As a precautionary measure, the software update will be carried out at BigWing Topline dealerships across India starting from 3 September 2022. The update will be done free of cost irrespective of the warranty status of the vehicle.

Honda through its BigWing Topline dealers will proactively notify customers via call / e-mail / SMS for inspection of their vehicle. Customers can also check if their vehicle falls under this campaign by submitting their unique Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the Honda BigWing website. To avoid any inconvenience or waiting at the dealership, customers are requested to book their service appointment in advance as per their availability.

The 2022 model offers more accessibility with both Apple CarPlay (for iOS users) and the newly added Android Auto. It also features an adjustable seat and rally styled positive LCD color display to ensure a comfortable ride.

To improve safety, the 2022 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sport’s dual LED headlights with Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and Cornering Lights ensure consistent visibility and illuminate blind spots. A fuel tank of 24.5L is a perfect package for the long haul.

The 2021 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports is available in two variants - manual transmission and DCT. The former costs INR 15.96 lakh* whereas to buy the latter you would need to shell out INR 16.10 lakh*. Honda is offering the manual transmission variant of the ADV in Darkness Black Metallic colour option. The DCT model can be purchased in the Pearl Glare White paint scheme.

Powering the 2021 Africa Twin Adventure Sports is the same 1084cc parallel-twin engine which was used in the motorcycle’s previous model. However, Honda has slightly detuned the motor for the new bike. So, instead of 101 PS/105 Nm, the 2021 Africa Twin has 99 PS/103 Nm.

2021 Honda Africa Twin - What's new?

There are no major changes in the new Africa Twin. It continues to use the same 1084cc parallel-twin engine. However, for MY2021, Honda has reduced the power and torque output by a small margin. So, instead of 101 PS/105 Nm, the 2021 Africa Twin has 99 PS/103 Nm. Since the motorcycle was already BS6-compliant, we wonder, why did Honda make these changes.

Honda is also saying that the 2021 Africa Twin has been given new colour options. However, that’s not really the case. The company has just swapped the available paint schemes between the two variants. The 2020 Honda Africa Twin with the manual transmission was available in Pearl Glare White colour option whereas the Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) variant could be purchased in the Darkness Black Metallic livery. Now, it is just the opposite - manual transmission in Darkness Black Metallic and DCT in Pearl Glare White.

2021 Honda Africa Twin Price

The 2021 Africa Twin with manual transmission has been priced at INR 15.96 lakh* which makes it INR 61,000 costlier than the 2020 model that retailed at INR 15.35 lakh*. On the other hand, the 2020 DCT variant used to cost INR 16.10 lakh*, Honda is yet to announce the pricing of its 2021 model.

Honda launched the 2020 Africa Twin in our country in early March, days before the entire nation was put under lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus. While some form of normalcy has been restored, the lockdown period has inevitably affected the deliveries of the new 2020 Honda Africa Twin.

The previous model of the Honda Africa Twin was available in India only with Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). However, with the 2020 model, Honda introduced the Manual Transmission (MT) variant of the motorcycle in our country. As per the latest reports, the deliveries of the 2020 Africa Twin MT variant are expected to commence in July, next month. However, it is the DCT variant whose delivered are said to be delayed until at least January 2021. That’s a long waiting period, isn’t it?

Honda has added four new electronic aids in the Africa Twin:

The 2020 Africa Twin also features a new 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen display which is a welcoming addition. It allows you to play around with the bike’s electronics and supports Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay.

Honda has also tweaked the way the Africa Twin looks. Although it has the silhouette of the outgoing model, it looks much more athletic thanks to the slimmer yet larger (24.8-litre) fuel tank, narrower seat and rally-style bodywork. It also gets compact handguards and sump guard. The windscreen, unlike that of the old model, is 5-step adjustable and provides improved wind protection during high-speed riding.

