Honda Activa vs Honda Dio - Interesting Drag Race b/w 110cc Scooters https://indianautosblog.com/honda-activa-honda-dio-drag-race-p323879 Sat, 12 Jun 2021 09:30:21 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=323879 Honda Activa and Honda Dio are amongst the most popular 110cc scooters in the Indian market. They have their own unique USPs, however, the biggest common element between them is their engine that generates almost identical output figures in both the scooters. In terms of weight, the Activa is 107 kg whereas the Dio tips the scale at 105 kg. While such scooters are primarily used for daily commuting purposes, a couple of riders have brought them together for an interesting drag race.

The Honda Activa vs Honda Dio drag race video has been uploaded by YouTuber “Suraj Verma”. We can see in the footage that during the first drag race attempt that both scooters get off the mark almost at the same time, however, the Activa picks up the lead with the Dio right at its tail. As the race progresses, the Dio catches up and manages to overtake the Activa but couldn’t maintain the lead for too long. The Activa once again becomes the race leader and continues to be so till the end of the race. Both scooters were hovering in the 80-90 kmph range.

For the second drag race attempt, the riders switch their scooters to keep things fair and square. Once again, the Honda Activa pulls off quicker than the Dio. However, after a few seconds into the race, the Dio somehow closes the gap but couldn’t get past its 110cc sibling. As the race continues, the Activa gradually starts to pull away and comes out to be the winner again.

For reference, the 110cc engine of the Honda Activa puts out 5.73 kW or 7.79 PS of max power at 8000 rpm and 8.79 Nm of peak torque at 5250 rpm. In comparison, the same engine in the Honda Dio is tuned to produce 5.71 kW or 7.76 PS of max power at 8000 rpm and 9 Nm of peak torque at 4750 rpm.

Since then, the Japanese company has launched a plethora of new products and, thus, been successful in establishing itself in one of the world’s largest and most competitive two-wheeler markets.

Late last year, Honda celebrated the completion of two glorious decades of the Activa in India by launching the 20th-anniversary edition of the scooter. And now, the company has announced yet another achievement; Honda sales in North India has surpassed the 70 lakh milestone.

It took Honda 15 years to sell 35 lakh two-wheelers in North India (Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Chandigarh) since it forayed into the Indian market two decades ago. This means that the recent 35 lakh sales happened in the last 5 years - 3 times faster than before! This is indeed a commendable fact, isn’t it?

Over the years, Honda has shown its commitment towards North India in different ways. For example, the company’s first factory became operational in this region (Haryana) in 2001. With the increasing demand, the firm opened its second factory in Rajasthan. Honda also has three premium BigWing dealerships in North India - Jaipur, Ludhiana, and Gurugram - and is planning to open more such outlets soon.

Honda also has 11 Skill Enhancement Centres to empower the local youth with job-oriented technical skills. These centres are located in Gurgaon, Rohtak, Panipat, Baddi, Bhatinda, Jodhpur, Kota, Patiala, and Delhi. The company is also spreading road safety awareness through its 5 traffic-training parks (Jaipur, Ludhiana, Karnal, Delhi) and 1 Safety Driving Education Centre in Una, Himachal Pradesh.

Honda Dio Repsol Edition vs Regular Model - Comparison Video https://indianautosblog.com/honda-dio-repsol-edition-vs-regular-model-p322626 Thu, 18 Feb 2021 04:45:14 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=322626 The Honda Dio Repsol Edition was launched in the Indian market last year, along with the Repsol Edition of the Honda Hornet 2.0, to celebrate Honda’s 800 Grand Prix victories in MotoGP. The new scooter is inspired by the Honda RC 213V race machine and, thus, has a sporty feel to it. So, what are the differences between the Dio Repsol Edition and its regular model? Let’s find out in the comparison video below.

It is to be noted that the regular model of the Honda Dio is available in two variants - STD and DLX. For the comparison video, we have with us the STD variant of the scooter in Matte Axis Grey Metallic colour. The primary difference between the STD and DLX trim is that the latter comes with a fully-digital instrument cluster and alloy wheels. The Repsol Edition of the scooter is based on the DLX variant.

Also Read: Bajaj Pulsar NS160 Goes Neck and Neck w/ Hornet 2.0 in Long Drag Race

It can be seen in the video that Honda hasn’t made any changes to the overall design of the Dio Repsol Edition. It looks identical to the regular variant. The shape of the headlamp, large apron-mounted turn signals, rear cowl, exhaust; everything is the same. The only difference between the two models is their colour scheme.

