Honda Cars India Domestic Sales & Export Figures For June ‘21 Released https://indianautosblog.com/honda-cars-india-domestic-sales-export-figures-june-21-p324025 Thu, 01 Jul 2021 13:00:47 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=324025 Honda Cars India, one of the leading car manufacturers in the country, has released its domestic sales and export figures for June 2021. The company has reported significant growth when compared to the numbers of June 2020.

In June 2021, Honda Cars India sold 4,767 units in the domestic market. In the corresponding period last year, the brand had registered only 1,398 units amidst operational restrictions of the COVID-led national lockdown. On the other hand, the company has exported 1,241 cars last month. In June 2020, the export numbers stood at just 142. For reference, in March 2021, Honda Cars India had sold 7,103 units in the country whereas, in April, the figure increased to 9,072; which is a growth of 27.7%.

Speaking on the business situation, Mr Rajesh Goel, Sr. Vice President and Director, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd, said:

Our June despatches were in line with our production output, which we maintained at below 50% of the pre-COVID level. With the unlocking of many states and the reopening of dealer outlets in most markets, we expect car sales to further pick up from this month onwards and will accordingly ramp up our daily production. We hope that this positive momentum will continue thereby helping the industry to recover, however, challenges of COVID related disruptions and rising ownership costs due to higher raw material prices remain.

Currently, Honda Cars India has 5 models in its catalogue for the domestic market. We have the 5th-gen Honda City which sits at the top of the brand’s Indian lineup with a starting price of INR 10.99 lakh. It is on sale beside the 4th-gen model. More Than 77,000 Honda City, Amaze, WR-V & Others to Get New Fuel Pumps https://indianautosblog.com/honda-cars-recalled-for-faulty-fuel-pump-p323222 Mon, 19 Apr 2021 09:30:06 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323222 Honda Cars India have issued a preventive recall for nearly 78,000 cars in India in order to change a faulty fuel pump. The Japanese carmaker has launched a service campaign to replace fuel pumps in 77,954 Honda cars - spanning across several models - that were manufactured between January 2019 and September 2020 in India. As per the carmaker, the fuel pumps installed in these cars may contain defective impellers, which could eventually result in the engine stopping or not starting at all.

2018 Honda Amaze scenic shot
Honda's recall has most affected the Amaze sedan with as 36,086 units fitted with the faulty fuel pump.

The recall will be carried out in a phased manner and has already started from April 17, 2021. The carmaker has released a detailed list of all the models that have been affected, including their production period and the number of units of each model that have been fitted with the faulty fuel pump. Barring the fifth-gen Honda City, the recall has affected every other Honda car in India. The vehicle most affected by this recall is the Honda Amaze with as many as 36,086 units fitted with the faulty fuel pump.

Model Production Year No of Units affected
Amaze Jan - Aug 2019 36,086
Last-Gen City Jan - Sept 2019 20,248
WR-V Jan - Aug 2019 7,871
Jazz Jan - Aug 2019 6,235
Civic Jan - Sept 2019 5,170
BR-V Jan - Oct 2019 1,737
CRV Jan 2019 - Sept 2020 607
Total 77,954

The recall also includes 20,248 units of the fourth-gen Honda City, 7,871 units of the WR-V, 6,235 units of the Jazz hatchback, 5,170 units of the Civic sedan, and 1,737 units of the BR-V. All these vehicles were manufactured between January and October 2019. Additionally, the recall also covers 607 units of the Honda CR-V that were manufactured between January 2019 and September 2020. It must be noted that the Honda CR-V, Civic and BR-V have been discontinued in India.

Honda Civic
Now discontinued models like the Honda CR-V and Civic have also been affected by the recall.

Vehicles manufactured before or after the above-mentioned time period do not have the suspected fuel pump issue. This recall could actually be a part of a global recall that Honda initiated in March 2021. Earlier last month, Honda had said that they will recall about 761,000 vehicles worldwide to replace fuel pumps that could fail and lead to engine problems. Given the current situation with the pandemic in the country, Honda dealers are operating with limited staff. Customers are advised to visit dealerships with prior appointment to adhere to pandemic protocols.

Honda's authorized dealer partners will be contacting the owners of the affected vehicles individually. The replacement of the part will be carried out free of cost to the customer. Additionally, owners can also check whether their cars are covered under this campaign by entering the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite which has been created on the company's website.

Scrappy Old Honda Jazz Completely Transformed With Custom Interior And New Paint Job https://indianautosblog.com/pre-facelift-honda-jazz-restoration-p322993 Fri, 26 Mar 2021 10:30:10 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322993 Before we start telling you in detail about this restored Honda Jazz, why don't you skip all the way to the 17-minute mark in the video embedded below and check out some beautiful footage of the restored car. Done? Well, this Honda Jazz 2nd hand to be a rental fleet car that was registered with a commercial self-driven certificate. It spent most of its life in the hands of ever-changing drivers, and as you'd expect with rental fleet cars, it experienced quite some abuse. It then arrived at Brotomotive, an auto detailing company based in Pune, for exterior restoration and interior refurbishing. You can now watch the video in detail to see how the transformation was executed.