We also have a new frame with aluminium sub-frame and a new and lighter aluminium swingarm. Overall, the all-new bike is around 5 kg lighter than the outgoing model and thus, has a 10% improved power-to-weight ratio which results in improved performance. Honda has also added tubeless tyres.

Also, considering the addition of all the new features, it is certain that the price of the 2020 Honda Africa Twin would be higher than that of the outgoing model, which retails at INR 13,50,000 (ex-showroom, PAN India).

The Indian arm of the Japanese two-wheeler brand offered the DCT variant of the Africa Twin CRF1000L (old model) in our market. However, the source report adds that the latest iteration of the adventure tourer, unveiled in September 2019, will be available in both – MT and DCT variants.

Regular followers would know that the 2020 Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L is made in two versions – standard and Adventure Sports. The standard version is more off-road focused, while the Adventure Sports is aimed to be a comfortable tourer. The 2020 Honda Africa Twin features a few tweaks to the chassis and uses a bolted aluminium sub-frame instead of a welded setup.

Both versions benefit from revised styling and feature upgrades that include full-LED lighting and an Apple CarPlay compatible, 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen display. The premium Adventure Sports version further benefits from features such as a tall windscreen, larger fuel tank (for even higher range), top-box and pannier mounts, wider sump guard and tubeless tyre compatible cross-spoke design.

The all-new model mounts a 1,084 cc engine instead of a 998 cc engine. The additional displacement was achieved by increasing the stroke by 5 mm. The Euro-V compliant parallel-twin, liquid-cooled new motor produces 101 PS of max power (7% improvement over the old model) and 105 Nm of peak torque (6% improvement over the old model).

The electronics package has also received an upgrade, and the 2020 Honda Africa Twin comes equipped with a new 6-axis IMU. Rider aids include 6 riding modes (Tour, Urban, Gravel, Off-road and two user modes) Ride by Wire, Honda Selectable Torque Control, cornering ABS, rear lift control, wheelie control. cruise control and emergency stop signals.

In India, the Japanese two-wheeler brand has started rolling out the BS-VI compliant products. The company launched its first BS-VI compliant motorcycle, the SP 125 in the Indian market in November 2019. Apart from introducing mass-segment products. It plans to expand its big bike portfolio and has announced that it will double its premium portfolio and produce superbikes in India.

The 2020 CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP, CRF1100L Africa Twin and the CB1000R will reach our market soon. All these premium models were unveiled at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. Honda already offers the CBR650R in India, and the CB650R is expected to arrive on our shores in early 2020.

Here’s what’s coming to India:

CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP

The 2020 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP draw inspiration from the RC213V MotoGP machine and its street-legal counterpart, the RC213V-S. The litre-class motorcycles use the most powerful inline four-cylinder engine that Honda has ever made. The company will offer both, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and the premium-spec CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP in the Indian market.

CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports

The 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports made debut well before the EICMA motorcycle show. The latest iteration of Honda’s flagship adventure tourer motorcycle packs a bigger engine that delivers more power and torque than the CFRF1000L. The Adventure Sports model is the premium version of the new CRF1100L Africa Twin range, and it is equipped with tubeless tyres compatible cross-spoke wheels, five-stage adjustable screen, three-stage cornering lights, and a 24.8-litre fuel tank.

CB1000R

The 2020 Honda CB1000R has received very few upgrades and the list of changes are far more subtle than the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade range. The subtle cosmetic changes on the flagship Neo Sports Café naked machine aim to further enhance its premium look. Mechanical upgrades bring more power (143.4 hp vs 123.3 hp) and torque (104 Nm vs 99 Nm) to the 2020 CB1000R.

The powertrain is now bigger as reports had said and displaces 1,084 cc, which has been made possible by increasing the stroke by 5 mm. The Euro 5 compliant twin-cylinder mill now produces 101 PS of power (7% increase) and 105 Nm of torque (6% increase). Holding the engine in its place is a new frame with aluminium sub-frame, bolted rather than welded to the main frame. Helping improve rear wheel traction is an all-new, lighter aluminium swingarm based on the same design as the CRF450R.