The Honda Dio Repsol Edition flaunts its attractive livery. The eye-catching element is the bright orange paint which we can see at the front as well as on the alloy wheels. Some orange highlights are present on other body parts, too. We also have the ‘Repsol’ decals on the front apron, side fairing, and rear cowl. The red split pillion grab rail is also a nice touch. On the other hand, the regular variant of the Dio comes with a bunch of interesting colour options but they don’t seem to be as attractive as the Repsol Edition.

Apart from the cosmetic changes, there are no other differences between the Repsol Edition and the regular model of the Honda Dio. The suspension setup, braking system, wheels and tyres, all remain untouched. As for the engine, both the models draw power from a 109.51cc single-cylinder motor that comes with Honda’s Programmed Fuel-Injection (PGM-Fi) for better throttle response, performance and fuel efficiency. It produces 5.71 kW or 7.79 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and generates 9 Nm of peak torque at 4,750 rpm. The scooter also features Honda’s ESP technology and silent start with ACG.

Following is a variant-wise price table of the Honda Dio for your reference:

This was quite an achievement in itself. Today, the company has announced that its BS-VI scooter and bike sales have crossed 5.5 lakh units.

Honda Sp 125 First Ride Review Still Shots Left Si
The BS-VI Honda SP 125 was launched in November 2019 for a starting price of INR 72,900* (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Honda was one of the first two-wheeler manufacturers in India to start selling BS-VI compliant products much before the deadline. The latest additions to its BS-VI product line-up are BS-VI Honda CB Shine and BS-VI Honda Unicorn. This makes Honda the only two-wheeler manufacturer in India with a total of six BS-VI compliant models available in the market - Activa 125, SP 125, Activa 6G, Shine, Unicorn and Dio.

Honda’s first BS-VI two-wheeler was the Activa 125. It was launched in September 2019. It is available in three variants - Standard, Alloy, and Deluxe - and four colour options - Pearl Precious White, Heavy Grey Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic and Rebel Red Metallic. The BS-VI Honda SP 125 was launched in November 2019 for a starting price of INR 72,900*. It is offered in two variants - Drum and Disc - and four colour options - Matte Axis Grey Metallic, Striking Green, Imperial Red Metallic and Pearl Siren Blue. Honda provides a 3-year warranty with the new SP 125.

The BS-VI Honda Activa 6G was brought into the market earlier this year and replaced the Activa 5G. It retails at INR 63,912*. It has 6 colour options - Glitter Blue Metallic, Pearl Spartan Red, Metallic Axis Grey Metallic, Black, Dazzle Yellow Metallic and Pearl Precious White. Launched in February 2020, the BS-VI Honda Dio comes at a starting price of INR 59,990* which makes it around INR 5,000 more expensive than its BS-IV counterpart. The 2020 Honda Dio is available in four colour options - Mat Axis Grey Metallic, Candy Jazzy Blue, Sports Red & Vibrant Orange.

The last Honda scooter that underwent BS-IV to BS-VI conversion was the Dio. The BS-VI 2020 Honda Dio was launched in February 2020. Now, the Japanese company has released its TVC.

The Honda Dio has always been one of the most dynamic-looking scooters available in the country. In its BS-VI avatar, it continues being that. In fact, it has become even better than before. BS-VI Honda two-wheeler sales cross 3 lakh units https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-honda-two-wheeler-sales-cross-3-lakh-units-p319897 Wed, 26 Feb 2020 13:49:14 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319897 Honda was one of the first two-wheeler manufacturers in India to start selling BS-VI-compliant products much before the deadline. This is one of the reasons why it has now sold over 3 lakh BS-VI two-wheelers in the country.

Honda Activa 6g Review Images Action Shot 2
The Honda Activa continues to have the same 109 cc engine as before, but in a cleaner, BS-VI version.

Commenting on achieving this milestone, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd, said, “Honda was the first two-wheeler manufacturer to lead the BS-VI transition almost 6 months ahead of the deadline. Over 3 lakh customers are now experiencing a quiet revolution led by Honda’s advanced technologies like eSP, many first-in-segment features like ACG starter motor and significant mileage-up."

It was in September 2019 when Honda launched its first BS-VI two-wheeler in India, the new Activa 125. Powered by a new greener and cleaner 124 cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine, this scooter marked the beginning of the BS-IV to BS-VI conversion for the Japanese firm. With the BS-VI Activa 125, Honda introduced its new ACG silent start system and also started integrating its Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-Fi) technology and doing away with carburettors.