If you look at the Jazz before it was restored, nearly every body panel of the hatchback seemed cheaply repaired and repainted several times. The headlamps were all cloudy due to oxidation and the outside ORVMs had even lost their mirror caps. Even a tail lamp at the rear was cracked and the clear coat on this Jazz was pealing off from several places. It almost looked like it had been sitting at a scrap yard for months than a not-so-old Jazz that was used regularly.

And then, the restoration job completely transforms the look of the car. All body panels of this Jazz have been completely redone, right from denting, sanding and painting afresh. The car has been given a beautiful gloss finish and some other exterior enhancements include new wheel covers and new projector headlamps with aftermarket LED DRLs. The interior of this Jazz sees a more comprehensive makeover. The interior has been newly painted in a black and brown color scheme with new leather inserts on the door pads, new black and brown leather upholstery and there are even new wood inserts on the dashboard and center console.

Honda Jazz Restored
This scrappy old Honda Jazz looks as good as new after the restoration process.

This, of course, is the pre-facelift version of the Honda Jazz. Late last year, Honda updated the Jazz with a facelift that brought in comprehensive cosmetic tweaks and more features on the inside. On the outside, the hatchback was updated with a chrome accentuated high-gloss black front grille, new LED headlamps with LED DRLs, and LED fog lamps. The front and rear bumpers were also revised for a sportier look. The signature rear LED wing light ensures that the new Jazz is as good looking from the back as it is from the front.

Under the hood, the BS6 Honda Jazz is powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. This mill delivers a maximum power of 90 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 110 Nm at 4,800 rpm. For transmission duties, a 5-speed manual and CVT gearbox option is available. Honda claims that the 2020 Jazz with the 5-speed gearbox is capable of giving a fuel economy of 16.6 km/l whereas the CVT model can return 17.1 km to a litre. The Jazz is also the only car in the segment which is equipped with steering wheel-mounted Paddle Shifters in the CVT variants. Prices for the Honda Jazz currently range between INR 7.50 lakh and INR 9.74 lakh (ex-showroom).

2020 Honda Jazz BS-6 Bookings Now Open At Dealerships Or Online https://indianautosblog.com/2020-honda-jazz-bs-6-bookings-now-open-at-dealerships-or-online-p321368 Mon, 10 Aug 2020 13:15:51 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=321368 In order to freshen up the appeal of the Honda Jazz, Honda Cars India will soon be launching the updated, BS6-compliant version of its premium hatchback. Honda has started taking booking for the new Honda Jazz, with buyers getting the choice to do so at the dealership or online through its ‘Honda from Home’ application. However, the booking amount has been set at INR 5,000 at the dealerships and INR 21,000 if you do so online. The new 2020 Honda Jazz will feature styling changes outside, new features and updated powertrain options.

2020 Honda Jazz Bs6 Launching Soon

In terms of styling, the 2020 Honda Jazz will retain largely a familiar design. Honda has confirmed though that the update will bring along a newly-designed black grille accentuated by chrome accents. To compliment the grille, the 2020 Honda Jazz will even feature updated front and rear bumper styling. What will also be updated is the car’s lighting package. The 2020 Honda Jazz gets new LED headlights with an updated LED glow pattern, LED fog lights and new LED tail lamps with a signature glow pattern. For its interior package, the 2020 Honda Jazz get subtle new upgrades to widen its appeal. While the entire list is yet to be confirmed, additions to the new Honda Jazz will include a one-touch sunroof, keyless-entry-and-go and cruise control. The 2020 Honda Jazz will even be the only model in its class that will offer ‘dual mode’ steering-mounted paddle-shifters.

New Honda Jazz Facelift Rear

One of the biggest changes to updated Honda Jazz can be found under the hood. The 1.2-litre NA i-VTEC petrol engine has been updated and is now BS-6 compliant. However, the outgoing version's diesel unit has been discontinued due to its poor demand and high upgradation costs. While the engine is cleaner and more refined, it retains the similar output to that of the BS4 version i.e. 90bhp and 110Nm of torque. For transmission choices, Honda is offering customers the option of a 5-speed manual and a CVT. Apart from the Honda Jazz, the company has few new models in the pipeline. The first will be a petrol-electric hybrid based on the Jazz or fifth-gen City and the second is the Honda H-RV. Which, if approved for India, will sit between the W-RV and C-RV.