The instrument console is now a 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen display which is Apple CarPlay compatible. Besides that, the 2020 Honda Africa Twin features new striking rally-style bodywork, slimmer fuel tank and a 40mm narrower seat. The latter is adjustable between 850 mm or 870 mm. Also, the 2020 Honda Africa Twin is fitted with compact handguards and sump guard. The bike is 4 kg lighter than its predecessor. The 2020 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports has the same riding triangle as the standard variant. It gets a larger 24.8-litre fuel tank which takes the range to over 500 km! It gets a broader front fairing, 5-stage adjustable screen and standard-fit heated grips. Besides that, the Adventure Sports variant gets a new 3-stage cornering lights. Also on offer are optional Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment.

Colour options for the 2020 Honda Africa Twin include Grand Prix Red and Matte Ballistic Black Metallic. The Adventure Sports variant will be retailed in Pearl Glare White Tricolour and Darkness Black Metallic.

Aprilia GPR 250 unveiled in China

The Aprilia GPR 250 has been unveiled in China. The bike uses a 249.2 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine borrowed from the CFMoto 250NK. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine can produce 26.5 PS of power and 22 Nm of torque. Besides that, the Aprilia GPR 250 has a kerb weight of 150 kg! That’s surprisingly light for a 250 cc sports motorcycle.

Making this possible is a lightweight frame and aluminium swingarm. Suspension duties are taken care of by an upside-down fork up front and a monoshock rear. Brakes on the Aprilia GPR 250 include discs at both ends assisted by dual-channel ABS.

There has been no official announcement on an Indian launch of Aprilia GPR 250, however, Aprilia has been known to be interested in bringing motorcycles in the engine displacement range of 150 cc to 250 cc.

TVS Ntorq 125 Race Edition launched in India at INR 62,995

TVS has launched a new Race Edition of its popular sporty 125 cc scooter Ntorq 125. The scooter is retailed in new three-tone combination of matte black, metallic black and metallic red colour. Besides that, the TVS Ntorq 125 Race Edition gets a new LED headlamp and LED daytime running lights. The scooter also gets hazard lights which can be controlled by a red switch.

At the heart of the TVS Ntorq 125 is a 124.79 cc air-cooled, 3-valve mill. This engine can squeeze out 9.4 PS of power and 10.5 Nm of torque. Targeted towards GenZ customers, the TVS Ntorq continues to flaunt digital instrumentation with smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth. This allows the scooter to display call alerts and turn by turn navigation on the display.

The Race Edition is priced at a premium of nearly 3,000 over the standard disc brake variant. TVS has so far sold more than 4 lakh units of the Ntorq 125. The company has also introduced the Scooty Pep Plus in new colour options - Coral matte and Aqua matte.

Polarity Smart Bikes unveil 6 personal mobility vehicle prototypes

The Indian start-up Polarity Smart Bikes has took the electric vehicle route to unveil 6 pedal-assisted cycles. Starting at INR 38,000 (ex-showroom), these electric cycles will be retailed in two trims, namely Sport and Executive. The flagship Polarity S3K has a price tag of INR 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom) and boasts of an 80-volt battery. It has a 3 kW electric hub motor which can propel it to a top speed of 100 km/h!

All Polarity Smart Bikes have a claimed range of 80 km which is enough for an average, day to day, personal mobility vehicle. The bikes have a kerb weight of 55 kg and their batteries come with a 3-year warranty. Besides that, Polarity Smart Bikes can be charged for 1,000 times. The pedal-assisted electric cycles also boast LED headlamp, coloured digital instrumentation, GPS and Bluetooth connectivity.
Deliveries of Polarity Smart Bikes begin in the first quarter of 2020.