Soon after launching the BS-VI Activa 125, Honda was up and ready with its next BS-VI compliant two-wheeler, the new SP 125. The company launched it in two variants - drum and disc - and claimed that it was 16% more fuel-efficient than the BS-IV version.

The Japanese manufacturer also claims that it has completed the transition to 100 per cent BS-VI production. The new emission norms are set to be implemented across the country on 1 April 2020.

BS-VI Honda Dio vs. BS-IV Honda Dio - Old vs. New https://indianautosblog.com/bs-vi-honda-dio-vs-bs-iv-honda-dio-old-vs-new-p319776 Wed, 12 Feb 2020 11:55:53 +0000 https://indianautosblog.com/?p=319776 Honda 2Wheelers India began its scooters innings in India with the Activa in 2001. The company further fortified its position in the market with the Dio in 2002, marketing it as a ‘moto-scooter’ which was targeted at a younger audience. The Japanese two-wheeler maker introduced several interesting changes to the Honda Dio in May 2018, including features like an LED headlamp and digital instrumentation. However, the scooter finally gets the latest fad (okay not so latest, after all, Honda did join the bandwagon late). Read on for the BS6 Honda Dio vs BS4 Honda Dio below.

Bs Vi Honda Dio Vs Bs Iv Dio Cover
The BS-VI Honda Dio looks sportier than the outgoing, BS-IV version.

The Dio holds special prominence for Honda. The scooter not just amasses 30,000 to 40,000 units a month for the company (however, it did fall to around 20,000 units in December 2019), but is also a major revenue generator on the exports front.

Honda exports the Dio to 11 South Asian & Latin American nations including the likes of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mexico, and Colombia. In fact, the Dio has been India’s most exported scooter for several years now. In early 2019, it had a 44% share in scooter exports. Since then, exports volumes have fallen sharply, but that’s a tale for another day.

Lets’ find out how the new Dio is different from the old Dio in this comparison between the BS-VI Honda Dio vs. BS-IV Honda Dio.

BS-VI Honda Dio vs. BS-IV Honda Dio: Design

Staying true to its family values, Honda has stuck to its tried and tested design philosophy of the Dio which it had introduced during the scooter’s BS-IV transformation in March 2017.

The new, BS-VI Dio carries over the old model's dual-tone colour theme. However, the company has made the overall design sportier. The front apron gets a new mid-mounted DC LED headlamp, while the handle mounted daytime running light takes a new shape. This will prevent the light from dimming at slow engine speeds, making late-night riding safer. Also, the front apron has a cleaner design and the pseudo-air-vents have been raised near the headlamp.

Honda has introduced a nifty pocket near the key slot which will allow riders to easily store coins, pens (since students are the target audience), keys, and other knick-knacks. The profile includes a much cleaner look with a thicker seat area for the pillion. Besides that, the new exhaust canister has an edgier design.

Specifications BS-VI Honda Dio BS-IV Honda Dio
LxWxH (in mm) 1,808 x 723 x 1,150 1,781 x 710 x 1,133
Wheelbase 1,260 mm 1,238 mm
Ground clearance 160 mm 158 mm
Seat height 650 mm 765 mm
Kerb Weight 107 kg 104 kg
Fuel tank capacity 5.3 litre 5.3 litre

The automatic scooter is now bigger, taller, and wider than the outgoing version, yet the new Dio has managed to have a seat height of just 650 mm. That’s a reduction of 115 mm in the Honda Dio seat height. The BS-VI Honda Dio has a ground clearance of 160 mm. Engineers at Honda have also increased the Dio’s wheelbase by 22 mm to 1,260 mm for a more stable ride.

With the move to BS-VI two-wheeler makers have also had to deal with extra weight due to the increased weight of a larger catalytic convertor. While the SP 125 actually saw a lighter kerb weight, the same has not been the case for Honda’s scooters. In this case, the Honda Dio weight in kg has increased by 3 kg to 107. However, that is unlikely going to be felt during everyday riding.

Bs Vi Honda Dio Vs Bs Iv Dio Front Three Quarter L
Unlike on the old Honda Dio, the LED headlamp is a DC unit.