2020 Honda Jazz facelift won’t be available with a diesel engine - Report https://indianautosblog.com/2020-honda-jazz-facelift-diesel-engine-p320705 Tue, 19 May 2020 12:31:04 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320705 The 2020 Honda Jazz facelift will go on sale in India soon. Unlike the old model, it won’t be available with a diesel engine.

New Honda Jazz Facelift Front Three Quarters On Lo
The 2020 Honda Jazz facelift in India will likely have a front end same as that of the 2017 Honda jazz facelift sold in other markets.

The latest development has been confirmed by Rajesh Goel, Senior VP (Marketing & Sales), Honda (India). Explaining why the company is discontinuing the Honda Jazz diesel in India, Goel said: “During 2019-20, HCIL’s overall sales contribution was almost 80 percent from petrol and 20 percent from diesel, but this trend differed in each of the product segments.”

The MY2020 update will be the second facelift for the Mk3 Honda Jazz in India. Internationally, the same design was introduced with the first (and the only) facelift in mid-2017. Many of these markets have already moved to the fourth-gen Honda Jazz, which has been ruled out for India.

The 2020 Honda Jazz facelift will feature a more dynamic front bumper, revised upper grille, LED headlamps and a more upright Honda logo at the front. The alloy wheels will be the same 15-inch ones of the old car.

New Honda Jazz Facelift Interior
The interior of the new Honda Jazz is unlikely to have any significant changes.

Under the hood, the 2020 Honda Jazz will have a revised, BS6 1.2-litre i-VTEC SOHC naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. The BS4 version produces 90 PS at 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm. It returns a fuel economy of 18.2 km/l (with 5-speed MT)/19.0 km/l (with CVT). The maximum power and maximum torque of the BS6 version should be the same. The fuel economy rating could be different.

New Honda Jazz (facelift) to feature LED headlamps - IAB Report https://indianautosblog.com/new-honda-jazz-facelift-feature-led-headlamps-p320334 Thu, 16 Apr 2020 14:10:53 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320334 The new Honda Jazz has been teased just weeks before its launch in India. The new development has revealed a number of things, one of which is that it will feature LED headlamps.

2020 Honda Jazz Facelift Teaser India
The design the Mk3 Honda Jazz in India will adopt with the second facelift was introduced on the Mk3 Honda Jazz internationally with the first (and the only) facelift.

The new Honda Jazz India is about to get was released internationally in mid-2017. Yes, this has been the facelifted Mk3 Honda Jazz for international markets for nearly three years now. In India, sadly, the facelifted Mk3 Honda Jazz launched in mid-2018 was the same old model with just one design change - LED tail light. It will be only now, in mid-2020, that we will get the actual facelifted Mk3 Honda Jazz that has been plying on the streets of other markets for nearly three years now.

The teaser image reveals that the second facelift for the Mk3 Honda Jazz in India will bring the changes that were introduced in the Mk3 Honda Jazz internationally with the first (and the only) facelift internationally in mid-2017. These will be a more dynamic front bumper, a more upright brand logo on the upper grille and LED headlamps. However, the Mk3 hatchback in our market won’t be matching the international car even after the second facelift, as it won’t be getting new alloy wheels.

The rear bumper of the once-again-facelifted Mk3 Honda Jazz in India should also be new, the same unit which the third-gen model had received internationally with the facelift in mid-2017. We don’t expect anything new inside on the design front.

New Honda Jazz Facelift Front Three Quarters Left
This is how the 2020 Honda Jazz in India will likely look like.

The second minor model change for the previous generation Honda Jazz in India will see the 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine getting upgraded to BS6. Currently, the petrol engine produces 90 PS and 110 Nm of torque and the diesel engine develops 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The former was available with a 5-speed MT and a CVT, while the latter came with a 6-speed MT as standard. The maximum power and maximum torque of the engines and the transmission choices should remain unchanged.

New Honda Jazz BS6 spied on test, to be launched soon https://indianautosblog.com/new-honda-jazz-bs6-spied-test-launch-soon-p320283 Sat, 11 Apr 2020 06:36:02 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320283 Earlier this month, we had reported that Honda has teased the new Jazz BS6. Now, spy shots of the upcoming car have surfaced online.

New Honda Jazz Bs6 Facelift Front Rear Spy Shot
The new Honda Jazz BS6 may feature a new grille and a new front bumper.

The BS6 Jazz may not be just about an upgraded engine that is greener. That’s what the general anticipation is because of Honda teasing the car and camouflaging its test mule.

The all-new, 2020 Honda Jazz that is on sale internationally now isn’t going to be launched in India. So, the previous generation model will likely see an extended life here, and that’d mean another facelift. Lights, bumpers, grille and wheels are some of the exterior parts that usually get tweaked/replaced in case of a minor model change. Neither the teaser image nor the spy shots reveal any visual changes, and so we’ll probably have to wait until the launch to know what’s new on the design front.

