CNG portfolio since the government is working on significantly increasing the availability of CNG throughout the nation and CNG is considered as a cleaner fuel in comparison to the regular gasoline or diesel fuels.

The company calls its CNG vehicles 'S-CNG' vehicles. Currently, five of its passenger models are already kitted with CNG, namely Alto, Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR and Ertiga. With the launch of the S-Presso CNG, the total count will reach to six. Apart from this, its commercial offerings such as Dzire Tour S, Eeco and Super Carry are also offered with CNG.

The Maruti S-Presso is based on Suzuki's Heartect K platform with 98% localisation. It is powered by the BS-VI K10B 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine which delivers 50 kW (67.98 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine is offered with transmission choices of 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual. The fuel economy rating, irrespective of the transmission selected, is 21.7 km/l (VXI/VXI+)/21.4 km/l (STD/LXI).