Continuing with the design offence, Honda has also introduced a new split grab rail in the BS-VI Dio. Also, unlike the Activa 6G, which ditched its semi-digital display for a completely analogue unit, the new Dio remains all-digital. However, the display in the new Dio has a white backlight and bears a crisper look than the smaller blue backlit unit in the outgoing version. Also, the three-step eco speed indicator has been retained.

Thanks to the introduction of fuel injection and on-board diagnostics as a part of the regulatory norms, the scooter now displays the distance to empty, real-time fuel consumption, and average fuel consumption.

However, the standard trim of the Honda Dio will be retailed with a halogen bulb, analogue display and will also miss out on golden alloy wheels.

BS-VI Honda Dio vs. BS-IV Honda Dio: Engine

Bs Vi Honda Dio Vs Bs Iv Dio Front Three Quarter R
The Honda Dio gets new colour and new decals with the BS-VI upgrade.

The BS-VI Honda Dio is powered by the same 109.51 cc air-cooled HET mill. This time around it uses fuel injection to supply fuel and air mixture to the inlet valve instead of the age-old carburettor. The Honda Dio in BS-VI tune boasts eSP (Enhanced Smart Power), which Honda claims not only increases mileage but also reduces friction.

Specifications BS-VI Honda Dio BS-IV Honda Dio
Engine displacement 109.51 cc 109.19 cc
Max power 7.76 PS 7.92 PS
Peak torque 9 Nm 8.91 Nm
Compression ratio 10.0:0.2 9.5:1

Interestingly, though, while Honda has gone gaga about the increased mileage for the rest of the BS-VI lineup, it has been quiet about the rise in BS-VI Honda Dio. We, however, expect it to be in the same as that of the Activa 6G which underwent an increase in mileage by 10%.

The engine in BS-VI tune produces 7.76 PS of power and 9 Nm of torque. Just like the engine of the Activa 6G, the new Dio’s engine has an increased compression of 10.0:0.2 (up from 9.5:1). The BS-IV Dio’s engine output figures stood at 7.92 PS of power and 8.91 PS of torque.

The scooter comes with a three-step adjustable rear suspension.

Honda claims that the new BS-VI Honda Dio has a new telescopic fork suspension. The rear too gets a three-way adjustable suspension, a feature first introduced in the Activa 125, followed by Activa 6G. Brakes continue to remain 130 mm drum at both ends. However, we would have loved to see a front disc brake at least in the drum brake variant.

However, continuing with the trend, like the Activa 6G, the BS-VI Honda Dio gets a larger 12-inch front wheel. Sadly, though, even the Dio is offered only with steel wheels.

BS-VI Honda Dio vs. BS-IV Honda Dio: Features

Bs Vi Honda Dio Vs Bs Iv Dio Rear Three Quarter Ri
The overall sportier theme continues into the exhaust muffler.

The BS-VI Dio comes with an external fuel lid which can be controlled with a 5-in-1 seat opening switch. This adds convenience to the rider as he or she will no longer have to get off the scooter and open the boot for refuelling.

In the past, Honda has been critiqued several times, by customers and pundits alike, for not offering an engine kill switch in its domestic motorcycle portfolio. While that still holds true for several of its present-day motorcycles, the same cannot be said about its automatic scooter range. The Honda Dio is now fitted with an engine start and stop switch. Besides that, the scooter gets retractable pillion footrests and side stand engine cut off. The latter simply switches off the engine when the side stand is engaged.

The Japanese two-wheeler maker also offers the new Dio with a silent start system (ACG starter).

The other two options include Matte Axis Grey Metallic and Dazzle Yellow Metallic. Its outgoing BS-IV version in deluxe variant was offered in Pearl Igneous Black and Matte Marshal Green Metallic.

In comparison, the Sports Yellow shade has been dropped from the range. The standard variant of BS-VI Honda Dio will be offered in Matte Axis Grey Metallic, Candy Jazzy Blue, Sports Red, and Vibrant Orange.

BS-VI Honda Dio vs. BS-IV Honda Dio: Price

The standard variant of the Dio gets a hike of INR 5,749, while the deluxe variant has become dearer by INR 7,099.

The standard variant of the BS-VI Honda Dio is priced at INR 59,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which marks a hike of INR 5,749. In comparison, the BS-VI deluxe variant is priced at INR 63,340 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which INR 7,099 higher than the BS-IV deluxe variant's price.

That completes our comparison between the BS-VI Honda Dio vs. BS-IV Honda Dio. Stay tuned to IndianAutosBlog.com for more such featured stories.