The Mk3 Honda Jazz will retain both its engines in India post the BS6 upgrade. One is the 1.2-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol unit producing 90 PS at 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm. The other engine is the 1.5-litre i-DTEC turbocharged four-cylinder diesel unit developing 100 PS at 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm.

The outputs and the maximum engine speed they’re delivered at are expected to remain unchanged post the BS6 upgrade. The same is expected for the transmission choices. The petrol engine variant buyers will likely be able to choose between a 5-speed MT and a CVT. The diesel engine variant should come with a 6-speed MT as standard.

New Honda Jazz Bs6 Facelift Spy Shot
Honda will upgrade both the engines of the Mk3 Jazz to BS6.

Honda should launch the new Jazz BS6 in India by next month. The company will likely price the new model higher than the old model.

Honda teases BS6 Jazz, discontinues Civic diesel, CR-V diesel & Accord Hybrid https://indianautosblog.com/honda-teases-bs6-jazz-discontinues-civic-diesel-cr-v-diesel-accord-hybrid-p320213 Wed, 01 Apr 2020 10:53:31 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=320213 Honda has teased the new BS6 Jazz, indicating that the updated model might be more than just a greener car compared to the BS4 version. Also, the company has discontinued multiple models.

New Honda Jazz Bs6 Teaser
Honda will likely sell the new BS6 Jazz in both petrol and diesel.

The Mk4 Honda Jazz that broke cover last year isn’t destined to India because of being too sophisticated and the existing model having failed to live up to the expectations. The Mk3 Honda Jazz’s lifecycle will probably be extended in India with another facelift. However, the teased car doesn’t seem to have any design changes. Maybe it’s packing feature revisions, then.

The BS6 Honda Jazz, like the BS4 version, should be offered with a 1.2-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine linked to a 5-speed MT or a CVT and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC turbocharged diesel engine matched with a 6-speed MT. These petrol and diesel engines came in the tuning of 90 PS/110 Nm and 100 PS/200 Nm respectively in the old car. The fuel economy rating of the BS4 version was 19.0 km/l (petrol-MT)/18.2 km/l (petrol-CVT)/27.3 km/l (diesel-MT).

Like the BS4 version, the BS6 version will likely be available with features like 15-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and GPS navigation, paddle shifters and cruise control.

In other news, Honda has stopped offering the Civic and CR-V with a diesel engine. The Civic and CR-V’s diesel engine was the 1.5-litre i-DTEC single-turbo unit good for 120 PS and 300 Nm. It should be reintroduced later this year after being upgraded to BS6.

2018 Honda Jazz interior
The BS6 Honda Jazz may include some changes with respect to the features.

Honda has discontinued the ninth-gen Accord also in India, which it used to offer in only the Hybrid variant. The company is unlikely to launch the tenth-gen Accord, which it had introduced in July 2017, in our market.

Honda offers the fourth generation Jazz in Japan in five types, namely Basic, Home, Ness, Crosstar and Luxe. All other types except Crosstar are basically just equipment lines. Crosstar is a differently styled derivative with crossover character. Think of it as developed countries' WR-V alternative.

Honda is offering plenty of options for the all-new Jazz, including 25 exterior colour choices, 5 interior colour choices and total 20 different configurations. Then, of course, there’s a rotating passenger seat (front) version for the differently-abled and the elderly as well. Available in exclusively the Basic trim and total four different configurations, it will go on sale on the 16th of this month.

2020 Honda Jazz Crosstar Exterior

Full-LED headlights, LED fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, genuine leather seat upholstery, electric parking brake, genuine leather-wrapped two-spoke steering wheel, 9-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system (VXU-205FTi) and 7-inch digital instrument cluster are some of the main features of the 2020 Honda Jazz. 2020 Honda Jazz Home Interior

The 2020 Honda Jazz measures 3,995-4,090 mm in length, 1,695-1,725 mm in width and 1,515-1,570 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,530 mm. It is available in a petrol variant and a hybrid variant. The petrol variant returns up to 24.2 km/l (JC08), while the hybrid variant’s fuel economy rating goes as high as 38.6 km/l (JC08).

The petrol variant uses the L13B 1.3-litre N/A four-cylinder engine (98 PS/118 Nm) and a CVT as standard. A 4WD system is available optionally.

2020 Honda Jazz Home Profile

The hybrid variant’s powertrain uses the LEB-H5 1.5-litre N/A four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric generator motor, an electric propulsion motor, a Lithium-ion battery and a fixed-gear transmission via an intelligent power control unit. A 4WD system is optionally available in the hybrid variant as well.

The engine produces 98 PS and 127 Nm of torque. The electric propulsion motor generates 109 PS and 253 Nm of torque. The single fixed-gear ratio transmission is more compact than a planetary eCVT that is common in hybrid vehicles. It creates a direct connection between the moving components, leading to a smoother transfer of torque and a linear feel during acceleration.