Bajaj Dominar, Pulsar and Avenger range get a price hike

Just ahead of the festive rush, Bajaj Auto has increased prices of several products. The flagship Bajaj Dominar 400 now has a price tag of INR 1.92 lakh which is a rise of INR 10,001. Despite this recent hike, the Bajaj Dominar 400 remains incredible value for money motorcycle. Where else will you get a 40 PS motorcycle with slipper clutch, upside-down fork, LED headlamp and radially mounted front calliper at less than INR 2 lakh?

The price rise in the Bajaj Pulsar and the Bajaj Avenger range isn’t too massive. The hike has been in the range of INR 998 to INR 1,696. Details on the price hike on Bajaj Pulsar and Bajaj Avenger can be found in the table above. However, the prices for the Bajaj Pulsar 125 Neon and Bajaj Pulsar 150 Neon has remained unchanged.

KTM 790 Duke Indian launch confirmed for 23 September 2019

It’s finally happening! The Austrian motorcycle maker KTM is launching the 790 Duke on 23 September 23 2019. This street naked motorcycle will compete against the Triumph Street Triple, Kawasaki Z900, Ducati Monster 821 and Yamaha MT-09. KTM has loaded the 790 Duke to the gills.

The KTM 790 is powered by a 799 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine produces 105 PS of power and 87 Nm of torque. The KTM 790 Duke offers four riding modes – Sport, Street, Rain and Track. Electronic rider aids include wheelie control, traction control (switchable), ABS (with Supermoto mode), cornering ABS and Motor Slip Regulation (MSR). Besides that, the KTM 790 Duke also gets a slipper clutch and a bi-directional quick shifter.

KTM’s latest and most powerful motorcycle in India will be its most expensive product yet with a price of around INR 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Honda releases new teaser for upcoming 2020 Honda Africa Twin

Japanese motorcycle maker Honda has released a new teaser video confirming that the 2020 Africa Twin will break cover on 23 September 2019. Like the outgoing model, it will be retailed in two variants (Standard and Adventure). Moving away from the old 998 cc mill, the Africa Twin will adopt a bigger 1,084 cc engine with the MY2020 update. This powerplant will produce 101 PS of power, up from 94 PS.

Several rumours suggest that the 2020 Honda Africa Twin will get direct injection which will help it reduce tailpipe emissions. Gearbox options will be a manual and a DCT unit. We expect only the latter to make its way to India. The wheels will be a 21-inch unit at the front and an 18-inch unit at the rear.

The 2020 Honda Africa Twin will get an LED headlamp, tall windscreen and possibly a new TFT instrumentation display. Other features will include riding modes and multi-level traction control.

The teaser video also shows two “Honda Africa Twin tags” (screenshot included in the image gallery), confirming two variants. Leaked photographs of the upcoming model have already revealed the two versions of the 2020 Africa Twin – Standard and Adventure. The more premium Adventure variant will pack features like a tall windscreen, larger fuel tank, top-box and pannier mounts, wider sump guard and cross-spoke design for the wheels (tubeless tyre compatible). The higher-spec variant will also receive have pair of lights under the primary illuminator that will most likely perform cornering lighting function.

The standard variant, on the other hand, will come with a shorter windscreen and miss features such as tubeless tyre compatible wheels and the top box and pannier mounts. It will also come with a relatively smaller tank than the Adventure variant. Both variants will benefit from full-LED lighting and a revised cockpit that will comprise a new TFT display. The chassis, sub-frame and the swingarm will also have undergone changes. Yet, the CRF1100L will carry the same wheelbase of 1,575 mm as the current CRF1000L.

Both variants will feature a bigger engine than the current model (CRF1000L). The Africa Twin CRF1100L will use a Euro-V compliant 1,084 cc engine, as against a 998 cc unit on the CRF1000L Euro-IV model. The maximum power output from the parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor will be 101 PS as against 94 PS on the current bike. The 2020 Africa Twin will be available with dual-clutch automatic or manual transmission options. The Indian market will most likely get the DCT version only.

Anchoring department will include dual petal-type discs at the front and a single rotor at the back. The electronics package on the 2020 model may be upgraded and we may see cornering ABS function on the new bike. Both, the standard and the Adventure variant will feature off-road biased setup for the wheels (21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel).

The 2020 Africa Twin CRF1100L, as mentioned above, will be unveiled to the world on Monday, 23 September.

The 2020 Honda Africa Twin will come equipped with a shorter windscreen, a relatively smaller sump guard and conventional wire-spoke wheels with tube tyres. The rear panel on the base variant will also be smaller than on the Adventure variant, thus revealing the sub-frame of the vehicle. The rear panel on the base model of the 2020 iteration will miss the pannier mounts. The saddle design, too, will be noticeably different on both the bikes; the base variant will feature a relatively flatter seat design.

The 2020 Honda Africa Twin Adventure, on the other hand, will come with extra equipment such as extra set of lights under the primary headlight (may perform adaptive cornering lamps functions), a taller windscreen, bigger fuel tank, wider sump guard, top-box and pannier mount and, most importantly, cross-spoke wheel design that will bring the convenience of tubeless tyres. The next-generation Triumph Tiger 800 XCa, too, will use a cross-spoke design, while the BMW F 850 GS already comes with the feature.

In terms of styling upgrade, both models will come with a sharper headlight on the front fascia. Both motorcycles will feature knuckle guards, although the unit on the Africa Twin Adventure will be bigger in size. The side panels and the tail section, too, will carry mild revisions.

More changes will take place under the bodywork, and the 2020 Africa Twin will use a new chassis. While the layout will be identical to the outgoing model, the new version of the adventure tourer will pack revised alloy castings near the swingarm pivot. The swingarm, too, will be noticeably different on the 2020 iteration of the Africa Twin. Moreover, the new subframe will be a bolt-on unit to ensure easier repairs in case of damage. Despite the changes to the underpinnings, the CRF1100L will have the same wheelbase (1,575 mm) as the CRF1000L.

The cockpit of the 2020 Africa Twin will be a horizontally mounted TFT display that will most likely come with features like Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation function. The 2020 duo, similar to the current model, will come with full-LED lighting (headlight, tail lamp and blinkers) as standard.

Leaked specifications have already confirmed that the upcoming new Africa Twin CRF1100L will pack a bigger engine than its predecessor. The upcoming version of the adventure tourer will use a Euro-V compliant 1,084 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine, as against a 998 cc on the outgoing model. The peak power output will stand at 101 PS versus 94 PS on the current bike. The motorcycles will come with a comprehensive electronics package that will comprise ride-by-wire with multiple riding modes, traction control and ABS among others.

The engine will be available with a manual transmission or a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The DCT-equipped model will be heavier. The more premium Africa Twin Adventure, with its relatively bigger fuel tank and extra equipment, will be heavier than the base variant.

The exhaust canister will be bigger than the current model to accommodate internal changes for the Euro-V norm compliance. Similar to the current model, the 2020 model will come equipped with long-travel upside-down front forks and a monoshock unit at the back to perform the shock absorption tasks. Hardware specifications may witness a few changes to the dimensions of the suspension (travel length) and the disc brakes (larger diameter).

Braking hardware will comprise, petal-type disc brakes at the front and a single, petal-type rotor at the back. The electronics package may include cornering ABS function on the 2020 Africa Twin, but we will wait for the official spec sheet before getting our hopes high. The off-road biased setup will continue to feature 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination. The setup will be the same for both models although, as mentioned above, the Africa Twin Adventure will come with tubeless-tyre compatible cross-spoke wheel design. The wheels will come wrapped with dual-purpose tyres.

The unveiling details are scarce now, but we may see the new Africa Twin CRF1100L in the coming weeks, along with the rest of the 2020 line-up.
